| Steve Bing, Producer and Film Financier, Dies at 55 - Yahoo Singapore News Posted: 23 Jun 2020 01:20 AM PDT Steve Bing, Producer and Film Financier, Dies at 55 - Yahoo Singapore News   Steve Bing, a Hollywood producer, writer and financier who famously invested in the Tom Hanks movie "The Polar Express," has died. He was 55. A spokesperson for the L.A. County Coroner's Office told TheWrap that the office responded to a death located in the 10000 block of Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, and the man was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. According to TMZ, which was the first to report the news of Bing's death. The LAPD and L.A. County Coroner's Office would not confirm the identification of the deceased or the cause of death. The owner of the building, however, confirmed to TheWrap that the deceased was Bing. An individual who knew Bing said he had been depressed and acting bizarrely of late. He was currently filming an Untitled Jerry Lee Lewis Documentary. He was also a big investor in "The Polar Express," the animated feature featuring the voice of Tom Hanks. Bing is also the founder of Shangri-La Entertainment, which focuses on property, construction, entertainment and music. Its latest credit is 2017's "Kingsman: The Golden Circle." Bing also financed films like Robert Zemeckis' "Beowulf" and Martin Scorsese's "Shine A Light." Bing was born on March 31, 1965. He received an estimated $600 million inheritance when he turned 18, from his grandfather and real estate developer Leo S. Bing. He dropped out of Stanford University to pursue a career in Hollywood and also contributed millions of dollars to Democratic political causes — in 2012, he contributed $30 million to the Motion Picture & Television Fund. The news broke yesterday (June 22) after the ex-couple released a statement through their lawyers about their divorce. The statement read: "To those who are concerned about us, we regret to inform you about this news. We were unable to overcome our differences and decided to get a divorce. We've tried very hard, but we couldn't resolve it, and filed for divorce last year. We decided to finalise it this year during the children's summer vacation. "Though we won't be husband and wife in the future, we will still be the parents of our children. The children will not lose the love from either of us because of our divorce." They added: "We ask that the public not speculate on the reason of our divorce as it'll hurt the children. We also ask that they not disturb our family and friends. Actress Deepika Padukone found a spot on the list of trends on Tuesday after her comment pulling down a paparazzo for posting a (now deleted) video of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput's family arriving at a Mumbai crematorium for the actor's last rites went viral, reported several websites including Hindustan Times and DNA. Sharing the video, the paparazzo added a disclaimer in the caption, which read, "Please note my images and videos cannot be posted on any platforms without my written consent." To this, Deepika Padukone, who earlier urged the media and paparazzi to cover updates around Mr Rajput's death sensitively, replied: "Right. But it is OK for you to take this video and not only post it but also probably monetise it without his or his family's written consent?" Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14. He was 34. The police say that the actor died by suicide. An investigation is underway and the police will also probe into allegations that the actor was suffering from depression because of professional rivalry. Deepika Padukone, who battled depression and spoke about it in 2015, has long been an advocate for mental health awareness campaigns. She also started the Live Love Laugh foundation to create awareness about mental health. After Mr Rajput's death, she shared a post on Instagram which read, "As a person who has had a lived experience with mental illness, I cannot stress enough about the importance of reaching out. Talk. Communicate. Express. Seek help. Remember, you are not alone. We are in this together. And most importantly, there is hope." She also shared several posts busting myths about mental health on Instagram. Deepika Padukone was last seen in Chhapaak. Her next film will be the Hindi remake of Hollywood film The Intern. REUTERS/Angus Mordant Markets were spooked by surprise comments from White House trade adviser Peter Navarro saying the hard-won deal was "over", though assurances from President Donald Trump later that the agreement was fully intact soothed jangled nerves. Brent crude fell 10 cents, or 0.2%, to $42.98 a barrel by 0649 GMT, after earlier skidding to a session low of $42.21. U.S. oil was down 16 cents, or 0.4%, at $40.57 a barrel, having dropped to a low of $39.76. U.S.