The Chicago Bears are a franchise stuck in mediocrity. And the problem remains that Bears brass is content with that mediocrity, as evidenced by Chariman George McCaskey and President and CEO Ted Phillips’ evaluation of the 2020 season.

Never mind the decision to retain general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy for another season. It had more to do with how a six-game losing streak was essentially being celebrated by McCaskey and Phillips. That it’s the type of culture that other teams aspire to have.

No, other teams actually care about having a winning franchise.

With Pace and Nagy’s jobs on the line in 2021, expect plenty of changes to this team — namely quarterback. But there’s no reason to believe that anything will change with this franchise when the guys in charge refuse to acknowledge there’s a problem.

As the Bears head into an offseason of uncertainty, host Ryan O’Leary (@RyanOLearySMG) and myself discussed the state of the Bears franchise and previewed the offseason ahead in the 20th episode of our Bears Wire podcast.
