Jaylen Warren is in the transfer portal.
According to reports from 247Sports’ Chris Hummer and Rivals, Utah State’s senior running back has decided to leave Logan and play his final college football season elsewhere.
Utah State RB Jaylen Warren is in the portal, 247Sports has learned. He leads the Aggies with 252 rushing yards and 3 TDs this season. He ran for 569 yards and 5 TDs in 2019. https://t.co/9q5hAlqFgn

The reports confirmed the many rumors that swirled around the Aggies’ program after Warren was unavailable for USU’s victory over New Mexico on Thanksgiving.
A native of Salt Lake City, Warren has had success at every level of football at which he has played. During his prep career, he was a star for the East High Leopards, a record-breaking back and the Deseret News’ 2016 Mr. Football.
From there he went to Snow College. As a sophomore in 2018, Warren had a breakout season. He racked up 1,435 yards rushing, led the nation (NJCAA ranks) with 159.4 yards per game, ranked second with an average of 8.6 yards per carry and third with 15 touchdowns scored.
Warren was named the 2018 NJCAA National Offensive Player of the Year and an NJCAA first-team All-American after helping lead the Badgers to an 8-3 record and No. 9 national ranking.
Warren joined Utah State in 2019, becoming a key cog in the Aggies’ rushing attack, along with Gerold Bright. Despite nagging injuries, he played in 12 games last season and finished second on the team in rushing with 569 yards and five touchdowns. He became the first Aggie ever to rush for 100 yards in his USU debut and in back-to-back games to start a career.
Entering this year, Warren was expected to be USU’s lead back, a bell cow if you will.
“Jaylen is the main guy, obviously,” former Utah State head coach Gary Andersen told the Deseret News this past spring. “He has the most experience.”
Warren didn’t disappoint in the role. In three games played this season (Warren missed USU’s loss to San Diego State and win over New Mexico) he rushed for 252 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 6.3 yards per carry.
After his outing against Fresno State, when Warren totaled a season-high 136 yards and a score, Utah State interim head coach Frank Maile said of the senior, “He is a tough kid, mentally tough. He’s a beast.”
Warren is the fourth USU starter to enter the transfer portal this season, following in the wake of Troy Lefeged Jr., Deven Thompkins and Tobias “Cash” Gilliam.
Warren has one remaining season of eligibility remaining.
Also Monday, redshirt sophomore linebacker Maika Magalei was also reported by Rivals to have entered the transfer portal.
2017 LB Maika Magalei has entered the portal as a grad transfer after totaling 21 tackles and 3 sacks during his time at Utah State @rivalsmike @RivalsWoody

A native of Lakewood, Washington, Magalei joined the Utah State program in 2017 and as a freshman and played in 13 games, starting three. Magalei then redshirted the 2018 season, appearing in four total games, after which he missed almost the entire 2019 season due to injury.
Magalei totaled 21 tackles and three sacks as an Aggie and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