-China relations have reached their lowest point in years since the coronavirus pandemic that began in China hit the United States hard. President Trump and his administration have repeatedly accused Beijing of not being transparent about the outbreak. Prices had slid suddenly after Navarro told Fox News in an interview that the trade deal with China was "over", linking the breakdown in part to Beijing not sounding the alarm earlier about the outbreak of the coronavirus. He later issued a statement saying that he had been "speaking to the lack of trust" in the Chinese administration, the comments had been "taken wildly out of context" and the trade deal remains in place. In New York, streets were clogged with traffic as the worst affected city in the United States emerged from more than 100 days of lockdown. Tensions in the Middle East also lent some support to oil prices. Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi movement carried out a "large-scale attack" deep in Saudi Arabia, the movement's Al Masirah television said on Tuesday, without elaborating. The Saudi-led coalition battling the group for five years said it had intercepted a ballistic missile fired by the Houthis towards Riyadh, the Saudi capital, on Tuesday. On the supply side, meanwhile, U.S. and Canadian oil and gas drillers cut the number of rigs they are operating to a record low. That leaves them with a steep slope to scale towards recovery in output even with higher prices to spur them on. "U.S. onshore production has now given up two full years of (volume) gains," said Stephen Innes, chief global markets strategist, at AxiCorp. "It supports the market supposition that even with a rebound in price, the capital investment that had already been tapering off in Q1 isn't flowing back quickly." Despite the fact that his rambling speech was actually… kinda boring… the biggest mess of Trump's rally was the fact that so few people turned up. The Bok Centre, which has a capacity of just under 20,000, and there were plenty of photos of empty seats in the crowd. This was even more cringeworthy because both Trump's campaign manager Brad Parscale and his press secretary Kayleigh McEnany had bragged that they had received more than one million requests for tickets. So what happened?It's been suggested on social media that Trump's team were fooled by teenagers on TikTok and K-pop fans who were mocking the president by reserving tickets for themselves but had no intention of turning up. They've also tried so blame the lack of attendance on counter-protesters outside the venue, but seeing as there's long been protests outside Trump rallies this doesn't exactly seem like a great excuse. So, bizarrely (even for 2020) it seems that teen K-pop stans have delivered a huge blow to the president of the United States. What are people saying about it?Naturally there's been lots of reaction to Trump's big fail. Pink, who played the Bok Centre in 2018, claimed that she sold out the venue in just under five minutes. Jack Antonoff said the same about Carly Rae Jepsen and others shared images from a Lorde and Christina Aguilera concert in the same arena. The news that K-pop fans might have dealt a major blow to Trump's ego has shocked the internet. CNN reports that TikTok user Mary Jo Laupp started this campaign after she posted a video encouraging people to get tickets and leave Trump alone in the arena. Images and videos have since appeared online from teenagers who claimed to have had tickets to the rally confirmed with no intention of actually attending. Trump's campaign manager got a bit defensive and tried to say that protesters outside the building put people off attending. But so far we've not heard anything from Trump himself. Apparently he's 'furious', though, and so is Ivanka, so we're sure some tweets will soon follow... There's also the fact that there was unlimited registration for the rally so perhaps people just... didn't turn up? That'll terrify Trump more than anything. This development was revealed during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2020 online event where a lot of announcements were made and details were shared about the upcoming next iteration of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and more. While this particular feature was not detailed during the event, it was part of the slides showing off all the new features in the new operating system. During the keynote, Apple detailed a lot of the new features coming to iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, as well as shared information about the upcoming macOS 11 Big Sur. One announcement that sort of went under the radar was the ability to set a default browser and email app on iPhones and iPads. With iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, users will be able to set a default app for their browser and email that will not have to be Safari or Apple Mail app. This means users will now be able to click on a link and have it open in Chrome, Firefox or any other browser app that they like, instead of having to use Safari by default. Similarly, with emails, users will now be able to use Gmail or Outlook to open email links by default. Apple's iOS 14 Preview page mentions in the Settings section, "Set a default web browser and email app that launch when you click a link or want to compose a new mail message." Additionally, as per a report by The Verge, underlying