Biden picks up small number of votes in Milwaukee County after Trump-requested recount - CNN

Posted: 27 Nov 2020 09:08 PM PST

The results showed a net gain of 132 votes for Biden, with President Donald Trump receiving 134,482 votes and Biden receiving 317,527 after the recount, the Milwaukee County Board of Canvassers announced Friday night.
But more than 27,000 ballots that are part of the count are being segregated after two objections by the Trump campaign.
The campaign objected to more than 25,000 absentee ballots cast by individuals who self-identified as "indefinitely confined," which allowed them to vote absentee because of pandemic fears.
The campaign also objected to 2,197 ballots that had been "cured," a legally allowed action in which an election official fills in a missing piece of information on a ballot envelope, often identified because the official did it in a different ink from the voter.
According to the Milwaukee County Clerk's office, the Trump campaign has signaled it will appeal the certification decision, based on the dispute over these segregated votes
The other county that is part of the state's recount, Dane, is expected to complete its recount in the next few days. The state must certify its results by Tuesday.
CNN has projected that Biden will win Wisconsin, flipping the state back to blue after Trump won it in 2016.

Guardiola rules out new Manchester City signings in January - Goal.com

Posted: 27 Nov 2020 08:42 PM PST

The Spaniard will not be making any additions to his player list when the transfer window opens even after their subpar start

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed the club will not be making any signings in the January transfer window despite their indifferent start to the Premier League season.

The Citizens are currently 14th on the Premier League table after their eight matches, and trail leaders Tottenham by eight points despite holding a game in hand.

Guardiola's side have only won three league contests, with defeats against Leicester City and Spurs, and draws versus Liverpool, West Ham and Leeds blotting their copybook.

There has been suggestion the Manchester giants will be looking to bolster their squad when the player movement period resumes in a month's time, but Guardiola denies the club will be pursuing reinforcements.

Goal 50 Revealed: The best 50 players in the world

"No, not at all. I have a fantastic team to fight for all the titles," Guardiola told Man City's official website.

The former Barcelona coach's belief in his squad depth was proved true by John Stones' performance in the mid-week win over Olympiacos in the Champions League.

The England international has found himself on the periphery of Manchester City's first team for most of the season, but showed Guardiola he has a part to play this campaign.

"The guys who play good, they continue to play," Guardiola said.

"The guys especially at the back who don't make mistakes - everyone makes mistakes - but the [guys who don't make] mistakes that cost a lot, they have more chance to continue in the team.

"And the guys up front who score goals, they have more chance to continue in the team. I try to judge players in the present. John [Stones] played very well, and I am especially happy for John because he is a special guy for me.

"We arrived here together, we spent lots of time together, he was injured and had personal issues but now he is settled again. He is confident. He will have chances to show his quality in this team."

Manchester City will attempt to catapult themselves up the Premier League table as they host Burnley at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Their next Champions League clash against Porto on Tuesday will be a dead rubber with the English side accumulating maximum points from their four matches to date and have secured qualification for the knockout stage already.

Appeals Court Rejects Trump's Challenge To Pennsylvania Vote Certification - NPR

The Trump legal team has suffered another loss in its continuing attempts to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election.

In a scathing opinion, a federal appeals court said Friday that a lower court acted properly when it threw out the Trump campaign's challenge to the certification of the election results in Pennsylvania.

"Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy," wrote Judge Stephanos Bibas, a former member of the Federalist Society whom Trump nominated to the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in 2017. "Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so."

The ruling caps a tumultuous November for the Trump campaign, which has seen virtually every legal challenge to the outcome of the presidential election tossed by the courts. Friday's decision upholds last week's dismissal of Trump's bid to delay vote certification in the state.

The Trump legal team has already signaled its intention to appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court. "The activist judicial machinery in Pennsylvania continues to cover up the allegations of massive fraud," said Trump's attorneys Jenna Ellis and Rudy Giuliani on Twitter. "On to SCOTUS!"

But a Supreme Court challenge isn't likely to succeed, according to former Acting U.S. Solicitor General Neal Katyal, a frequent advocate before the high court. "It's hard to imagine a stronger smackdown," Katyal said on Twitter. The Third Circuit "has totally destroyed Trump's claims in Pennsylvania," Katyal added, calling the ruling "devastating."

"I went to school with Judge Bibas," Katyal said. "He didn't suffer fools gladly then. He's very conservative, but that is the point: true conservatives see this lawsuit for what it is — a baseless attack on our democracy."

