| Soares yet to agree Arsenal extension & could leave without playing a game - Goal.com Posted: 12 Jun 2020 03:42 AM PDT  Arsenal have yet to agree a short-term deal with Cedric Soares which would see him remain at the club until the end of the prolonged Premier League season. Soares joined the Gunners on loan from Southampton in January but has yet to play for the north London club. The right-back was brought in as cover for Hector Bellerin, but arrived with a knee injury, which Arsenal hoped would only see him ruled out for around three weeks. However, his recovery was not as quick as expected and the 28-year-old hadn't featured by the time the Premier League was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Soares has now shaken off the knee problem, but he hasn't played any part in either of Arsenal's two friendlies during the past week, against Charlton and Brentford. He was ruled out of both games after suffering a nasty facial injury when a ball hit him in the face during training, causing severe swelling around his nose and his left eye. Arsenal opted against risking the Portugal international, who has been wearing a mask to protect his nose following the incident, and it is not yet clear whether he will be fit enough to feature when the Gunners travel to Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday night, or the games against Brighton and Sheffield United the following week. Should he miss those games, it means Soares could leave the Gunners without playing a single game for the club as his loan is due to expire on June 30. A short-term deal has yet to be agreed and although Arsenal, who have seven league games to play after June 30 as well as two potential fixtures in the FA Cup, are hopeful of an agreement, Soares must weigh up the risks involved in playing games beyond that date due to the fact he becomes a free agent this summer. It's a similar situation to that of Ryan Fraser at Bournemouth. The Scotland winger is also out of contract this summer and has already informed the Cherries he will not sign a short-term extension which would allow him to play beyond June 30 for fear of potentially picking up an injury and damaging his chances of a lucrative transfer to a bigger club. Arsenal paid Southampton a loan fee of just under £1 million for Soares in January and agreed to cover his wages, believed to be around £65,000 a week, for the rest of the campaign. At the time of signing the right-back, Gunners technical director Edu said: "I know he is a player who plays with absolute full commitment and energy. Advertising The number of infections increased by 10,956 on Friday from the previous day and the death toll reached 8,498, India's ministry of health and family welfare said. The death toll increased 396 in the past 24 hours. India's number of confirmed coronavirus cases is behind only the United States, Brazil and Russia. The country's two-month lockdown kept transmission low but in a large population of 1.3 billion, people remain susceptible and the campaign against the virus is likely to go on for months, Balram Bhargava, director-general of the Indian Council of Medical Research, said. India's lockdown was imposed nationwide in late March but has eased since, and it is now largely being enforced in high-risk areas. The spiking caseload came after India allowed reopening of shops, shopping malls, manufacturing and religious places. Subway, schools, colleges and movie halls, however, remain shuttered nationwide. Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai are the worst-hit cities in the country, and Bhargava said urban residents have greater chance of contracting the virus. The launch event was earlier delayed because of the protests taking place across the United States after the death of George Floyd. The latest Sony console comes in two variants, one is a standard edition that comes with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive whereas the other is digital edition, which does not come with an optical disc drive.  PlayStation 5 standard and digital edition. PlayStation 5 designThe black and white themed console has a sleek vertical design. The two sides of the console are white in colour and the interiors are all black. It comes with USB-A and a USB-C port on the front, along with the blue LED lighting. The two consoles look almost the same when it comes to colour and design. To recall, the company had already announced the DualSense controller for PlayStation 5, back in April. The company is yet to reveal the pricing or the release date of the newly launched products. These details are expected to be revealed by the end of this year. The video shows a group of people scattered around an area. The person recording the video says he is being harassed because he installed an Indian flag in his house. The incident allegedly occurred in the Asalatpura area which falls under Galshaheed Police Station, Moradabad. The Logical Indian received the video on the fact check number. The claim attached to the video says this is an incident from Asalatpura area of Moradabad where a man was opposed and beaten by the people living in his street for putting tricolour, India's pride and dignity, on his house. A strict police action should be taken against those who are these treacherous people and sedition case should be filed against them.  The claim has been shared several times on Facebook.  