The Swedish authorities have decided to remove the entry ban for vaccinated travellers from the United States in a reciprocity move, after the latter is set to soon open its borders for the vaccinated arrivals from 33 countries, including here Swedes.

In a press release published on October 28, the Swedish Ministry of Justice announced that travellers holding vaccination certificates issued by US authorities will be exempt from the entry ban, starting from next Friday, November 5.

Sweden enjoys close and good relations with the US and cooperates on important matters in many areas. Travel between Sweden and the US is therefore of major importance in many different ways,” the press release reads.

It further claims that since the US is planning to permit vaccinated travellers from 26 Schengen Area to enter its territory from November 8, “it is therefore very important that vaccinated travellers from the US can also travel more easily to Sweden.”

Recently it has been revealed that the borders will open in the second week of November to all travellers who have been vaccinated with one of the vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Since September 24, vaccinated travellers from Albania, Andorra, the Faroe Islands, Israel, Morocco, Monaco, and Panama were also permitted to Sweden under the same conditions as EU nationals.

Whereas last Thursday, the Swedish authorities also extended the ban on entry to Sweden from countries outside and the EU/EEA, for which the entry ban has not been removed previously, until January 31, 2022.