browsing engine for third-party browsers will still need to be Apple's WebKit. So, while the core functioning will be the same as Safari (based on WebKit), user interface and syncing options of third party browsers will be unique. iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 public beta is coming soon, as per Apple's website. Ronaldo slotted a first-half penalty down the middle in Juve's 2-0 win over Bologna, a result that saw the Bianconeri move four points clear at the top of the table. The goal was Ronaldo's 22nd in Serie A this season, one more than the 21 he managed in his debut campaign in Turin following his move from Real Madrid in 2018. | Actress and Activist Cara Santana Launches Direct-to-Consumer Brand - WWD Posted: 22 Jun 2020 09:48 PM PDT  Cara Santana has a new breakthrough role. The 34-year-old actress, activist and entrepreneur is partnering with Reunited Clothing to launch a direct-to-consumer fashion collection under the actresses' name. The new brand, which will be available exclusively at TheCaraSantanaCollection.com, launches June 25 with the summer 2020 collection. Manufactured in China, the brand will be priced under $100 per item. "I really wanted to play with color and create pieces that could fit simply into a woman's already established wardrobe," Santana said in a telephone interview from Los Angeles. The collection consists of such styles as slipdresses, suits, outerwear and trenchcoats in sizes 0 to 18. Everything is named after commonly heard micro aggression phrases such as "You're so much prettier when you smile," or "Toughen up," or "You need to lighten up, "Keep it classy," and "Just relax." According to Santana, it wasn't difficult to keep the pieces under $100 and she's very pleased with the quality. "Where my experience is lacking in production and manufacturing, they (Reunited) do it well. I didn't want to compromise on our quality.…They made it so we didn't have to, and we could make it accessible to the majority of women," Santana said. Santana is working directly with Hilda Batayneh, executive creative director of Reunited Clothing, to design the line. "Collaborating with Reunited Clothing has been a dream. They completely understood my creative vision and my desire to empower women with stylish and affordable fashion choices," she said. Last fall, Santana and Reunited had a fashion collaboration with Kohl's Apt. 9 line, which was successful. That collaboration was expected to continue for two additional seasons. "We had every intention of expanding the contract but obviously COVID-19 hit," Santana said. The deal ended after one season. "I just thought with all the uncertainty, and the ever-evolving changes in the fashion industry, and being a woman specifically, it's so important that we take control of our own lives and not be so reliant on corporate structure and the larger patriarchal society, and I thought to myself, 'Why can't I do this on my own?'" For her new online business, Santana has already designed fall and holiday collections with Reunited. As for how frequently she'll offer new collections, she said, "This is the first time we've done this. We're sort of testing the market and seeing how interested people are in direct-to-consumer fashion and also from an emerging designer. Depending on how this goes, that will influence and dictate what we do in the future." She's also thinking about expanding the business into a lifestyle brand with additional categories. When she's in the design process, she'll devote between 20 and 40 hours a week to design, Santana said. Not having a design background didn't seem to be a detriment. Having grown up in El Paso, Tex., a small border town across from Mexico, she said the only place she had to shop was Kohl's. "I didn't see anyone who looked like me in the ads. As an actress, I was always interested in self-expression, and the first element of self-expression is your aesthetic. Fashion was always something I loved to experiment with and communicate through," she said. When Kohl's originally approached her about doing a line, she thought about what she could offer because she doesn't have a design background. What spoke to her from her background was creating accessible and affordable fashion for all women. "There is such a void. We're in such a really interesting social environment right now where we're seeing the lack of representation and inclusion," she said. She developed the collection for Kohl's and this direct-to-consumer collection to really showcase diversity and inclusion, and the collection reflects her youth in El Paso, growing up in a diverse and multicultural environment. She said she's targeting women between the ages of 25 and 35. "It's for young women starting in the workforce, coming out of college, living independently," she said. She added that the line is designed for a versatile woman, whether she's at home or in a work environment. She said the collection can take one from day to night and transition from home to work to out in the evening. "We have some comfy, comfort clothes and we also have some suit wear and some cool outerwear. I