| Harris County drops charge against Baytown man in viral arrest video - Houston Chronicle Posted: 04 Jun 2020 10:47 PM PDT  A Baytown man whose arrest was captured Tuesday in a viral video will have one of his charges dropped, according to the Harris County district attorney's office. Skylar Gilmore, 24, was charged with interfering with public duties after allegedly using profane language towards two police officers arresting one of his friends at a Baytown convenience store. Gilmore's arrest was recorded by a friend and emerged Wednesday on social media. In the video, Baytown Officer Nathaniel Brown can be seen crossing the parking lot to the store's front and approaching Gilmore, who is on the phone. Brown then throws Gilmore on the ground, ripping his shirt off, and kneeing him in the head. Dane Schiller, a spokesman for the Harris County district attorney's office, said in a statement that the viral video is what led to prosecutors dropping the charge against Gilmore. "After reviewing video evidence in the matter, prosecutors quickly determined the charge was not warranted; there was no evidence (Gilmore) committed a crime, and there was no reason for him to continue to be burdened with the charge," Schiller said. In a statement, the Baytown Police Department said the incident was referred by the police chief to its Internal Affairs Division to "conduct a complete and thorough review of the incident." Gilmore and Isaiah Phillips, 23, still face disorderly conduct charges in Baytown. In a phone interview Thursday, Gilmore said he was pleased that Harris County dropped the charge and that he plans to fight the disorderly conduct charge as well. "I don't feel vindicated about the whole situation," Gilmore added. The incident happened Tuesday evening in the parking lot of the Baytown Market Convenience Store in the 2900 block of Market Street. Officers pulled over Jostin Moore, 23, for unspecified traffic violations and an outstanding warrant from Deer Park. Gilmore and Phillips, were in a car following Moore when he was stopped. They pulled over in the store's parking lot while the officers searched Moore's car. During the course of Moore's arrest, Baytwon police officials said Gilmore and Phillips began using profanities from a distance. A second officer confronts Phillips, who was also in front of the store. After Brown handcuffs Gilmore, he approaches Phillips and slams his head on the hood of Gilmore's truck, eventually arresting him. "They told me to calm down, my friend told me to calm down and step back, so I stepped back by Skylar's truck," Phillips recounted in a phone interview Wednesday. "Officer Brown came up to me with handcuffs and he slammed me onto Skylar's vehicile and left a dent." In a phone interview Wednesday, Gilmore said the officers misunderstood him by confusing his conversation with his friend on the phone as being directed towards them. "I guess the police thought I was being vulgar towards them and they came to arrest me," Gilmore said. "I pulled away just a little bit but when I realized what was going on I put both of my hands down, and that's when Officer Brown proceeded to throw me into the wall." Gilmore said he believes Brown approached him because he overheard him talking to his friend, Dajone Mitchell, on the phone that Brown was the subject of a previous complaint. In January 2019, Ralpheal White filed a complaint with the Baytown Police Department after his encounter with Brown and a police K-9 in January 2019 landed him in the hospital. In the wake of the Tuesday incident, Gilmore and Phillips said they planned to file formal complaints with the police department and were also looking into hiring a lawyer and possibly filing a lawsuit against the department. | 今エンターテインメント企業がすべきこと: フロイドの死についての抗議行動に寄せて - ギズモード・ジャパン Posted: 04 Jun 2020 09:34 PM PDT  一体何が起きているのでしょうか。 Apple ストアもめちゃくちゃに..まるで略奪。さらに黒人コミュニティのための抗議行動であるはずが、黒人経営者のお店が破壊されるなど、混乱を極めています。 1992年のロサンゼルス暴動を彷彿とさせますが、実は私はこの暴動の時には現地ロサンゼルスにいたんですよね...。正直怖かったです。窓を開けるとダウンタウンは遠いはずなのに街全体が煙で霞がかったようになっていて、外にでるのすら恐怖。家具屋さんからソファを担ぎ出している人たちの姿をテレビで見て唖然としたものでした。今回も、当時と同じく、抗議運動に乗じてやりたい放題やっているひともいるように思えます。そんな今、メディアの在り方についての考察を米GizmodoのBeth Elderkinがまとめています。 ここ最近ずっと、ミネアポリスでのジョージ・フロイドの死を発端として、全米のいたるところで人種差別と黒人に対する警察の暴力についての抗議が繰り広げられています。5月30日の週末にかけて、米の警察はますます暴力で制圧しており、各メディアは機は熟したとばかりに黒人コミュニティとの連帯に関するツイートを次々と投稿してきました。これは単なる幕開けなのかもしれません。でも実際にio9がこれら各企業に、この暴動に対し今わたしたちに何ができるのかを問いただしても、多くの企業で明確な答えは得られませんでした。 事件の概要とその後のデモことの発端は5月25日に起きたあの事件。20ドルの偽札を使った疑いで、元警察官デレク・ショービンが逮捕しようとジョージ・フロイドを押さえつける動画が公開されたのがきっかけです。