Tribune Web Desk
Chandigarh, July 27

Tamil actor Vijayalakshmi, famous for films such as 'Friends' and 'Boss Engira Baskaran', allegedly attempted suicide on Sunday alleging harassment by the supporters of Naam Thamizhar party leader Seeman and Panankattu Padai's Hari Nadar.

Admitted to a Chennai hospital, Vijayalakshmi had recently hit the headlines for launching a tirade against the alleged bullying and torture by Seeman, an actor-turned-politician, and his party.

Before her alleged suicide attempt, the actress uploaded a video on social media in which she is purportedly heard saying that she was "under tremendous stress following torture by Seeman and his party activists for the past four months.

She alleges in the video about the recent humiliation in the media by Hari Nadar, attributing her survival over the period to the support she got from her mother and sister.

Assault video viral, cop sent to Police Lines - The Tribune India

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 10:47 PM PDT

Zirakpur, July 26

A traffic cop posted at the Baltana beat box was sent to the Police Lines after a video of him holding money and assaulting a truck driver near the highway went viral on the social media here today.

The cop, Mahinder Singh, is seen counting currency notes and putting them in his pocket. The truck driver, along with his helper, is seen arguing with the cop, claiming that he had all the requisite papers and his documents be returned after verification. The cop replies that they need to be further checked by a senior officer. The arguments turn violent as the cop thrashed him with a stick twice and threatened him.

The truck driver alleged that his business had suffered due to the lockdown and the cops here had made accepting bribe a routine affair. No written or verbal complaint was made in this regard at the Baltana police post. It is learnt that the video was made on July 24 near the K-Area light point on the Panchkula road.

Friction is the bane of retailers and filling out shipping and payment information on a mobile phone is surely the least enjoyable part of shopping.

In early March, a report predicted mobile shopping would count for 25 percent of all e-commerce traffic coming from apps in 2020. Since then, online sales have only accelerated due to the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, a recent report found companies have increased investments in e-commerce upgrades, including social media and social commerce, in preparation for the holiday season.

More from WWD

Today, Nate, a free app that uses AI to enable checkout at any retailer, launches with the goal of making mobile checkouts a completely seamless process. Users are able to purchase items for themselves, or others, by tapping "share" then selecting Nate on a mobile device. Shipping and payment details are saved for easy reordering.

Nate's gifting feature allows users to buy any item by inputting the recipient's phone number. If the recipient is not a Nate user, a text message will inform the recipient that they have a gift on hold and prompt a request for a preferred delivery address.

Moreover, the app aims to preserve the human experience as shifts toward online shopping continue. Designed with AI technology and a "desire to power social connections through shared inspiration," Nate gives users the ability to save products to curate in-app lists that can be shared across social platforms and channels of communication. The feature allows viewers to buy or save items to their own lists for a shared shopping experience.

"All the companies trying to reduce friction from the purchase experience are building products for companies, selling higher conversion," said Albert Saniger, founder of Nate. "Nobody is focused on people. People don't want another checkout method. They want a single, universal solution for all purchases. They want to be inspired by other humans, not by machines. I am certainly one of them. Tired of companies reordering my social feeds or serving me 'relevant' ads. I couldn't care less about what an algorithm thinks I should buy. I want to be inspired by other humans, not machines. And I want to stay inspired. And not worry about the checkout."

The Nate app is available nationwide and will be accessible by waitlist only in its initial phase.

Premier League: Aston Villa Stays Up; United and Chelsea Return to Champions League - The New York Times

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 10:08 PM PDT

LEICESTER, England — Those final few minutes, the ones upon which an entire season rests, do something strange to time. The clock seems to slow, each second clawing and scratching for its moment before it yields to the next. But each is so pregnant with meaning, or with the possibility of meaning, that even in these moments that last an age, it can be hard to keep up.

Leicester City is losing at home to Manchester United, and Chelsea is winning at home to Wolves. United and Chelsea will make the Champions League. Unless Leicester can make something of this free kick: The goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, has gone up.

Aston Villa has scored at West Ham. That should be enough to ensure its survival: There are only four minutes left. Bournemouth is ahead at Everton, and Watford is threatening a comeback at Arsenal, but as things stand, both would be relegated. In the time it takes a screen to refresh, though, West Ham scores to draw level. It is back on the knife's edge. Another goal and Villa might yet fall.

