Another Blue Devil will be taking his talents elsewhere next season.
Similarly to Jordan Goldwire, graduate student big man Patrick Tape will use his extra year of eligibility at another school next year and is entering the transfer portal, according to a team release Tuesday. Tape had transferred to Duke from Columbia prior to this past season and was the Blue Devils' first-ever grad transfer.
The News and Observer's Steve Wiseman first reported the news earlier Tuesday afternoon.
"I can't express how grateful I am to the staff, my teammates and everyone who helped me along the way during my time at Duke," Tape said in the release. "I'll never forget the experiences, memories and lasting friendships I've made during my time here. In talking with my parents and the Duke coaching staff, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal and look forward to what's to come."
The Charlotte native didn't see the floor much during his lone season in Durham, appearing in just 10 total games and only playing in double-digit minutes in one of those. He averaged 1.1 points and 1.1 rebounds across 4.5 minutes per contest as a whole.
Tape is the third Blue Devil to announce he is entering the transfer portal, following Goldwire and freshman Jaemyn Brakefield.
"I want to thank Patrick and his family for committing to our program this season," head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "The experience and veteran presence he brought to our locker room were important in such a unique and challenging season. He is a selfless player and was instrumental in the development of our younger frontcourt players. Patrick is a model student-athlete that will leave here holding an undergraduate degree from Columbia and a graduate degree from Duke and I wish him all of the best."