ショービンは｢息ができない｣という悲痛な訴えも無視しながらフロイドの首元を9分ほども押さえつけています。数日間の抗議を経てショービンは逮捕され、第3級謀殺罪と第2級故殺罪で起訴されることに。ただし、フロイドが助けを求めるのを横目にただ立っていただけの3人の警官については、解雇処分のみ（朝日新聞デジタルによると、6月3日、デレク・ショービンは第2級の殺人罪に、他3人の警察官についても、第2級殺人の幇助（ほうじょ）罪で起訴されました）。この事件はこれだけでも悲惨を極めていますが、アメリカの警官がこれまで黒人を殺害したケースが極めて多いことと、殺害した側の警官の責任を追求から守るシステムに焦点が当たる結果となりました。 抗議は6月に入ってからも続き、アメリカでは抗議行動や集会が全米各地で繰り広げられました。抗議の集会はアメリカだけにとどまらず、ニュージーランドやイギリスでも行なわれています。アメリカでのデモはことごとく警官の制圧に遭い、抗議に参加した人たちやジャーナリストに向けて催涙弾やゴム弾が発射され、だれかれ構わず逮捕されるなど、大騒ぎとなったのです。ナショナル・ガードと呼ばれる州兵まで召喚され、暴動が発生した各地へと派遣されました。フロイドが死んだ日の週末は阿鼻叫喚に怒りと涙が入り混じったものとなりました。少なくとも米政府が好戦的な姿勢を崩さない限りは 、簡単に収まりそうな気配はありません。 メディア企業はどのように黒人コミュニティを支えていくのか5月31日には、複数のメディア企業が、黒人雇用者やコミュニティを支援する内容のツイートを発信し、Disney（ディズニー）およびMarvel（マーベル）以外の多くは｢Black Lives Matter （黒人の命も他の命と同じく大切）｣というフレーズをメッセージに含めています。このような連帯とそれに対する共感はいまだかつて見たことがない規模です。 以前、企業は同性結婚についての議論が巻き起こったときに、LGBTQ関連で同様の声明を出したことがありました。また、2017年の｢Women's March｣でも男女平等をテーマに似たような動きはありました。今までにも企業のCEOや雇用者が個人として不平等に声をあげることはあったものの、有名ブランドがブランドとして人種についての議論に参加したことはありませんでした。このような結束がこの荒波の中に急速に生まれたのも、予期せぬことでした。ただそれだけでは、不十分です。 そこでio9では、さまざまなメディア企業に質問をぶつけてみました。Disney/Marvel、Warner Bros.、Universal、Netflix、Amazon Studios、ViacomCBS、Paramount、Sony、Hulu、The CW、HBO...これらの企業はすべて黒字に白文字で連帯をうたったテキストでの声明を事件直後にツイートしています。そこで、連帯について具体的に黒人コミュニティをどう支えていくのか、直接聞いてみることにしたのです。犯罪者の保釈金のための基金に寄付をしたのか、コミュニティのリーダー的立場の人や組織に送金したのか。これらの有名ブランドの企業内において発生していると思われる、人種差別的な偏見に向き合って対処する声をあげているか。黒人コミュニティに｢そばにいるよ｣と言うだけでなく、支援をするために具体的に何をしているのか。 いまのところ、回答が得られたのはHBOとViacomCBSのみ。ViacomCBSでは｢Minnesota Freedom Fund｣やその他のグループへの寄付を従業員に呼びかけていると回答しました。また、6月6日の週末に開催される｢Blackout Tuesday｣の参加も表明しています。 HBOはソーシャルメディアで共有されていることとWarnerMediaの内部コミュニケーションに関するレポートについて教えてくれました。Disney は質問に答えてくれませんでしたが、CEO Bob Chapekの覚書をリリースしています。 Disneyは｢本当に変わるまで、声を上げ続ける｣としています。6月3日、同社は｢社会正義を推進する非営利団体｣に500万ドル（約5億4000万円）を寄付すると発表しました。まずはNAACP（全米黒人地位向上協会）に200万ドル（約2億円）を寄付するとのことです。 メディア企業は警察との関係を見直すべきメディア企業が人種差別に抗議する黒人をほんとうにサポートしたいのであれば、ツイートするだけじゃなく、行動すべきです。自分たちの企業の内部で組織的な差別がないかを表立って認識し、差別的な扱いを助長する警察との関係も見直すべきなんです。Amazonは監視やプロファイリングのために主にRingネットワークにて警察署と連携することを考え直すべきです。たとえば、抗議行動を制圧するための準備エリアとして、ロス市警にCBSの駐車場を使用する許可を出したのはなぜか。io9の質問に対し、 ViacomCBSでは駐車場は所有していないため、警察がそこを使用することについては決められないと述べていますが、それを非難する声明も行動も出していません。 警察だけではありません。準軍事組織システムも黒人に対する差別を許しているのです。Warner BrosはDC Entertainment社やその他の映画会社のための米陸軍との取引を考え直した方がいい。最近の調査によれば、米陸軍兵士の三分の一は、同じ階級内で差別を受けたか、差別を受けているのを見たことがあると回答しています。Disneyは米空軍と契約を結び、Captain Marvelを女性志願兵のリクルートのマスコットに使う取引を行なっていますが、報告によれば空軍は軍内の司法制度内にある人種格差問題をなかなか解決できないでいることがわかっています。 Marvel Entertainment （Disney所有）は民間軍事メーカーNorthrop Grumman（ノースロップ・グラマン）と提携してNorthrop Grummanto社のプロモーションタイアップコミックを制作しようとしていました。このコミックは後に黒人エンジニアが出自についての差別を受けて告訴したことを受け、制作中止となっています。 また、Marvel Comicsは日本人になりすまし、ヨシダ・アキラというペンネームを使って他の出版社に漫画を描いていたC.B. | Protesters, ACLU sue over use of force at White House ahead of Trump's church visit - CNN Posted: 04 Jun 2020 09:08 PM PDT The lawsuit -- which names Trump, Attorney General William Barr and other federal officials as defendants -- says the administration-directed police had "no legitimate basis to destroy the peaceable gathering" of people protesting the death of George Floyd. "This case is about the President and Attorney General of the United States ordering the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators who were speaking out against discriminatory police brutality targeted at Black people," reads the lawsuit. Trump's walk across Lafayette Square on Monday evening to St. John's Episcopal Church that took place after authorities forcibly pushed out peaceful protesters has drawn criticism from lawmakers and public figures, including former Defense Secretary James Mattis. During the police effort to clear the crowd Monday, there were reports and eyewitness accounts that canisters were shot in the crowd, putting off thick smoke that contained an irritant that made people choke and cough.  Barr defended those actions Thursday, saying at a news conference that difficulties with relocating authorities had forced the clash. Barr maintained that his decision to disperse the crowd followed signs that the crowd was "becoming increasingly unruly," and had nothing to do with the photo-op at the church. "There was no correlation between our tactical plan of moving the perimeter out by one block and the President's going over to the church," Barr said. The episode -- showing federal forces move in on peaceful protesters -- sparked a national outcry, including within the district where Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser denounced what she described as an attack against protesters. Bowser's attorney general, Karl Racine, has now launched an investigation