NEW PERIVIDENCE, NJ - The Grotta Fund for Senior Care, which is administered through the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ, has provided a grant to The Our House Foundation in support of its Day Service Re-Entry Plan.

More than 100 adults with disabilities participate in Our House day programs, of which 15% of them are considered older adults. Our House was forced to suspend their day service programs in March when the pandemic hit, and immediately virtual programming was put into place to help keep participates connected, engaged and active.

When the Division of Development Disabilities (DDD) gave the green light for congregate day programs to reopen with restrictions, Our House staff executed a re-entry plan they had been working on in anticipation for that day to arrive. On October 5, Day Services opened for in-person services.

One of the many re-entry plan restrictions included the use of personal protective furniture. This furniture includes height adjustable tables, one per client, as well as protective partitions.

“We are so grateful to The Grotta Fund for their financial support of the older adults with disabilities that we serve. The funding from The Grotta Fund supported the purchase of this protective furniture, special sanitizing equipment and supplies as well as the cost to offer virtual music, Yoga and dance," said Dawn Knill, Our House Foundation Director of Development. "Like many agencies, these expenses are not yet in our normal operating budget, therefore these funds were key in helping us provide this important programming.”

Founded in 1980, Our House, Inc. is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides residential, employment, day program, and recreational services to more than 300 individuals with developmental disabilities. Our first home opened in 1980 in Summit, and has grown to 31 locations throughout Union, Essex, Somerset, Middlesex and Morris Counties.
