NJ Advance Media has launched a daily coronavirus question, a service in which our reporters provide answers to commonly asked questions about the epidemic that has hit hard in New Jersey.
Today’s coronavirus question is answered by Dr. Henry Raymond, an associate professor and epidemiologist at the Rutgers School of Public Health, and Dr. Amisha Malhotra, an associate professor of Pediatric Infectious Disease at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Q: I have hot flashes. Can I be refused entry at an establishment that takes my temperature because they believe I have a fever?
A: It’s possible, but it also depends on how long the hot flashes last. According to Dr. Malhotra, most hot flashes are usually over quite quickly and you can feel them coming on. So, both she and Dr. Raymond suggest that any individual experiencing hot flashes not throw in the towel and accept that they cannot be admitted into the establishment if they are refused entry, but explain their situation and ask whoever is taking their temperature to repeat the process after waiting for a bit.
