JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) - The Janesville School District voted Tuesday evening on the fall re-entry plan.
After an 8-0 vote, in-person instruction will be the default however parents will have the choice to register students for virtual or hybrid if they feel that is best for them. High school students will have a three-week window at the beginning of each semester to decide on the mode of instruction they will stick with for that semester.
“There’s freedom to move for elementary and middle school kids ... there’s flexibility,” Janesvill School District Superintendent Steve Pophal said.
The district is encouraging families to go online between now and the end of July to register their children for the 2020-2021 school year and indicate which mode of instruction they prefer.
The district hopes to have most students registered on or before Aug. 1. As selections start coming in, reports will be made available to principals and counselors so student schedule can be made with the indicated mode of instruction in mind.
Based on Rock County Survey data presented at the meeting, the majority of respondents were in favor of face to face learning or a combination of face to face and virtual learning.
Parents will receive further information on instruction Wednesday.
“At the end of the day, we will try to recognize this is a fluid situation,” said Pophal. “The plan we are here presenting to you tonight is subject to change. It has to be.”