into the matter. On Tuesday, Trump took a victory lap on Twitter after declaring "no problems" in DC or Minneapolis Monday night, using terms like "overwhelming force" and "domination." Plaintiffs in Thursday's lawsuit seized on those words. "For Defendants to describe their actions as 'domination' is telling. To dominate is to establish supremacy by subjugation of others. It is precisely such domination -- in the form of centuries of white supremacy and subjugation of Black lives -- that was the core focus of the peaceful demonstration in Lafayette Square," the lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, reads. Plaintiffs include residents of Washington, DC, and Maryland who attended the demonstration. The lawsuit also seeks damages for sustained injuries. Thursday's lawsuit was filed by the ACLU of DC, Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and the law firm of Arnold & Porter on behalf of Black Lives Matter D.C. and individual protesters who were in Lafayette Park on Monday evening.  The ACLU is also filing lawsuits across the country in response to use of force against journalists. "The President's shameless, unconstitutional, unprovoked and frankly criminal attack on protesters because he disagreed with their views shakes the foundation of our nation's constitutional order," Scott Michelman, legal director of the ACLU of the District of Columbia, told CNN. "And when the nation's top law enforcement officer becomes complicit in the tactics of an autocrat, it chills protected speech for all of us." "For the President to refer to this assault as domination is very telling and indicates a willingness to use brute force to trample on the rights of Americans," said Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. "The Lafayette Square assault amounts to unconstitutional and unlawful state-sponsored violence perpetrated against nonviolent civil rights activists. The actions of the government caused harm and were intended to chill the speech and right to assembly of people exercising constitutionally protected rights. This lawsuit is about defending rights that lie at the heart of our democracy." CNN previously reported it was ultimately Barr who ordered the move to clear protesters. Barr and other top officials from agencies responsible for securing the White House had planned to secure a wider perimeter around Lafayette Square in response to fires and destruction on Sunday night. Trump said Wednesday he was unaware of the tactics used to clear the park ahead of his visit to the church. "When I said go to the church, I didn't know, protesters or not, nobody tells me that. They say, 'Yes sir, we'll go to the church,'" he said. Trump claimed law enforcement in the area "didn't use tear gas," which is untrue, according to the definition of tear gas used by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  House Democrats have also sought answers from the administration about the events that transpired Monday. Four Democratic chairmen wrote to Barr, Defense Secretary Mark Esper, Interior Secretary David Bernhardt and acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf this week seeking information and a briefing about who gave the order to clear the park, which federal agencies were involved and what measures and authorizations were used. "We want to be clear: the use of federal personnel to prevent American citizens from exercising their Constitutional right to peaceably assemble represents a direct threat to our democracy," the lawmakers said. Racine, DC's attorney general, is also trying to get answers from state governments and the Justice Department about whether the deployment of National Guard troops to the city this week was appropriate. In letters sent Thursday night to more than a dozen states that either sent or may have been asked to send troops, Racine asked state leaders to tell the city by Saturday who asked for the troops to go to Washington, what legal authority they had to do so and whom the troops reported to once they arrived. The states' answers will help Racine's office "fully evaluate whether the federal government's conduct was proper," the letters read. Racine also sent questions to Barr, Esper and the White House, writing in a letter that "the District government has received very little information about the legal basis for these entities' presence." Thursday, just a day after their initially planned departure was abruptly delayed. The soldiers with the 82nd Airborne Division have been kept at military bases outside the city, and will now return to Fort Bragg, N.C., according to a defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss impending troop movements. The official said Defense Secretary Mark Esper has approved the move. On Wednesday, defense officials approved an order to send the soldiers home, but just a few hours later Esper reversed the decision, keeping them outside the city for another day amid growing tensions with the White House over the military response to the protests. