CORALVILLE, Iowa (KTIV) - The Iowa Department of Corrections has denied OSHA inspectors entry to the Iowa Medical Classification Center in Coralville, Iowa
This is according to accounts by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, members within the institution.
The inspectors were there to investigate a complaint filed last week into continued and long-standing issues of workplace safety at the facility.
The complaint says the Department of Corrections failed to act on the findings of another OSHA report.
In August of 2020, the Department of Corrections was cited for an unsafe workplace and ordered to fix the issues, and fined more than $9,000.
Now, The complaint filed last week cited lack of training for staff, inoperable radio communication system within the facility and unsafe environments where prisoners and staff interact.