This was the final day as the Premier League would have wanted it, the final day that the Premier League, not so long ago — not so long as it feels, in this year in which every day has somehow felt like a lifetime and yet every week has passed in the blink of an eye — worried it might never have, as its clubs bickered and squabbled and the coronavirus pandemic threatened to claim the season itself.

The title, long since claimed by Liverpool, might not have been in play on Sunday, but almost everything else was. Six of the 10 games on the pandemic-delayed schedule's final day had something tangible at stake, something beyond league position or personal pride or a lingering sense of optimism ahead of the new season, hovering close on the horizon: a place in the Champions League, a slot in the Europa League, survival.

That jeopardy remained almost to the last moment. United scored deep into injury time to confirm its victory at Leicester and the return to the Champions League that the club hopes might act as a springboard to help close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City. Villa's struggle lasted until the final whistle against West Ham; only then were Bournemouth's hopes extinguished, and its relegation confirmed. Watford followed them down a few minutes later.

The season that started 352 days ago, with Liverpool's dismissal of Norwich on a balmy August night in a very different world, retained its intrigue until its final whistle. That, the Premier League would say, is why it had to play on, why it could not declare the season over in March, why it did not want to decide its outcome on paper. The most compelling league in the world, after all, deserved a conclusion.

There can be no question that the Premier League — like the Bundesliga, the competition that showed everyone else the way, and the other leagues across Europe that followed in its footsteps — deserves credit for finding a way through, for playing to completion in the age of the pandemic.

In that long, frightening spring, as executives and observers alike debated the morality of doing so in the face of daily death tolls touching the thousands, there were times when it felt a distant prospect.

It has gone, though, relatively smoothly. The clusters of positive tests that many feared have not materialized. There was no need for neutral venues. The players have handled the compressed workload impressively well. The standard has not dropped, and nor has the drama.

That it has all been played out in stadiums stripped bare of fans has given games an eerie, alien air, and demonstrated how much of soccer's spectacle is dependent on packed houses, but it has not deprived the games of meaning. This has not, as once appeared a threat, been a season of asterisks.

There has been little sense that the players are going through the motions: the suffering of Leicester players in the stands at the King Power Stadium on Sunday was no less real than the joy of Liverpool's players in lifting the Premier League trophy on Wednesday night.

Players do play for the fans, of course, for the faintly mystic institution of the "club," the one that lives in collective memory and in myth accumulated over time. But they also, at heart, play for themselves: for their ambitions, for their pride, for their win bonuses, for their new contracts, for their sense of worth. They have imbued this strange and quiet mini-season, this delayed denouement, with their own purpose.

But for all that the 2019-20 Premier League season will always stand out — the season of the pandemic, of empty stadiums and games in July — it is worth pausing to ask quite what has made it memorable, aside from the circumstances of its climax.

Perhaps it was the introduction of the video assistant referee system, tortured and then decisive: Aston Villa might have been relegated, and Bournemouth survived, had it not been for a technological error on June 17, the day the league returned, when V.A.R. failed to spot a Sheffield United goal at Villa Park.

There was certainly Liverpool's relentless march toward its first championship in three decades; possibly the end of one era at Tottenham Hotspur and the start of a new one at Arsenal; maybe the final sight of David Silva, one of the finest imports ever to grace the league, on English soil.

That apart, though, it has all ended as might have been predicted. The insurgencies from Sheffield United, Wolves and Leicester all, ultimately, fell flat: Leicester managing to go from mounting a title challenge to missing out on the top four; Wolves and Sheffield United missing out on Europe altogether.

The top four teams are the four richest in England. Even Tottenham, which fired a coach and spent much of the season in crisis, managed to finish sixth. Might, as always with the Premier League, has served to make right.

All that drama on the final day, those long minutes and those nails chewed to the quick and those glances at the table as it stands, wondering what might come next, and here we are again, with everyone — a couple of notable exceptions, in the form of Sheffield United and Burnley, aside — in their rightful place, as ordained by their financial firepower.

It took 352 days. The Premier League rode out a pandemic, waited until the final whistle. And then, after all of that, everything was just as it always is. The season that nobody could have foreseen ended just as you would have predicted.