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told The Associated Press that he was told about the reversal after Esper attended a meeting at the White House Wednesday, and after other internal Pentagon discussions. McCarthy said he believed the change was based on ensuring there is enough military support in the region to respond to any protest problems if needed. Wednesday night marked the third night of more peaceful demonstrations in Washington, D.C. The soldiers are the first active-duty to leave. The remainder of the active-duty troops are expected to get pulled home in the coming days if conditions allow. The active-duty troops were available, but were not used in response to the protests. About 1,300 active-duty troops were brought in to the capital region early this week as protests in the city turned violent. The protests came in the aftermath of the death in Minnesota of a black man, George Floyd, who died after a white police officer pressed his knee to Floyd's neck for several minutes. The active-duty unit that will be last to remain on alert is the Army's 3rd Infantry Regiment, which is normally most visible as the soldiers who stand at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The troops, known as the Old Guard, are based close to D.C. at Fort Myer, Virginia, and have been on 30-minute alert status. | Enterprise Mobile Phishing Attacks Spike Amid COVID-19 Crisis - HealthITSecurity.com Posted: 04 Jun 2020 07:44 PM PDT - The number of phishing attacks targeting enterprise mobile devices sharply increased during the first quarter of 2020, driven by the rise in remote workers amid the COVID-19 crisis, according to a recent report from Lookout. The report confirms hackers have increasingly leveraged the pandemic for financial gain and mirrors similar findings on cloud services. McAfee recently reported remote attacks on cloud services spiked 630 percent during the pandemic. According to Lookout's Mobile Phishing Spotlight Report, hackers are also targeting enterprise mobile devices with mobile phishing attempts increasing by 37 percent between the last quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020, from 16 percent to 22 percent. Mobile phishing includes not only email phishing attempts, but also SMS attacks (smishing) and social engineering through social media platforms, driven by the increased difficulty in spotting malicious attempts and users who do not know how to preview a link on mobile before opening it. "Malicious actors have taken note of how reliant we are on mobile devices. From their perspective, mobile phishing is often the cheapest way to compromise an individual or an organization," researchers wrote. "Across all geographies and industries, there is a steady increase in the rate of both consumer and corporate users encountering mobile phishing attacks." "Smaller screens and shortened URLs make it harder to spot a phishing attack, so as the attackers become more savvy in creating near pixel-perfect imitation pages and leveraging social engineering, and taking advantage of smaller screens to make it harder to spot a phishing attack, the risk is dramatically increasing," they added. Enterprises across all sectors are regularly targeted by phishing attacks. But researchers explained that it's the highly regulated industries that make up the most targeted verticals, with the healthcare sector the most targeted at 15.5 percent of these attacks, followed closely by professional services (14.9 percent). The numbers are concerning as Verizon found that 37 percent of healthcare organizations shirk mobile security to more effectively do their job, thus increasing the risk to the enterprise. And 25 percent of providers faced a mobile device breach in 2018. Notably, the success rates of the attacks on enterprise devices declines after initially effectively attacks. Researchers noted that it's likely enterprise users quickly learn after falling victim to malicious links. Lookout also sought to address the financial risk posed by enterprise mobile phishing attacks. It's prime example is found with