| Three months after Sprint merger, T-Mobile layoffs hit 127 employees in Louisville - Courier Journal Posted: 26 Jun 2020 10:44 PM PDT  LOUISVILLE, Ky. — T-Mobile, one of the country's largest cell phone carriers, confirmed it's laying off 127 employees in Louisville. The permanent job cuts come about three months after T-Mobile and rival Sprint completed a $26 billion merger. Former Sprint employees now under T-Mobile are being let go. Some 200 of the company's Kansas-based employees, for instance, recently were laid off, the Kansas City Business Journal reported this week. The affected Kentucky employees all worked at T-Mobile's offices at 4701 Olympia Park Plaza in East Louisville. They were notified through June 16, according to a letter sent to the Kentucky Career Center's Office of Employment and Training in Frankfort by Jennifer Cox, HR project/program manager. The cuts eliminated several sales positions, including more than 80 account executives. Cox did not respond to a reporter's phone message left late Friday. More: Roughly 43% of Kentuckians have filed jobless claims in past 11 weeks T-Mobile's highly contested merger with Sprint closed on April 1. The country's third- and fourth-largest carriers insisted the marriage would allow them to compete more effectively with the industry's leaders, AT&T and Verizon. After clearing months of regulatory hurdles this spring, T-Mobile promised to expand its 5G network and add more than 3,500 additional full-time U.S. employees in the first year and 11,000 more people by 2024, according to USA Today. Terms of the layoffs in Kentucky were not disclosed. But the online tech new site TechCrunch reported that severance packages for employees amounted to two weeks pay for every year on the job, plus a chance to apply for open jobs at the newly merged T-Mobile. | Posted: 26 Jun 2020 09:08 PM PDT  Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain was on Friday discharged from the Max Hospital here after he tested negative for COVID-19, sources said. Satyendra Jain, who had been tested positive for COVID-19, received plasma therapy in Max hospital in Saket on Friday.
Earlier, on June 20, the health minister's condition deteriorated. He was put on oxygen support after his lung infection worsened. As per the latest CT scan, his pneumonia patch had increased despite his being on continuous oxygen support. He was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in the early hours on June 15 after running a high-grade fever. Jain's first COVID-19 test result had come out negative, however, as his health condition worsened, he was made to run a second COVID-19 test. He said that because the government has increased the testing in the state, the cases are rising. Delhi government has set up 3,500 beds for COVID-19 patients in hotels in the last 10 days, Kejriwal informed.
CM Kejriwal said, at present, there are a total of 26,000 Corona patients, of which only 6,000 are hospitalized. 7,500 beds are still vacant in hospitals. Even after 3,000 - 3,500 cases a day, people do not need to go to the hospital. "COVID-19 cases in Delhi are mild and most of them don't require hospitalisation. | Viral video: Mother of 10 says she was coughed on at Jacksonville Pier One - WJXT News4JAX Posted: 26 Jun 2020 05:47 PM PDT JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Heather Sprague, a Jacksonville woman who says she's a brain tumor patient, said while waiting for an appointment, she donned her mask and went into a Pier One Imports to escape the summer heat. When she got inside, Sprague, a mother of 10 children, said she noticed a woman who was berating staff members in the store over an item she wanted to return but didn't have in her possession. Sprague noticed two young children wandering around the store, who she said accompanied the woman. While watching from a distance, Sprague wrote that she began taking video of the customer, posted below. "Do you really need this? What do you want to do - post it for you? How bout that?" the woman is heard saying while making obscene gestures. "I think I'll get really close to you and cough on you then, how's that? The woman is then seen coughing on Sprague. She then leaves the store with her children. It's unclear whether the incident was reported to police or whether the unnamed woman is facing charges. Sprague said on her Facebook page: "I did not speak, react, or engage. Simply stood to document the behavior. When bullies are faced with accountability they must acknowledge the unacceptability of their actions. Within 30 seconds of filming her tirade was done and she left the poor staff in peace." | COVID-19: Vietnam PM warns of economic calamity at ASEAN summit - CNA Posted: 26 Jun 2020 05:08 PM PDT  HANOI: Vietnam warned Friday (Jun 26) the virus pandemic had swept away years of economic gains as Southeast Asian leaders met online for a summit also dominated by anxiety over Beijing's moves in the flashpoint South China Sea. The current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) also wants to use the summit to inject momentum into talks on a sprawling China-backed