The United States Government’s recent decision to reopen its doors to all vaccinated travellers from the 26 Schengen Area countries as well as those from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, India, South Africa and China have been welcomed by the governments, organizations as well as airlines.
The same has asserted that this is an essential step to help the economic sector recover from the damages caused by the Coronavirus, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
For over a year now, authorities in the countries mentioned above have urged the US administration to put an end to the Presidential Proclamations regarding the Suspension of Entry for travellers from the territories mentioned above. The US government, however, had not taken any concrete decision in this regard until September 20.
The White House coronavirus response coordinator, Jeffrey Zients, told reporters that he expects that travellers who have been fully immunized against the virus wishing to enter the United States territory from European countries would be permitted to do so from “early November”.
“International travel is critical to connecting families and friends, to fueling small and large businesses, to promoting the open exchange of ideas and culture. That’s why, with science and public health as our guide, we have developed a new international air travel system that both enhances the safety of Americans here at home and enhances the safety of international air travel,” Zients pointed out in this regard.
Soon after the US authorities announced such a decision, airlines in the UK registered an increase in the stock prices during this week.
International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) shares increased to 19 per cent following the US announcement regarding abolishing the entry bans imposed on arrivals from many other countries.
Shares in Lufthansa and Air France-KLM marked about a seven per cent increase, according to the local reports.
As for the United States, it was also recorded a notable increase in share prices in airlines such as Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines.
Regarding the lifting of entry bans for travellers vaccinated against the virus, Jeffrey Zients also told reporters that “we know vaccines are effective, including against the delta variant, and vaccines are the best line of defense against Covid, so this vaccination requirement deploys the best tool we have in our arsenal to keep people safe and prevent the spread of the virus.”
Based on the figures provided previously by the industry trade group Airlines for America, international air travel marked a total of 43 per cent decrease compared to the pre-pandemic figures.
Recently, SchengenVisaInfo.com reported that the largest German airline, Lufthansa, announced that flight bookings increased by 40 per cent, soon after the US’ government stressed that it would remove entry ban imposed on other countries, including Schengen Area countries.
