The least-expensive 2022 Honda Pilot will cost $4,280 more than the least-expensive 2021 Honda Pilot. But that figure is misleading. Pilot prices have gone up, by between $300 and $1,000 depending on trim level. But the bigger increase is a mirage. Honda dropped the entry-level trim from the lineup entirely and replaced it with a much better-equipped option.
It also helps create some separation between the 3-row Pilot and the smaller, 2-row Passport SUV.
The Pilot has consistently ranked near the top of our list of the best 3-row midsize SUVs. It’s known for rock-solid reliability, a spacious cabin with all the trimmings, and one of the strongest resale values on the market.
New Entry-Level Sport Trim
For the new model year, it’s those trimmings that change. The bottom of the lineup is the all-new Sport trim. It’s quite well-equipped for an entry-level model. The Sport comes with heated and power-adjustable front seats, 3-zone climate control, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, among other amenities.
Off-Road-Oriented TrailSport Model
The other new entry to the Pilot lineup is the TrailSport trim. Honda has announced plans to market a TrailSport sub-brand full of off-road-oriented versions of its crossovers and Ridgeline truck. But, for 2022, TrailSport seems to be appearing as a mild off-roading package, rather than an entire sub-brand with heavy trail gear.
The Pilot TrailSport uses Honda’s existing all-wheel-drive system, and a suspension lift that adds 0.6 inches of ground clearance. It rides on 18-inch wheels “with tires sporting a more rugged-design sidewall,” Honda says. Black and orange TrailSport badges and new fender flares distinguish it from the outside.
Inside, the Pilot TrailSport features orange contrast stitching on its leather seats. TrailSport badging adorns the seats. A one-touch moonroof and a navigation system are standard.
Pricing:
Honda also requires a $1,225 destination fee on all Pilots.
