CLEVELAND, Ohio – Edwins Restaurant and Leadership Institute is holding the fifth annual 5K Grind: Run for Re-Entry.

The run is 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25.

Participants battle challenging terrain in a show of support for formerly incarcerated adults seeking a second chance. This year, because of social distancing, registration will require staggered starts and pre-selected 10-person group time slots.

The run starts and ends in Shaker Square. Runners and walkers traverse a course with woods and water, which goes off road and uphill, and through narrow pathways. The nature of the run is meant as a reminder of perseverance, similar to what those recently released from prison face.

Funds raised at the event will directly support Edwins' mission. Edwins founder Brandon Chrostowski and his team train workers for the French restaurant and nearby bakery, diner, butcher shop and lifestyle center.

Registration for the run is $25 ($30 day-of). Registration for the one-mile walk is $15 ($20 day-of).

Runners and walkers who register by Sunday, Oct. 11, will receive a t-shirt (after that date, shirt sizes will be based on availability). Online registration will close Friday, Oct. 23. Day-of registration will take place in front of Edwins, 13101 Shaker Square, Cleveland.

“For all of us at Edwins, the Grind takes on new meaning this year,” Chrostowski said in a press release. “We realize that people are faced with hardships like never before, and for that reason, alone, we couldn’t sit back and let a chance to fight for second chances and re-entry pass us by.”