a nationwide health system that leverages 50,000 devices with mobile device management. The provider also holds about 100 million data records split between Android and iOS devices. At the minimum of 4,400 devices attacked in this manner with just 1,760 clicks on the malicious link, researchers estimated the median impacted would be about $500,000 annually. But with a maximum of 23,760 attacks on these devices and as many as 12,760 clicks, the maximum risk soared to $150 million each year. To shore up some of these risks, organizations must ensure each enterprise mobile device is equipped with phishing protection tools. Researchers further explained that without a tool to monitor devices, detecting and respond to a phishing incident is impossible. Employees should also be trained to report all suspicious incidents to the administrator. Healthcare organizations can also review recent draft guidance from NIST on mobile device security, which can also address the risk to mobile devices pose to the enterprise. "A successful mobile phishing attack can have a multitude of negative effects on a company beyond just financial loss," Lookout researchers explained. "The hit to brand reputation can be highly disruptive, especially in a highly regulated industry like financial services, legal, or healthcare that loses highly sensitive customer information." "The road to forgiveness by those customers that stick with the company is long and compliance officers will come knocking to levy fines against that firm," they concluded. "The financial loss of that alone has potential to be detrimental to the future growth of the company." "The phony protesters near Lafayette were not peaceful and are not real," Dowd's letter claimed, without citing any evidence. "They are terrorists using idle hate filled students to burn and destroy. They were abusing and disrespecting the police when the police were preparing the area for the 1900 curfew." CNN has reached out to the White House for comment on the description of the protesters as "terrorists." The President's decision to share the letter and its shocking description of Americans exercising their constitutional rights comes as he continues to lean into his strongman approach to the ongoing demonstrations. On Monday, he declared himself "your President of law and order" as the peaceful protesters just outside the White House gates were dispersed with gas, flash bangs and rubber bullets, apparently so he could visit a nearby church. He remained at the boarded-up building, brandishing a Bible for the cameras, for only a matter of minutes before returning to the White House. The letter drew condemnation from the Modern Military Association of America, a nonprofit organization for the LGBTQ military and veteran community. "Donald Trump just crossed a very serious line that demands swift and forceful condemnation by every Member of Congress," said the group's interim executive director, Air Force veteran Jennifer Dane. "Promoting a letter that labels American citizens peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights as 'terrorists' is an egregious breach of his oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Now more than ever, it is absolutely crucial that Trump be held accountable for his reckless actions." The episode followed nearly a week of protests across the country that at times have turned violent over the death of Floyd, a 46-year-old African American man who died while in police custody in Minneapolis. | Protest in Mobile is young, diverse and very peaceful - AL.com Posted: 04 Jun 2020 05:44 PM PDT  Situated between a World War I monument and a Confederate Civil War cannon, around 100 young activists gathered in Mobile's Memorial Park Thursday afternoon to protest the death of George Floyd and other black people who died at the hands of police. Compared to the civil unrest seen in Mobile on Sunday and in Birmingham and Huntsville over the last five days, Thursday's protest in the Port City was remarkably different. Protesters, who lined Old Government Street and Government Street, were young, diverse, and very peaceful. On the Government Street side of the protest, music blared as protesters of high school and college age paraded their signs and shouted, "Black Lives Matter" and "No Justice No Peace." In return, motorists honked and raised their fists in a show of solidarity. "Every age should be out here. We are trying to make a change," said Daimontage Finch-Tucker, 22, a Junior at the University of South Alabama and Army Reserve. Finch-Tucker