Actress Spencer Grammer injured after trying to break up altercation, NYPD police source says - CNN

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:48 PM PDT

Grammer, 36, and a 31-year-old male were jointly trying to break up an argument between an unidentified man and other customers at a restaurant in the city's East Village on Friday night, the police source said.
The actress, who is the daughter of actor Kelsey Grammer and voice of Summer on the animated show "Rick and Morty," was slashed in her right arm and the male victim suffered a slash injury to the right side of his lower back.
Neither injuries were considered to be life-threatening, the source said.
Both Grammer and the male victim were taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment. No arrests have yet been made in the investigation and it was unknown whether Grammer and the injured male knew each other.
CNN has reached out to Spencer Grammer's agents for comment.
The New York Police Department posted a video on Twitter that shows the man they are seeking in connection with this incident.
The police source confirmed the man in the video is connected to the assault on Grammer and the unidentified male.

Oscar-winning actress Olivia de Havilland dies aged 104 - DW (English)

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:48 PM PDT

The two-time Oscar winner, best known for a supporting role in "Gone with the Wind," has died. During a career that spanned six decades, the actress starred in a series of dramas, Westerns and period pieces.

Oscar-winning actress Olivia de Havilland died Sunday peacefully of natural causes at her Paris home, according to her New York-based publicist Lisa Goldberg. She was 104.

During a career that spanned six decades, de Havilland starred in a series of dramas, Westerns and period pieces, most notably as  the self-sacrificing Melanie Wilkes in the film "Gone with the Wind" and  Maid Marian in "The Adventures of Robin Hood."

De Havilland often portrayed beautiful, sweet and romantic female characters. She won an Oscar for best actress in the 1947 melodrama "To Each his Own" about out-of-wedlock birth and, three years later, for her leading role in the romantic film "The Heiress."

De Havilland was the last surviving star from "Gone with the Wind," an irony, she once said, as Melanie Wilkes was the only major character to die in the film.

Based on Margaret Mitchell's best-selling Civil War novel and directed by Victor Fleming, "Gone with the Wind" won 10 Academy Awards. The movie has since been heavily criticized for its glorified and sanitized portrait of slavery, with activists calling for the film's ban for its racist content.

In 2008, de Havilland received a National Medal of Arts and was awarded France's Legion of Honor two years later.

'De Havilland law'

De Havilland had lived in Paris since the early 1950s, according to her publicist.

The actress was born in Tokyo, Japan on July 1, 1916. Her mother was a stage actress and her father was an English professor in a Tokyo university at the time.

De Havilland also initially dreamt of becoming a stage actress. "I wanted to be a stage actress,'' she recalled, but "life sort of made the decision for me.'' De Havilland's sister was actress Joan Fontaine.

De Havilland had desired to act in more challenging roles. In 1943, she sued Warner Bros. when the studio tried to keep her under contract even after it had expired. Warner Bros. claimed the actress owed six more months because she had been suspended for refusing roles.

Following De Havilland's fight, the California Court of Appeals ruled that no studio could extend an agreement without the performer's consent. The ruling is still unofficially called the "De Havilland law."

American flag lowered as US consulate in Chengdu prepares to shut in retaliation for Houston closure - CNN

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:08 PM PDT

Large crowds that had gathered outside the building over the weekend were moved back, as a heavy police presence surrounded the consulate, which Beijing ordered to shut on Friday in a tit-for-tat move.
Last week, the US government abruptly ordered the closure of China's consulate in Houston, Texas, claiming the base had been involved in a larger Chinese espionage effort using diplomatic facilities around the US.
Over the weekend, hundreds of people gathered outside the US consulate in southwestern city of 16.5 million people, taking selfies and waving Chinese flags. On Saturday, the US insignia was taken down while on Sunday removal work began on a plaque outside the embassy, which is now effectively not operational.

The Chinese government had given the Americans the same timeframe of 72 hours to close their Chengdu mission as Beijing had been afforded in Houston, with the Chinese Foreign Ministry saying in a statement that the US had "seriously violated international law and the basic norms of international relations."
"The current situation between China and the United States is something China does not want to see, and the responsibility rests entirely with the United States," the foreign ministry said in the statement.
Last Tuesday, Washington told China to "cease all operations and events" at its Houston facility, which the Chinese Foreign Ministry called an "unprecedented escalation" of ongoing tensions between the two countries.
As the deadline to close the Chinese diplomatic mission expired on Friday, US federal agents entered the compound of the Chinese consulate in Houston in black SUVs and white vans.
Relations between the US and China have rapidly deteriorated in the past two weeks, amid the reciprocal consulate closures and the guilty plea of a Singaporean national who admitted to spying for Beijing.

