Travellers from Kosovo, Ukraine and North Macedonia, who so far were permitted to enter Norway under specific purposes of entry, as visiting a boyfriend/girlfriend in this country, are no longer permitted to do so, the Norwegian authorities have announced.

The decision has been revealed on Friday, August 13, and will become effective on Monday, August 16. This means that starting from next week, the following categories of travellers who so far were permitted to enter Norway from Kosovo, Ukraine and North Macedonia can no longer do so:

  • adult children and stepchildren of Norwegian citizens
  • parents and stepparents of adult children/stepchildren of Norwegian citizens
  • grandparents & stepparents of Norwegian citizens
  • grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Norwegian citizens
  • boyfriends and girlfriends of Norwegian citizens – the relationship must have lasted for a minimum of nine months, and the parties must have met each other physically before

The decision has been taken after an increase in the number of Coronavirus infections detected recently in the territory of all these three third-countries SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

According to data unfolded by the World Health Organization, in the last 24 hours, Kosovo, which has a population of 1.873 million, has recorded a total of 1009 cases. Ukraine, which has a total of 44.39 million residents, has recorded 1,263 cases, and North Macedonia, home to 2.077 million residents, has marked 639 new COVID-19 infections.

Due to the increase in the number of cases, Finland has also decided to reintroduce the entry ban on travellers from Kosovo and North Macedonia, starting from Monday, August 16.

The Norwegian government has also introduced more entry restrictions on several EU countries, including Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Austria, arrivals from which countries will be subject to entry quarantine upon arrival after all four were placed from green to the orange category.

At the same time, quarantine requirement is introduced for five new regions in Sweden – Jämtland, Södermanland, Uppsala (these go from green to orange), Västerbotten and Västmanland, as well as for two regions in Finland – Southern Ostrobothnia SVD and Vaasa SVD.

Arrivals from the Netherlands, on the other hand, will no longer sublet to the requirement of quarantine hotels upon entry, as the country has been moved from the dark red to the red category. Travellers from this country can now self-isolate in private accommodations.
