All players are eligible for the NLL Draft after exhausting or forfeiting their NCAA eligibility. However, due to the cancellation of the spring 2020 season due to COVID-19, all NCAA student-athletes who have exhausted their four seasons of eligibility and elect to return for a fifth NCAA season are rendered eligible for selection.
A senior attackman from Massapequa, New York, Tierney was selected 82nd overall and with the second pick in the sixth and final round by the Riptide after acquiring the pick from the Rochester Knighthawks. He joins several other players taken in the 2020 Draft by the Long Island-based franchise entering its second season of competition.
Since his first season in a Hofstra uniform in 2017, Tierney has established himself as one of the top goalscorers in Hofstra history. He moved into second all-time in goals at Hofstra (121) and currently sits fifth in points scored (186). Tierney received All-America Honorable Mention honors by Inside Lacrosse for the shortened 2020 season, and has twice been named All-CAA First Team. Tierney will return to Hofstra to use his fifth season of eligibility in 2021.
