The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published the weekly update of the travel guides, removing Bosnia and Herzegovina and Moldova from the list of safe areas after the EU Council dropped both countries from the EU’s list of epidemiologically safe third countries.
According to the MFA, both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Moldova have recorded an increasing number of cases in recent days, due to which they have been moved from Denmark’s green list to the orange one.
“Unnecessary travel to these countries is discouraged due to a high risk of infection. It is noted that the recommendation does not in principle apply to fully vaccinated and previously infected people, who, however, should check prior to departure what entry restrictions are in place at the destination,” the Ministry notes in a press release.
Travellers reaching Denmark from countries and regions in the orange category, who haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19 yet, and haven’t been infected with the virus in the last six months either, are subject to the requirement of a pre-entry test, a second test after entry, as well as obliged to self-isolate for ten days.

At the same time, the MFA has included several regions of EU countries in the green list, which means that vaccinated travellers and those who have recovered from COVID-19 reaching Denmark from these countries can enter completely restriction-free:
- France: Normandy
- Italy: Liguria, Sardinia
- Norway: Rogaland and Vestland
- Spain: Galicia, Navarre, La Rioja, Castilla y León, Extremadura
- Switzerland: Ticino
The new categorization of countries has become effective on Saturday afternoon, September 25.
The EU Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has said on Thursday that it is now safer to travel to Denmark, as the country has gone green in the weekly maps of ECDC published in support of a recommendation of the EU Commission towards the revival of freedom of travel within the block.
The change in colour means that Denmark has registered less than 50 COVID-19 infection cases per 100,000 inhabitants and has had a test positivity rate of less than four per cent during the last two weeks.
The country is also among the very few EU countries currently green on this map, mainly thanks to its vaccination campaign, through which the majority of the Danish adults have been already fully vaccinated.
Data by the ECDC also show that 89.8 per cent of the adult Danish population have received at least the first shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 88.1 per cent of the adult population are now fully vaccinated, which is higher than the EU/EEA average.
The country had recorded 341 new cases in the last 24 hours and four deaths, bringing the number of cases recorded since January 2020 to 353,744, show data revealed by the World Health Organization.
