The special ceremony included a CBP Honor Guard presenting the colors, the raising of the U.S. flag and lowering to half-staff followed by the singing of the National Anthem by a CBP Assistant Port Director.  A moment of radio silence was observed at 7:46 a.m., the exact moment Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade Center North Tower.  An Air and Marine Operations, Del Rio Branch helicopter conducted a flyover and hovered over the various law enforcement units and first responders standing in formation.  A bugler played taps and the CBP Honor Guard conducted a flag fold to the tune of Amazing Grace.

“9/11 is a day we will always remember, it was the worst day the American people have seen, but it was a day Americans united as one,” said Port Director Liliana Flores, Del Rio Port of Entry.  “On this day, 20 years after the tragic events, we mourn those that lost their lives and the brave men and women that gave their lives saving others.  May we never forget.”

In attendance were representatives from the Del Rio Port of Entry, U.S. Border Patrol, Air and Marine Operations, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Park Service, Del Rio Police Department, Del Rio Fire Department, Val Verde Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Val Verde Regional Medical Center EMS, U.S. Consul General and City of Del Rio.

The CBP employees from the Del Rio Port of Entry would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the men and women of law enforcement and first responders for attending the 20th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ceremony.  Their presence is a true representation of the brave men and women protecting our community.
