June 28 (UPI) -- Authorities have identified nearly all of the known victims who were killed last week in the partial collapse of a condo tower near Miami -- but there are still more than 150 people missing, including the sister of Paraguay's first lady.
Crews worked through the weekend to find victims and possible survivors in the debris of the Champlain Towers building in Surfside, about 3 miles north of Miami Beach and 10 miles northwest of downtown Miami.
Part of the building's east wing collapsed early Thursday and emergency personnel have been continually working at the scene since.
At least nine people have died in the disaster, and officials said Sunday night they have identified eight of them.
The dead have been identified as Leon Oliwkowicz, 80; Luis Bermudez, 26; Anna Ortiz, 46; Christina Beatriz Elvira, 74; Stacie Dawn Fang, 54; Antonio Lozano, 83; Gladys Lozano, 79; and Manuel "Manny" LaFont, 54.
Oliwkowicz, Ortiz, Bermudez and Elvira were the the most recent to be identified, on Sunday night. Authorities say 152 remain missing.
One of the missing persons is Sophia Lopez Moreira, the sister of Paraguayan first lady Silvana Lopez Moreira. Paraguayan officials told CNN that Lopez, her parents and brother-in-law only arrived in Florida shortly before the collapse.
Sophia Lopez Moreira is among six Paraguayans listed as missing. Other South American and Jewish nationals are also on the missing list.
Families of the missing have expressed some frustration at the pace of the rescue efforts, which were slowed by a fire and a need to slowly remove debris to prevent further collapse.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Alan Cominsky has said robots, dogs, drones, sonar technology, cameras and numerous teams -- including personnel from Mexico and Israel -- are involved in the search.
A cause of the collapse has not yet been announced, but local engineers had reportedly found some structural damage to the condo building in 2018 survey report, including evidence of flooding, cracking and corrosion.
Built in 1981, the 12-story building was up for its 40-year recertification and was undergoing renovation work on its roof at the time of the collapse, officials said. Additional renovations were also planned.