said Mobile was fortunate it didn't have to see snipers on rooftops like in Huntsville. "They didn't think they were going to be shot. George Floyd didn't think his last words would be, 'I can't breathe.'" Finch-Tucker added that his cousin had been arrested for playing music too loudly while driving past a protest on Airport Boulevard Sunday evening. Police said that he helped incite the unrest that followed, including police shooting pepper balls at protesters. That same night, 13 people were arrested by MPD in connection with the protests. Around 26 charges were filed against those arrested, including charges of disorderly conduct, burglary, criminal mischief, and arson. Since then, Mobile has had a string of peaceful protests, taking place in Prichard and in West Mobile. Mobile Police Chief of Police Lawrence Battiste personally greeted some of the activists at a protest outside a Dollar Tree Tuesday, telling them to look after themselves. He then left and had a single patrol car come to ensure everyone was safe. At Thursday's protest in Memorial Park, police turned up on a couple of occasions to tell activists and one AL.com reporter to stay off the roadway. A few people shouted obscenities at the officer, who paid no attention and went back to his car. Despite the lack of police, some first-time protesters had decided to take precautions after having seen the violent clashes between police and protesters across the country. Taylor Spears, 22, asked her father to accompany her to Thursday's protests in case something happened. "I wanted to come anyways, but I wanted him with me because a lot of times this doesn't end well," she said. "I wanted someone to account for me when this is over." She added: "I think these start peacefully, but the people in power are itching to touch somebody and when you touch somebody that's when things turn. "I still haven't gotten over Trayvon Martin. I know people older than us have seen a lot but we're having to do something about that now." Philonise Floyd, one of Floyd's brothers, told a memorial service at a chapel in the Minnesota city's North Central University that their family was poor and that he and George would wash their socks and clothes with soap in the sink and dry them in the oven because they did not have a dryer. "It's crazy man, all these people came to see my brother, it's amazing he touched so many hearts," said the brother, wearing a dark suit and a badge with a photo of his brother and the words "I can't breathe" on his lapel. Floyd's death on May 25 has become the latest flashpoint for rage over police brutality against African Americans, propelling the issue of race to the top of the political agenda ahead of the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 3. Derek Chauvin, 44, was fired from the Minneapolis police force and charged with second-degree murder after being filmed in a widely circulated video kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes as Floyd gasped for air and repeatedly groaned, "Please, I can't breathe." Police say they suspected Floyd, 46, of using a counterfeit bill to pay for cigarettes. Huge crowds have defied curfews and taken to the streets of cities across the country for nine nights in sometimes violent protests that prompted President Donald Trump to threaten to send in the military. Ben Crump, a lawyer for Floyd's family, told the memorial service that the police action that day was evil. "What we saw in that video was evil. So America, as we proclaim as we memorialize George Floyd, do not accept evil. Protest against evil. We cannot cooperate with evil. We cannot cooperate with torture," Crump said. Prosecutors leveled new charges against four former Minneapolis police officers implicated in the killing on Wednesday. On Thursday, the three officers charged with aiding and abetting the murder of Floyd made their first appearances in court, where bail was set at $1 million but would be lowered to $750,000 if they agreed to certain conditions, including forfeiting any personal firearms. In linguistics, it's known as 'false friends', but on social media, it has become ammunition for Malaysians to mock a K-pop singer who goes by the stage name Babi. Babi (whose real name is So Young) is part of the South Korean girl group Fly With Me. Unfortunately, her stage name also happens to be the Malay word for 'pig', an animal which is considered haram, or forbidden, in Islamic law. While the word itself isn't offensive, the negative association with pigs has made the word become an insult.
