In October of last year, the all-new midsize Buick Enclave debuted in China to expand the brand’s crossover offering in its biggest volume market. Almost a year later, General Motors is launching the 2021 Buick Enclave range in the Asian country with a new entry-level trim that will increase its competitiveness and growth potential in the world’s largest automotive market.
The second model year of the midsize Buick Enclave, which transformed the nameplate into a crossover family comprised of two different models, keeps the brand’s latest utility vehicle design language and powertrain setup intact in China – the only country where this shorter version is marketed. In addition to the new base trim level, another novelty of the Chinese-market 2021 Enclave is power-operating running boards for better access to the cabin.
As such, the new entry-level 2021 Buick Enclave trim is called Pioneer and retains most of the features most valued by local customers, with the exception of the panoramic roof, reversing camera as well as front-seat power adjustments, heating and ventilation. These elements will remain standard in the other six trim levels, which complete the model’s seven-variant lineup of in the Chinese market, which includes the range-topping Enclave Avenir.
2021 Buick Enclave Avenir
Thanks to its generous bodywork measuring 196.1 inches long, 76.9 inches wide and 68 inches tall, the 2021 Buick Enclave’s cabin can carry up to seven people with a three-row, 2+3+2 seating layout. Meanwhile, the 112.7-inch wheelbase, derived from the short and wide track version of the GM C1 platform, provides ample interior space and comfort for each occupant.
All versions of the China-exclusive midsize Buick Enclave are equipped with the turbocharged 2.0L LSY I-4 engine, which develops 233 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is completed by GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision Shift technology that is controlled via a row of buttons on the center console. Front-wheel drive is standard on base trims, while the more-equipped ones feature Buick’s latest AWD system as standard.
2.0L LSY I-4 Turbo engine
The 2021 Buick Enclave is now on sale in the Chinese market with an extensive list of safety features and class-leading technology, as well as an outstanding eight-year powertrain warranty. It is the largest Buick utility in that country and complements the broad portfolio made up of the Encore, Encore GX, Envision, all-new Envision S and Enclave. Here are the starting prices of the seven versions of the 2021 Enclave in China:
- 2021 Enclave Pioneer: 279,900 CNY (about $41,440 USD at the current exchange rate)
- 2021 Enclave Luxury: 299,900 CNY ($44,400 USD)
- 2021 Enclave Pioneer Luxury: 319,900 CNY ($47,360 USD)
- 2021 Enclave Prestige: 329,900 CNY ($48,840 USD)
- 2021 Enclave Flagship: 349,900 CNY ($51,800 USD)
- 2021 Enclave Flagship+: 359,900 CNY ($53,280 USD)
- 2021 Enclave Avenir: 379,900 CNY ($56,245 USD)