Speaking at the Nixon Library in California on Thursday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blasted what he said were decades of failed policy toward China.
"As President Trump has made very clear, we need a strategy that protects the American economy and indeed our way of life. The free world must triumph over this new tyranny," Pompeo said.
"The truth is that our policies -- and those of other free nations -- resurrected China's failing economy, only to see Beijing bite the international hands that were feeding it. We opened our arms to Chinese citizens, only to see the Chinese Communist Party exploit our free and open society."

Actress Spencer Grammer slashed outside Manhattan restaurant - ABC News

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 07:48 PM PDT

Actress Spencer Grammer says she was trying to calm an agitated man when he slashed her in the arm and stabbed her friend in the back Friday outside a New York City restaurant

NEW YORK -- Actress Spencer Grammer says she was trying to calm an agitated man when he slashed her in the arm and stabbed her friend in the back Friday outside a New York City restaurant.

Grammer, 36, told US Weekly that she and her friend "did what anyone else would do in the same situation" and were "attempting to prevent the altercation from escalating" when they were attacked.

Grammer and her 32-year-old friend were eating at an outside table at The Black Ant in Manhattan's East Village neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. Friday when the man ambled up and demanded to be served as the restaurant was closing down.

Grammer and her friend were hurt as they "attempted to break up a dispute between the unidentified male and other patrons at the location," police said.

The man ranaway after wounding Grammer in the right arm and her friend in the lower back with an unknown sharp object, police said. No arrests have been made.

Grammer, who provides the voice of Summer on "Rick and Morty" and previously starred on the ABC Family series "Greek," is the daughter of "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer and actress Doreen Alderman.

Grammer said she and her friend both expect to recover quickly. Neither suffered serious internal injuries, she said.

In her statement to Us Weekly, Grammer thanked the first responders and Bellevue Hospital staff that treated them and noted the "incredible battle" those workers have fought against the coronavirus pandemic.

"It was very moving for us to have the opportunity to thank them in person," Grammer said.

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 07:48 PM PDT

Naya Rivera's sister is speaking out after the actress' death at Lake Piru in southern California earlier this month.

Rivera, 33, took her 4-year-old son Josey to the lake on July 8, when she is presumed to have drowned after swimming in the water and helping Josey re-board the boat.

Her body was found on July 13 and her identity was confirmed by a medical examiner the following day.

As tributes from Rivera's former co-stars, friends and family have poured in, her sister Nickayla has now broken her social media silence regarding the devastating loss.

The 25-year-old model shared a black-and-white throwback photo of herself planting a kiss on her older sister's cheek as she wears a wide grin.

"Sister, ⁣⁣There are no words to describe my love for you," began Nickayla. "Side by side or miles apart, our connection is infinite. Our bond is unbreakable. We were complete opposites, yet simultaneously the same. The yin to my yang."

It appears that the "Sorry" singer was close with her younger sister, as she appeared on the model's Instagram several times.

RYAN DORSEY BREAKS SILENCE ON EX NAYA RIVERA'S DEATH: 'A PART OF YOU WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US'

"I never knew that by losing you, I would find so much of you in myself," continued Nickayla. "⁣⁣I've never known a life without you in it & still can't imagine it. My world is turned upside down. But through it all, everything we were, we are still. I'll always look at you with the same eyes as I did when I was young.⁣⁣"

She concluded: "My shmaya, I'll love you for eternity & miss you every second of my life."

Nickayla and Rivera also had a brother, Mychal, who is a former pro football player.

The three siblings appeared in a post on Nickayla's Instagram from May of 2019.

Victoria and Queensland to kick-off mobile phone detection camera trials - ZDNet

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 07:44 PM PDT

Both the Victorian and Queensland governments have announced that they will each be testing the use of phone-detection cameras on the roads to catch drivers illegally using their mobile phones while driving.

In Victoria, the three-month trial will begin on Wednesday, July 29 and involve placing the high-resolution cameras across several metropolitan and regional locations.

