As far as home run hitters go, essentially no one has been hotter than Washington Nationals outfielder Kyle Schwarber.
After blasting three homers on Sunday -- yes, you read that right -- Schwarber now has nine in his last ten games. With 18 on the season, he is just five back of the league lead.
Give his recent stretch, it's worth wondering if the outfielder should be a part of the 2021 Home Run Derby at Coors Field.
Right now, Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani is the only known competitor in the field, so far. Tied for the league-lead in home runs at 23, it's exciting to see such a prominent player participate. In an ideal world, many other big names could join him.
While Schwarber may not be as well-known or considered a star, he's earned a right to at minimum be in consideration for this event.

The recent hot streak is great, but Schwarber has also shown throughout his career that when he's on, the ball is going to fly out of the ballpark. That includes three straight seasons with 25 or more homers from 2017 to 2019. In 2019, he launched a career-high 38. With a sweet swing from the left side and a lot of power, Schwarbombs are always exciting.
More than that, he's also already demonstrated that he can shine in the Home Run Derby. Back in 2018 at Nationals Park, Schwarber hit 55 homers, which was the highest total. The only thing that prevented him from taking home the title was a 19-18 loss in a head-to-head battle with Bryce Harper. Remember that?
Now, imagine taking that fireworks show from Schwarber and putting it at Coors Field, where the ball flies out. Not only does he have a chance to win it, but he may hit one 500 feet in the process.
Schwarber may not have fans clamoring for him to join like Ronald Acuna Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr., but based on his body of work as a home run hitter and recent torrid pace, no one should have a problem with him joining the competition.
