Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse football defensive back Allen Stritzinger has submitted his name into the transfer portal, a source told The Post-Standard/syracuse.com.
A senior, Stritzinger becomes the most experienced Orange player to officially explore other options this offseason. Linebacker Juan Wallace has committed to joining Kent State while linebacker Kadeem Trotter is also in the portal.
Stritzinger appeared in 29 games over the last three seasons, serving as a reserve corner/nickel from 2018-19 after starting his college career at running back. A Detroit native, Stritzinger logged 27 tackles over the last two seasons and made a highlight interception in SU’s Camping Bowl World victory two years ago.
This spring, Stritzinger was listed as the second-team Rover in first-year defensive coordinator Tony White’s 3-3-5 system. The Orange only got three practices in before campus shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Stritzinger was expected to compete for a starting job this fall as SU’s defensive backs must replace starting corner Christopher Fredrick, starting safety Evan Foster and key reserve Antwan Cordy. And he still could. Any player who enters the transfer portal remains eligible to remove their name and remain at their current program.
CuseNation.com first reported the news.
Cherry also in portal
Syracuse walk-on wide receiver James Cherry has also entered the transfer portal, he announced on Twitter.
A redshirt sophomore, Cherry appeared in two games last year and traveled to all road games. He joins Kevin Johnson Jr. as offensive players to explore transferring from SU this offseason. Johnson has updated his Twitter bio to indicate that he attends Florida.