The testing will focus on ensuring the technology that is designed to detect mobile phone use behind the wheel and the possibility of other illegal driving activities, such as not wearing a seatbelt, can operate accurately before it is potentially rolled out.

At the same time, the trial will help the state government understand how the phone-detecting cameras could be integrated with existing road safety camera systems.

The trial will be carried out by Acusensus, a technology provider and the state government's current traffic camera services contractor.

"We know distracted drivers can have devastating outcomes on our roads -- this technology is another step towards targeting this kind of unacceptable behaviour and keeping all road users safe," Victorian Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville said.

During the trial, no infringements will be issued and no number plate matching will be undertaken, the Victorian government said, adding that all photographs captured would be deleted except for a "limited number" of de-identified images.

Over in Queensland, the state government will also be rolling out phone-detecting cameras across metropolitan and regional locations as part of a six-month evaluation trial.

Much like in Victoria, the cameras will not only be able to catch drivers illegally using their mobile phones while driving, but also people who are not wearing a seatbelt.

The Queensland government said the cameras use artificial intelligence to monitor vehicles across multi-traffic lanes for 24 hours, seven days a week, and could be installed on overpasses and bridges or operate from roadside trailers.

The Queensland government similarly said that those caught doing the wrong thing during the trial period would not be fined or receive a photograph of their illegal behaviour.

"Initially, we are simply evaluating the camera's effectiveness," Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said.

He also assured that while all vehicles that pass the cameras would be scanned, images would only be viewed by "authorised personnel" as part of the testing process.

Both trials follow the rollout of phone-detection cameras in New South Wales. The NSW government began issuing fines and demerit points to those who were caught using their mobile phones while driving by the cameras in March.

Prior to that, the cameras in NSW were operating in warning mode as part of a trial that kicked off back in 2018.

Olivia de Havilland, Oscar-winning actress, dies at 104 - cleveland.com

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 05:48 PM PDT

PARIS (AP) — Olivia de Havilland, the doe-eyed actress beloved to millions as the sainted Melanie Wilkes of "Gone With the Wind," but also a two-time Oscar winner and an off-screen fighter who challenged and unchained Hollywood's contract system, died Sunday at her home in Paris. She was 104.

Havilland, the sister of fellow Oscar winner Joan Fontaine, died peacefully of natural causes, said New York-based publicist Lisa Goldberg

De Havilland was among the last of the top screen performers from the studio era, and the last surviving lead from "Gone With the Wind," an irony, she once noted, since the fragile, self-sacrificing Wilkes was the only major character to die in the film. The 1939 epic, based on Margaret Mitchell's best-selling Civil War novel and winner of 10 Academy Awards, is often ranked as Hollywood's box office champion (adjusting for inflation), although it is now widely condemned for its glorified portrait of slavery and antebellum life.

The pinnacle of producer David O. Selznick's career, the movie had a troubled off-screen story.

Three directors worked on the film, stars Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable were far more connected on screen than off and the fourth featured performer, Leslie Howard, was openly indifferent to the role of Ashley Wilkes, Melanie's husband. But de Havilland remembered the movie as "one of the happiest experiences I've ever had in my life. It was doing something I wanted to do, playing a character I loved and liked."

During a career that spanned six decades, de Havilland also took on roles ranging from an unwed mother to a psychiatric inmate in "The Snake Pit," a personal favorite. The dark-haired De Havilland projected both a gentle, glowing warmth and a sense of resilience and mischief that made her uncommonly appealing, leading critic James Agee to confess he was "vulnerable to Olivia de Havilland in every part of my being except the ulnar nerve."

She was Errol Flynn's co-star in a series of dramas, Westerns and period pieces, most memorably as Maid Marian in "The Adventures of Robin Hood." But De Havilland also was a prototype for an actress too beautiful for her own good, typecast in sweet and romantic roles while desiring greater challenges.

Her frustration finally led her to sue Warner Bros. in 1943 when the studio tried to keep her under contract after it had expired, claiming she owed six more months because she had been suspended for refusing roles. Her friend Bette Davis was among those who had failed to get out of her contract under similar conditions in the 1930s, but de Havilland prevailed, with the California Court of Appeals ruling that no studio could extend an agreement without the performer's consent.

The decision is still unofficially called the "De Havilland law."

