AUSTIN, Texas – Colorado track and field put together the third-best quartet in school history Saturday afternoon at the 93rd Texas Relays here, finishing second in the collegiate division with a time of 3:07.24.
 
The men's team of Tyler Williams, Aaron McCoy, Kendal Smith and Ronald Sayles started the race in first through the halfway mark with Williams and McCoy running an average split of 46.6. Smith carried the baton around in 47.04 but dropped a place to Oklahoma, while Sayles finished in a split of 46.95. The mark is the third-best season 4x400 in school history and the fastest in more than two decades.
 
The women's team also ran into the top-10 in CU history, running 3:40.73 to finish third in the collegiate division. Valerie Welch and Eriana Henderson averaged splits of 55.13 seconds for the first half of the race, then Tamia Badal ran the third in 56.22 and Abbey Glynn carried it home in 54.26.
 
Henderson doubled up today as she also finished ninth in the women's 400 hurdles final in 59.03.
 
In Colorado, the Buffs combined events and throws squads took action in the CSU-Pueblo Spank Blasing meet. Jada Green was the highest finisher for CU, placing second in the 100 hurdles in 14.43. The other top-three mark for the women came from Avery McMullen in the long jump where her mark of 5.90 meters (19-04.25) earned her a third place finish as well as putting her seventh in the CU record books. McMullen also finished third in the 200 in 25.15.
 
The men's highest finish and only finish inside the top-eight came in the pole vault as Nick Bianco cleared 4.51 meters (14-09.5) to finish fifth.
 
Action next weekend will be a special one as the Buffs send the throws and distance squads to the newly renovated Hayward Field to compete in the Hayward Premiere.