A man was harassed by his neighbours for installing the Indian flag in his house. Fact Check:The claim is false. On following the comments of one such viral post, it was found that a Twitter user had tagged the official account of the UP police. The UP Police had responded by tagging the official account of the Moradabad Police and had asked them to look into the matter. The Moradabad Police after investigating the matter put out a statement saying that the claim is false. According to the statement, the Indian flag had been installed at that spot for several years now. It continues to be there still. The statement names a person called Shablu son Abul Kalam, who had originally posted the video. Shablu and his family used to tie their buffalos on the road. Shablu's cousin son Irshad faced issue while crossing the road and there was dispute between the two families with buffalos being kept on road. They also included a video where Abul Kalam himself states that he had put out a false notion because he was angry owing to a personal dispute. He also confesses that he himself had tattered his clothes and not his neighbours. Kalam reiterates that the Indian flag had been there for a while. Moradabad Police also posted a video showing the Indian flag mentioned in the video. A police case has been filed against both the parties for disturbing peace in the area. Therefore, the viral claims are false. The situation in the video occurred due to a personal dispute and has no communal claims. Last generation Microsoft and the Xbox brand weren't even in the race. So when it came time for Sony to finally reveal its next-generation console at its Future of Gaming event, Sony didn't rely on specs or cumbersome pipe dreams of making consoles the entertainment center of your living room. Sony just showed video games. Lots and lots of video games. Sony's PlayStation 5 showcase opened with Spider-Man Miles Morales and closed with Horizon Forbidden West, sequels to absolute corkers with established fan bases and critical acclaim. But sandwiched between those two heavyweights was a massive line-up of games revealed in a shotgun blast fashion so intense it was almost impossible to evaluate what we're actually in for. | Indonesia's hundreds of suspected child virus deaths highlight danger - WTVB News Posted: 11 Jun 2020 09:08 PM PDT  by By Stanley Widianto JAKARTA (Reuters) - Hundreds of children in Indonesia are believed to have died from COVID-19, giving the Southeast Asian country one of the world's highest rates of child deaths from the novel coronavirus that experts around the world say poses little danger to the young. Paediatricians and health officials in the world's fourth most populous country said the high number of child deaths from a disease that mostly kills the elderly was due to underlying factors, in particular malnutrition, anaemia and inadequate child health facilities. "COVID-19 proves that we have to fight against malnutrition," Achmad Yurianto, a senior health ministry official, told Reuters. He said Indonesian children were caught in a "devil's circle", a cycle of malnutrition and anaemia that increased their vulnerability to the coronavirus. He compared malnourished children to weak structures that "crumble after an earthquake". Since Indonesia announced its first coronavirus case in March it has recorded 2,000 deaths, the highest in East Asia outside China. A total of 715 people under 18 had contracted the coronavirus, while 28 had died, according to a health ministry document dated May 22 and reviewed by Reuters. It also recorded more than 380 deaths among 7,152 children classified as "patients under monitoring", meaning people with severe coronavirus symptoms for which there is no other explanation but whose tests have not confirmed the infection. Even the official figure for children who have died of the coronavirus, at 28 as of May 22, would give Indonesia a high rate of child death, at 2.1% of its total. Different countries use different age brackets in statistics but deaths for those under 24 in the United States are a little over 0.1% of its fatalities. In Brazil, the number of suspected COVID deaths under age 19 is 1.2%. In the Philippines, deaths of those under 19 are about 2.3% of its coronavirus toll. 'TRIPLE BURDEN' Indonesia, a developing country of 270 million, suffers from a "triple burden of malnutrition," which includes stunting, and anaemia among mothers, and obesity, according to the United Nations Children's Fund. Nearly one in three Indonesian children under five is stunted, it says. "The nutrition status impacts children's immunity," said Dr Nastiti Kaswandani, a paediatric pulmonologist in the capital, Jakarta. "That's important in mitigating COVID infections." Paediatricians said the ill-equipped healthcare system was also a problem. "The biggest discrepancy in Indonesia is the availability of paediatric intensive care units," said Shela Putri Sundawa, a paediatric doctor in Jakarta. The health ministry declined to provide data on care units for children and a senior official said the system had not been overwhelmed. Equipment shortages are more pronounced outside the capital. Paediatrician Dominicus Husada said a hospital he worked at on Madura island, in East Java, did not have ventilators for children. An 11-year-old died from the coronavirus there in March. It said although the national Case Fatality Rate (CFR) remains stable, 69 districts have high CFR. It warned the five most affected states — Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh — that going by current trends, they are projected to fall short in terms of ICU beds and ventilators between June and August. In Delhi, where the ruling AAP is locked in a war of words with the BJP and the central government over the mounting cases and capacity shortfall, projections show the city may already have run out of ICU beds on June 3, will run out of ventilators on June 12, and isolation beds with oxygen on June 25. This projection is part of a presentation made during a videoconference that Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba had with state chief secretaries and health secretaries. Tamil Nadu is expected to run out of ICU beds and ventilators by July 9, and isolation beds with oxygen on July 21.0 Similar projections were made for five other states/UTs — Haryana, Karnataka, J&K, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal – given the current trends