De Havilland went on to earn her own Academy Award in 1946 for her performance in "To Each His Own," a melodrama about out-of-wedlock birth. A second Oscar came three years later for "The Heiress," in which she portrayed a plain young homebody (as plain as it was possible to make de Havilland) opposite Montgomery Clift and Sir Ralph Richardson in an adaptation of Henry James' "Washington Square." In 2008, de Havilland received a National Medal of Arts and was awarded France's Legion of Honor two years later.

She was also famous, not always for the better, as the sister of Fontaine, with whom she had a troubled relationship. In a 2016 interview, de Havilland referred to her late sister as "Dragon Lady" and said her memories of Fontaine, who died in 2013, were "multi-faceted, varying from endearing to alienating."

"On my part, it was always loving, but sometimes estranged and, in the later years, severed," she said. "Dragon Lady, as I eventually decided to call her, was a brilliant, multi-talented person, but with an astigmatism in her perception of people and events which often caused her to react in an unfair and even injurious way."

De Havilland once observed that Melanie Wilkes' happiness was sustained by a loving, secure family, a blessing that eluded the actress even in childhood.

She was born in Tokyo on July 1, 1916, the daughter of a British patent attorney. Her parents separated when she was 3, and her mother brought her and her younger sister Joan, to Saratoga, California. De Havilland's own two marriages, to Marcus Goodrich and Pierre Galante, ended in divorce.

Her acting ambitions dated back to stage performing at Mills College in Oakland, California. While preparing for a school production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," she went to Hollywood to see Max Reinhardt's rehearsals of the same comedy. She was asked by to read for Hermia's understudy, stayed with the production through her summer vacation and was given the role in the fall.

Warner Bros. wanted stage actors for their lavish 1935 production and chose de Havilland to co-star with Mickey Rooney, who played Puck.

"II wanted to be a stage actress," she recalled. "Life sort of made the decision for me."

She signed a five-year contract with the studio and went on to make "Captain Blood," "Dodge City" and other films with Flynn, a hopeless womanizer even by Hollywood standards.

"Oh, Errol had such magnetism! There was nobody who did what he did better than he did," said de Havilland, whose bond with the dashing actor remained, she would insist, improbably platonic. As she once explained, "We were lovers together so often on the screen that people could not accept that nothing had happened between us."

She did date Howard Hughes and James Stewart and had an intense affair in the early '40s with John Huston. Their relationship led to conflict with Davis, her co-star for the Huston-directed "In This Our Life"; Davis would complain that de Havilland, a supporting actress in the film, was getting greater and more flattering time on camera.

De Havilland allegedly never got along with Fontaine, a feud magnified by the 1941 Oscar race that placed her against her sister for best actress honors. Fontaine was nominated for the Hitchcock thriller "Suspicion" while de Havilland was cited for "Hold Back the Dawn, a drama co-written by Billy Wilder and starring de Havilland as a school teacher wooed by the unscrupulous Charles Boyer.

Asked by a gossip columnist if they ever fought, de Havilland responded, "Of course, we fight. What two sisters don't battle?" Like a good Warner Bros soap opera, their relationship was a juicy narrative of supposed slights and snubs, from de Havilland reportedly refusing to congratulate Fontaine for winning the Oscar to Fontaine making a cutting crack about de Havilland's poor choice of agents and husbands.

Though she once filmed as many as three pictures a year, her career slowed in middle age. She made several movies for television, including "Roots" and "Charles and Diana," in which she portrayed the Queen Mother. She also co-starred with Davis in the macabre camp classic "Hush ... Hush, Sweet Charlotte" and was menaced by a young James Caan in the 1964 chiller "Lady in a Cage," condemning her tormenter as "one of the many bits of offal produced by the welfare state."

In 2009, she narrated a documentary about Alzheimer's, "I Remember Better When I Paint." Catherine Zeta-Jones played de Havilland in the 2017 FX miniseries about Davis and Joan Crawford, but de Havilland objected to being portrayed as a gossip and sued FX. The case was dismissed.

Despite her chronic stage fright, she did summer stock in Westport, Connecticut, and Easthampton, New York. Moviemaking, she said, produced a different kind of anxiety: "The first day of making a film I feel, `Why did I ever get mixed up in this profession? I have no talent; this time they'll find out.'"

Instagram(@taeko_ol)に45万、Twitter(@OLtaeko)に16万超のフォロワーがおり、現在TOKYO MXでアニメが放映されています。