trade pact. The immediate focus for the 10-member bloc is the crippling cost of the coronavirus, which has ravaged the economies of tourism and export-reliant countries such as Thailand and Vietnam. "It has swept away the successes of recent years ... threatening the lives of millions of people," Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said in a sobering opening address. He emphasised the "serious consequences" of the pandemic for economic development among ASEAN'S members. ASEAN General Secretary Lim Jock Hoi confirmed the bleak outlook, warning the region's economy is expected to contract for the first time in 22 years. Thailand is bracing for particularly rough news - its central bank now forecasts its economy to shrink by an unprecedented 8.1 per cent. Vietnam, which has won praise for containing the virus early, is still set to see at least two per cent chipped off its GDP in 2020. It hopes the summit will see progress on a trade agreement known as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, which is being pushed by China. A deal, which would loop in half the world's population and a third of its GDP, has been hampered by India's refusal to join over access to its market for cheap goods from China, the regional superpower it is now locked in a deadly border row with. The same month Vietnam also accused Beijing of sinking a trawler, prompting the United States to warn it was "exploiting the distraction" of other states "to expand its unlawful claims". China is always advancing its pieces on the "South China Sea chessboard", a senior Southeast Asian diplomat told AFP. Beijing took advantage of the Asian financial crisis in the late 90s and the SARS outbreak to push its claims, he added. "If there is a space, they move." | Allerio Mobile Hub certified for use on FirstNet, other LTE carrier networks - Urgent Communications Posted: 26 Jun 2020 03:44 AM PDT Startup Allerio announced that its easy-to-use Mobile Hub broadband platform designed for EMS use and the healthcare community has been certified for use by the FCC and multiple U.S. carriers—FirstNet/AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and U.S. Cellular. "One of the unique things about this is that there's one button on it—it turns the device on, and it turns the device off," Allerio CEO TJ Kennedy said during an interview with IWCE's Urgent Communications. "Everything else—setting up the unit on the multiple networks, engaging with VPNs and everything else, from a security standpoint—happens automatically for you. There's nothing you have to do." Introduced last fall and available immediately, the Allerio Mobile Hub has been redesigned to be even more portable while maintaining the ability support three LTE broadband connections, Kennedy said. Weighing 1.96 pounds, the Mobile Hub is 8.9 inches by 7.4 inches, with a thickness of just 1.2 inches, based on the company's specification sheet about the Mobile Hub. "We've done some additional design work on it, and it's significantly smaller, which is great," Kennedy said during an interview with IWCE's Urgent Communications. "It's fairly thin, and the nice thing is … it's as small as you're probably going to get right now for a multi-carrier unit, so that you get the RF capabilities that you want out of it." Those RF capabilities include the ability for a first-responder user to leverage the best of three potential LTE connections supported by the Mobile Hub—a decision that is made automatically, Kennedy said. "We have an algorithm, and the algorithm looks at a number of different factors," he said. "[The Mobile Hub is] going to be looking at latency. It's going to be looking at RSI. It's going to be looking at cell signal strength. It's going to be looking at a number of recent factors that determine the best connection and then leveraging that to always make sure that you're connected, even if you're on the move between different locations." Kennedy said the Allerio Mobile Hub can provide broadband data rates to as many as seven devices via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The 4G LTE connectivity provided by the Allerio Mobile Hub currently is available from one of four carriers—FirstNet/AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and U.S. Cellular—and the product is being tested for certification by T-Mobile. Allerio is offering this flexible connectivity as a platform-as-a-service package that is paid through a monthly subscription that includes technical support and the LTE connectivity agreements with as many as three LTE providers, Kennedy said. In the future, Allerio plans to develop the Mobile Hub to leverage 5G and high-powered user equipment (HPUE) broadband connectivity, he said. When used inside an ambulance or other first-responder vehicle, the Allerio Mobile Hub replaces the need for a vehicle router, Kennedy said. But the Mobile Hub's small form factor means it can be utilized away from the vehicle—a scenario that Kennedy expects will be realized often by Allerio Mobile Hub users. "We expect this unit to go in on every call, with their Go Bag or heart monitor," Kennedy said.