there. They were told to ensure "sufficient hospital capacity through advance planning for next 2 months" and ready an action plan with major emphasis on the upgradation of the health system. The projections warn that 17 districts, including Gurugram, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Jalgaon, Chennai and Gautam Buddh Nagar, run the risk of capacity shortfall in the next one month if the current trend continues. These have been flagged for special attention to guard against complacency over improvement in the national doubling rate (16.9 days as against 14.1 days two weeks ago) and stable CFR (number of fatalities per 100 detected cases) at around 2.9 per cent as against 2.96 per cent a fortnight ago. Explained: Why asymptomatic cases matter The presentation pointed to the increase in confirmation rate from 4.87 per cent two weeks ago to 5.7 per cent. It said there were 46 districts across 13 states with a confirmation rate of more than 10 per cent as of June 9. "Increase in confirmation rate from 5.70 per cent from 4.87 per cent two weeks ago indicates either spread of infection or less testing. At the state level, three states have more than 10 per cent confirmation rate. (Maharashtra, Delhi, Telangana)," the presentation noted. "Mumbai and Thane in Maharashtra and Chennai in Tamil Nadu for instance have a higher confirmation rate than 20 per cent, while Palghar (Maharashtra), Medchal-Malkajgiri (Telangana) and Hojai (Assam) have more than 20 per cent confirmation rate in rural areas," the Centre told the states. Of these districts, 51 are concentrated in four states — Madhya Pradesh (21), UP (11), Maharashtra (10) and Gujarat (9). During the interaction, the issue of concentration of cases and fatalities was also highlighted. While six states — Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Bengal — constitute 76 per cent of all Covid-19 positive cases, it was underlined that 82 per cent of total deaths came from five states — Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The Cabinet Secretary drew attention to 30 "epicentre" districts that account for 72 per cent of the active case load and suggested "fatality mitigation" as an additional "urgent" focus area for them. "These epicentres are largely urban areas with more than 600 cases in the district. 23 districts are concentrated in four states of Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal. In these areas, fatality mitigation is an additional urgent focus area," the Centre said. The "dual testing gap"— testing bottlenecks in some urban areas and coverage gaps/long turnaround times for rural areas—was highlighted as another challenge. The presentation identified two key trends—of the infection moving eastward and the new districts affected, as well as the increase in case load after lifting of restrictions on May 18. "98 districts have been infected in the past three weeks. Significant spread in North Eastern states since 53 of these districts are from there. Significant spread in eastern states—Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal account for 25 recently infected districts," it said. Defining "emerging districts of concern" as those which have more than 400 cases of which 50% were observed after May 18, the presentation said these were concentrated mainly in seven states: Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Karnataka, J&K and Haryana. "Four districts which have more than 400 cases—of which over 90 per cent have been after May 18—are Gurugram, Udupi, Yadgir and Kolhapur," it said. The action plan recommended by the Cabinet Secretary includes containment, testing, tracing and health system upgradation. "Ensure hospital capacity through advance planning for the next two months. Ensure sufficient logistics (e.g. pulse oximeters) along with bed capacity and HR. Institutional quarantine/isolation is increasingly critical to reduce load on health system… need to ramp up institutional capacity (for examples, hotels and stadiums)." On fatality mitigation, it said: "Preventive measures and active surveillance/testing, especially for vulnerable population, to reduce high risk patient count and improve speed-to-care. Treatment initiatives to ensure lower fatality rate, for example preferring hospitalization for co-morbid/elderly patients, timely referrals on escalation of symptoms, improving clinical practice via Centres of Excellence, providing on-call care etc." 📣 The Indian Express is now on Telegram. | Mexican directors, actress create fund for cinema workers - Minneapolis Star Tribune Posted: 11 Jun 2020 08:48 PM PDT  MEXICO CITY — Oscar-winning Mexican directors Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu joined actress Salma Hayek to set up a fund to help support movie industry workers out of work due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Mexican Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences announced the fund Thursday. González Iñárritu spoke via a video call. "This was an act of solidarity with our colleagues in this industry, without asking anybody else besides ourselves," González Iñárritu said. The fund has raised about $440,000 so far, and more donations are expected. Each beneficiary will get a one-time payment of about $885. The money will go first to technical workers like set, costume, sound and visual employees left without work after most productions stopped filming amid the pandemic. First in line will be those who are suffering health problems or who are sole breadwinners. La Corriente del Golfo, a company founded by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, also contributed to the fund, as did many other Mexican and international production companies. The Academy estimates that about 30,000 movie production workers have lost their incomes as a result of the industry shut-down. The government and industry leaders have not announced any date for resuming production.