really do believe there's something for everyone," she added. Describing her own personal style, she said, "I would describe my own style as comfortable, fashion forward, feminine and strong. I'm a chameleon. I'm someone who likes to take risks with my fashion choices. I think that comes from being an actress and wanting to express myself." Santana just wrapped up her third and final season of the Starz's series, "Vida." She is busy producing two different projects about addiction and social media influencers, as well as developing an unscripted series about her hometown, El Paso and immigration reform. Santana will all be partnering with Step Up, a nonprofit that assists young girls in under-resourced communities. Ten percent of proceeds from the collection will benefit the organization. "I am asking all women to #PayItFashionForward with a call to action to donate clothing from their closet directly or though a local organization. Giving back and supporting each other as a community is an integral part of this collection," Santana said. Santana cofounded and was chief executive officer of TheGlamApp, an on-demand mobile beauty app which brings hair, makeup and nail artists to the homes of their clients. | TikTok Users, K-Pop Fans Say They Helped Sabotage Trump's Comeback Rally - Gadgets 360 Posted: 22 Jun 2020 08:08 PM PDT  TikTok users and fans of Korean pop music took partial credit for inflating attendance expectations at a less-than-full arena at President Donald Trump's first political rally in months, held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday. Social media users on platforms including the popular video-sharing app have said they completed the free online registration for the rally with no intention of going. Prior to the event, Trump's campaign manager Brad Parscale said there had been more than one million requests to attend. However, the 19,000-seat BOK Center arena had many empty seats on Saturday evening and Trump and Vice President Mike Pence cancelled speeches to an expected "overflow" area outside. The Tulsa Fire Department tallied the crowd at about 6,200 people. Trump's campaign advisers had seen the rally as a way to rejuvenate his base and demonstrate support when opinion polls have shown him trailing his Democratic rival, former vice president Joe Biden. Oklahoma has reported a surge in new coronavirus cases, and the state's department of health had warned those planning on attending the event that they faced an increased risk of catching the virus. The Trump campaign said entry was on a 'first-come-first-served' basis and no one was issued an actual ticket. "Leftists always fool themselves into thinking they're being clever. Raq, a 22-year-old student and Democratic voter in Minnesota who only wanted to be identified by her nickname, said a key reason she took part was that the rally was in Tulsa, the site of the country's bloodiest outbreaks of racist violence against Black Americans some 100 years ago. As of Monday evening stateside, Dow futures dropped 398 points, implying an opening drop of more than 300 points at the open on Tuesday. Futures on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 also pointed to a lower open for the two indexes. On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 153 points, or 0.6%. The S&P 500 also registered a gain, climbing 0.7%. The Nasdaq Composite was the outperformer, rising more than 1%, thank to helps from mega-cap technology companies. The close marks a record close of the technology heavy index, its 20th of the year. Shares of Apple ticked up 2.6% and shares of Microsoft rose nearly 3%. While stocks started the week on a strong foot, it came under thin trading. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY), which tracks the broader market index, traded more than 67 million shares on Monday. That's well below the ETF's 30-day volume average of 105.01 million. "The message today may be that the virus and the bull market can coexist," Jim Paulsen, chief investment strategist at the Leuthold Group, told CNBC. "Despite back to back days of Covid19 cases above 30,000 over the weekend and ongoing reports of hot spots, the stock market managed to post a strong gain. Market action seems to suggests that investors expect the economy to continue improving in the months ahead even though the country is likely to experience spotty or temporary spikes in the virus." The major U.S. stock averages are coming off their fourth weekly gain in five weeks. The number of newly confirmed coronavirus cases at home and abroad continues to increase, raising questions about economic recovery from the virus. The largest single-day increase in global coronavirus cases was recorded on Sunday, according to the World Health Organization, after more than 183,000 new cases were reported worldwide. The U.S. saw more than 36,000 new cases reported on Sunday after more than 30,000 new cases were reported on both Friday and Saturday, data compiled by Johns Hopkins University showed. Richards | AFP | Getty Images U.S. President Donald Trump will suspend the entry of certain foreign