Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews and fellow forward Henrik Borgström are both in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol, the team said Tuesday. Five Chicago players and three coaches are now in the protocol.
Neither player was at their team's practice Tuesday morning. Toews and Borgström join teammates Patrick Kane, Riley Stillman and Jujhar Khaira, and coaches Marc Crawford, Tomas Mitell and Jimmy Waite in COVID-19 protocol.
Toews missed all of the 2020-21 season due to "chronic immune response syndrome", as he explained in a video released over social media in June. In an exclusive with The Athletic's Mark Lazerus, Toews also acknowledged that he likely had COVID-19 symptoms in February of 2020, and that he could be a COVID long-hauler.
In six games this year, Toews has two assists. Borgström, in his first season with Chicago, has a goal and an assist.
Chicago's next game is against Toronto Wednesday at the United Center. The Blackhawks are off to a 0-5-1 start.
