Staying busy amid a pandemic, the Bruins signed another member of their 2017 draft class on Monday, inking Swedish defenseman Victor Berglund to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Drafted in the seventh round with the 195th overall pick in 2017, Berglund has spent the last four seasons with MODO, totaling 15 goals and 43 points in 151 games. 2019-20 featured Berglund's best numbers to date, too, with career-best marks in goals (10), assists (12), points (22), and plus-minus (plus-18) in 52 games.
And with Berglund signed, Don Sweeney's Bruins have officially taken care of their entire 2017 draft class.
The club's first two picks of that draft, Urho Vaakanainen (18th overall) and Jack Studnicka (53rd overall), are already in the pro ranks and spent the 2019-20 season with Providence, while fourth-round pick (111st overall) and U. Maine goaltender Jeremy Swayman signed his deal earlier this spring. The club also opted not to sign sixth-round pick Cedric Pare (173rd overall) and seventh-round selection Daniel Bukac (204th overall) when their rights expired.
A right-shot defender, Berglund's signing is Boston's third defensive addition during the shutdown, joining Nick Ahcan and Nick Wolff, and gives the Bruins five P-Bruins defensemen signed for 2020-21. That's with youngsters Jakub Zboril and Wiley Sherman up for new deals as restricted free agents, too, and with veteran Alex Petrovic a pending unrestricted free agent.
