The biennial San Diego to Vallarta International Yacht Race will be held March 10-18, 2022. At 1050 nm, the typically offwind course extends from San Diego, California to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. San Diego Yacht Club has been running the West Coast’s only continuous yacht race to mainland Mexico, a tradition that began in 1953.
The 2020 Puerto Vallarta Race finished just as the coronavirus pandemic took hold with a promising outlook now for the 2022 edition. The 2020 event attracted 29 entries with participants ranging in size from the Overall Winner in the Hobie 33 Sizzle to Line Honors Winner the Botin 80 Cabron.
With the cancellations of numerous yachting events since March 2020, expectations are high for a strong level of participation in the 2022 Vallarta Race. Many of the West Coast’s top grand prix teams have the event on their list such as the Volvo 70 Pyewacket and the new Botin 56 Bad Pak.