workers, a senior administration official said on Monday, a move the official said would help the economy, but which business groups strongly oppose. Trump will block the entry of foreign workers on H-1B visas for skilled workers and L-1 visas for workers being transferred within a company through the end of the year, the official said. Trump will also block seasonal workers on H-2B visas, with an exception for workers in the food service industry. Businesses including major tech companies and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have said the visa suspension would stifle the economic recovery after the damage done by the novel coronavirus pandemic. Critics of the measure say Trump is using the pandemic to enact his longstanding goal to limit immigration into the United States. The immediate effects of the proclamation will likely be limited, as U.S. consulates around the world remain closed for most routine visa processing. Trump is running for re-election on Nov. 3 and has made his tough immigration stance a central pitch to voters, although the coronavirus, faltering economy and nationwide protests over police brutality have overshadowed that issue in recent months. The visa suspension announced on Monday will open up 525,000 jobs for U.S. workers, the senior official said on a call with reporters, saying it was geared at "getting Americans back to work as quickly as possible." Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia will use the department's statutory authority to investigate abuse of the H-1B visa program, the senior official said. The Trump administration also finalized a regulation on Monday that will lift a requirement to process work permits for asylum seekers within 30 days, a move that will likely result in longer waits for work authorization. Trump also will renew an April proclamation that temporarily blocks some foreigners from permanent residence in the United States, the senior administration official said on Monday. The official said that proclamation freed up roughly 50,000 jobs for Americans. Trump rolled out new health-focused rules in March that allow for the rapid deportation of immigrants caught at the border and virtually cut off access to the U.S. asylum system. At the same time, he announced the land borders with Canada and Mexico would be closed to non-essential crossings, a measure that has been extended several times. Doug Rand, co-founder of Boundless, a pro-migrant group that helps families navigate the U.S. immigration system, said the fact that visas use to bring in foreign farmworkers — known as H-2As — were exempt signals that "big agriculture interests are the only stakeholder with any sway over immigration policy in this administration." Many other business groups were lobbying against a temporary visa ban before it was announced. "The immigration restrictionists would like us all to believe that every single company bringing over foreign-born workers is nefarious and just wants to bring in people who are underpaid," said Rand. | 城田優らワタナベエンタ所属タレントが若者に講義 - ニッカンスポーツ Posted: 22 Jun 2020 06:34 PM PDT  大手芸能事務所のワタナベエンターテインメントとワタナベエデュケーショングループが、5月28日より、ワタナベエンターテインメントに所属し各ジャンルで活躍するアーティストが自身の経験やノウハウを、ワタナベエデュケーショングループの学生に語る配信による新プロジェクト「ラボ」をスタートさせたことが22日、分かった。 ワタナベエデュケーショングループとはワタナベエンターテインメントカレッジ、ワタナベエンターテインメントスクール、ワタナベコメディースクール、渡辺高等学院などのワタナベエンターテインメントが運営する教育機関。 同機関では芸能界デビューに向けて、具体的なテクニックやメソッドの指導を通じてスキルを身につけ、演技などのエンターテインメントのレッスンを通じて表現することを学ぶことにより、セルフプロデュース能力やコミュニケーション能力を高めることを目指す。人間力を身につけ、芸能界だけではなく一般社会において活躍できる人材を育成している。 新プロジェクトは、アーティストたちから直接話を聞くことが、ワタナベエデュケーショングループの学生の成長に大いにつながることに加え、アーティスト自身にとっても自らの言葉で表現について語ることにより、自身の経験を振り返り、その中から多くの気づきや成長が見込める。双方で相乗効果が期待して生配信によりスタートした。 ワタナベエデュケーショングループ理事長で株式会社ワタナベエンターテインメント渡辺ミキ代表取締役社長は「芸の道は、一生が学びの時間です。ワタナベエンターテインメントのラボでは、プロフェッショナルの表現者が、この道の後輩達に、自分が今までの軌跡を通じてつかみ取ったモノを、学生達と共に、『表現とは何か？』『自分とは何か？』を一緒に考えることで、エンターテインメントの本質を探ります」とプロジェクトを説明。「04年よりワタナベエンターテインメントは、表現を学ぶ事を通して、若者が文化的な人間として幸せな自己実現を果たせるように、研さんを積んできました。この真摯（しんし）な探究は、エンターテインメント業界に限らず、さまざまな方々の人生の指針作りのヒントになるはずです」と意義を語った。 この取り組みを発信していくことで、このような世の中の状況下だからこそ、未来の自分探しをしている方々の人生を切り開く手助けになることも考えているという。表現する方法を学ぶことで芸能界にとらわれず社会に貢献し、活躍できる人材をより多く輩出するための教育活動の重要な一環となるよう、ワタナベエンターテインメントとワタナベエデュケーショングループがより密な連携を取り、一体となって取り組んでいく。 プロジェクトに参加した城田優（34）は「講義自体初めてだったのにもかかわらず、オンラインということもあり、正直どこまで届いているのか、ちゃんと伝わったのか不安なのですが、、（笑い）」といいつつ「とにかく、自分の話を聞いて、ほんの少しでも"夢をつかむための時間"を見直せたり、僕なりに込めた"エール"がしっかり届いていればいいなと思います。次回は面と向かって、実演なども交えつつ、エンターテイナーらしい講義がしたいですね」と意気込んだ。 同じく参加した中川翔子（35）は「自分自身の芸能活動を振り返って、好きなことが武器になるというお話しさせていただきました」と振り返った。続けて「自分が見てきた本や映画、ハマってきたことなどが、将来の自分を助けてくれると思います。ガンガンいこうぜ！ 命大事に。で夢に向かっていってください」と呼びかけた。 お笑いトリオ、ハナコの秋山寛貴（28）は「大変貴重な経験をさせて頂きました。伝え方として反省も多いですが、話すことで思い出すことや改めて考えさせられることがあり、教える立場にも学びが多かったです」。そして「この講義に参加してくれた方々にまたどこかで会える日を楽しみに、精進していきたいと思います」と決意を示した。岡部大（31）も「こちらからの一方通行なものと想定していたのですが、画面越しに皆さんの学ぶ姿勢や熱意が伝わってきて、授業を通して僕の方がすごく刺激を受けました！ 60分あっという間だったので、またぜひとも一緒にコントのお話をできればと思います！」と刺激を受けた様子を示した。 "エンターテインメント" - Google ニュース June 22, 2020 at 06:00PM https://ift.tt/3eoumr6 城田優らワタナベエンタ所属タレントが若者に講義 - ニッカンスポーツ "エンターテインメント" - Google ニュース https://ift.tt/2W81riD Shoes Man Tutorial Pos News Update Meme Update Korean Entertainment News Japan News Update  |
