After a disappointing season, two more Kansas State men’s basketball players officially entered the NCAA transfer portal.
K-State Athletics announced that sophomore guard DaJuan Gordon and junior guard Rudi Williams will leave the program on Friday, March 19. The two join sophomore Antonio Gordon who departed earlier this week.
Head coach Bruce Weber gave different explanations for the two players for their transfer, stating Gordon wanted to be more of a focal point on offense.
“After several conversations with DaJaun and his family following the season, he informed me of his decision,” Weber said in a release to the athletic department. “Although DaJuan has played significant minutes and started most games the past two seasons, he indicated his desire to have a larger role offensively. Obviously, we are disappointed with his decision, but we wish him the best in basketball and life.”
Gordon played in 57 games for the Wildcats over the last two years, starting in 33 of those games. A high-energy player, the Chicago native averaged 7.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and a single assist for his stint in Manhattan.
This last season, Gordon averaged 9.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
As for Williams, his conversations with Weber revolved around fit. The Ontario, Canada native committed to the Wildcats in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic without visiting campus once.
“We recruited and signed Rudi during the early part of the pandemic without him even visiting campus and getting a feeling for our program, so this gives him the opportunity to evaluate what type of school will be best for him moving forward. We wish him well,” Weber said.
Williams played in 27 games during the 2020-21 season, starting in four of those. He averaged 4.8 points on 40.3 percent shooting, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists while playing in just over 18 minutes per game.
Currently, a total of three scholarship players departed from the program since the season’s end. It is not known at this time if any more players will be leaving.
