Individual pass is good for one person for the day.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has announced that 16 parks have been added to its $4 individual daily pass program, joining 16 other parks that have been part of the program since 2019.
The $4 individual daily pass allows hikers and bikers to enter state parks for a discounted fee. The non-vehicle entry fee is now a requirement at most of Colorado's 42 state parks. According to CPW, the fee is part of spreading park maintenance across all users and making the fee system more consistent across the state.
“Increased visitation and use have put a greater demand on our natural resources, services, and the facilities we provide to our visitors,” said Lathrop State Park Manager Stacey Koury in an announcement. “Our pedestrians and bikers are stewards of our resources, and CPW appreciates their contribution to taking care of our parks.”
State parks now requiring the fee for non-vehicle entry include Castlewood Canyon, Eleven Mile, Golden Gate Canyon, Jackson Lake, John Martin Reservoir, Lathrop, Mancos, Mueller, Navajo, North Sterling, Ridgway, Roxborough, Paonia, Spinney Mountain, Staunton, and St. Vrain.
These parks join those that started the program in November of 2019: Barr Lake, Crawford, Elkhead Reservoir, Harvey Gap, Highline Lake, James M. Robb – Colorado River, Pearl Lake, Rifle Gap, Rifle Falls, Stagecoach, Steamboat Lake, Sweitzer Lake, Sylvan Lake, Trinidad Lake, Vega, and Yampa River.
“All outdoor recreation has a human impact and the new pass will help disperse some of the costs we have at Lathrop,” said Koury. “It won’t just be people in vehicles carrying the costs for everybody.”
Passes can still be bought at each park, as well as online, and are only for those participating in non-vehicle entry. Existing park fees still apply for daily vehicle entries and annual passes.
You can learn more about the $4 fee and other park pass options on the CPW website.