Bibas wrote that although the Trump team publicly condemns coverups and fraud, it didn't allege fraud in court. Rather, it objected to some restrictions placed on Republican poll watchers, as well as to the fact that some Pennsylvania counties let voters fix mail in ballots that had been filled in improperly.

And even if the Trump campaign were correct that some ballots were improperly counted, that wouldn't offset Biden's roughly 81,000 vote margin of victory, the court said.

"Tossing out millions of mail-in ballots would be drastic and unprecedented, disenfranchising a huge swath of the electorate and upsetting all down-ballot races too," Bibas wrote on behalf of a panel of three judges, all of whom were appointed by Republican presidents.

Neither state nor federal law determines how close a poll watcher need be, the court said. Nor does any law dictate how election officials should react if absentee voters fail to fill in their mail-in ballots perfectly. The appeals court commended the lower court for its "fast, fair, patient handling of this demanding litigation."

"Voters, not lawyers, choose the President," the court wrote. "Ballots, not briefs, decide elections."

Government scientists advise Britons to avoid singing, dancing and even BOARD GAMES at Christmas - Daily Mail

Posted: 27 Nov 2020 08:08 PM PST

Britons should steer clear of singing, dancing and even BOARD GAMES at Christmas and isolate for two weeks before and after the five-day 'bubble break', government scientists advise

  • Scientists advised Britons to not spend too long eating their festive dinner
  • People should consider using place names to avoid contamination at the table
  • Scientists said people would 'let their guard down with those they are closest to'

Tis not the season to be jolly... families were last night advised by Government scientists to steer clear of singing, dancing and even board games when they meet up this Christmas.

In bleak midwinter news for those who like to linger over their turkey and trimmings, Britons have also been recommended not to spend too long enjoying their festive dinner.

People should consider using place names to avoid contamination at the dinner table – and be on their guard when it comes to the washing up, says the scientific advisory committee Sage.

And they should consider self-isolating for two weeks both before and after the five-day 'Christmas bubble' break to minimise the risk of spreading the virus.

In a raft of documents yesterday, the scientists warned that any relaxation of restrictions over the festive period could result in a 'large rise' in transmission rates which could ultimately see prevalence of the virus 'easily double'.

The advice was revealed yesterday in documents that were discussed at meetings held between October 29 and earlier this week.

One document, titled Key Evidence and Advice on Celebrations and Observances during Covid-19, said: 'Avoid repeated and extended overnight stays.

'If possible and circumstances allow, self-quarantine for two weeks before and after visit.' It added that maintaining existing 'bubbles' rather than creating new ones could also help.

Professor Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance said on November 26 they want people to see their families 'because that is what Christmas is all about'

Separate documents, meanwhile, suggested families should implement a series of rules around the home – including who does the washing up. Scientists said those meeting up would 'let their guard down with those they are closest to'.

The elaborate guidance, which is from recommendations by Sage sub-committees but has not been formally adopted, suggested people should use place names to position themselves safely at the dinner table and reduce the use of shared serving spoons.

It said that meals should be kept as short as possible and that whoever is clearing up should be vigilant when putting dishes in the dishwasher.

Hugs, kisses and handshakes are best avoided, with gestures such as 'elbow bumps or air greetings' used instead.

It suggested families should be told to avoid board games in which objects are shared, advising non-contact entertainment such as quizzes.

In what may be a disappointment or relief, karaoke is not recommended – with singing and physical activities such as dancing to be shunned.

Anyone determined to undertake a festive singalong should reduce their volume, think about opening windows to prevent droplets from spreading and possibly even wear a facemask.

The guidance was compiled for Sage by the Environmental and Modelling Group and the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviours (SPI-B). It calls for bubbles to create a timetable setting out how they will interact, encouraging people to behave as though one of the group is infected.

Wherever possible, those in the central household should try to use a different bathroom from their visitors.

The document acknowledges that the guidance will be more difficult to follow for those in lower income groups and in smaller houses, and suggests assistance should be provided.

Papers also reveal that scientists raised concerns a Christmas 'amnesty' increases the risk that people stop taking the rules seriously afterwards.

A document from November 5 reads: 'If guidelines are relaxed for some festivals, some may reason that this can be applied to other celebrations.'

However, the scientists conceded that keeping strict rules in place over Christmas could become a source of anger, and it may result in celebrations turning into a 'site of resistance'.

They do point out that one of the main challenges when it comes to festive crackdowns will be enforcement, adding that policing behaviours in private homes is 'almost impossible'.

SAGE's Christmas warning: Covid cases could 'easily DOUBLE' over a few days if restrictions are eased between December 23 and 27, advisers claim

By Luke Andrews for MailOnline

Number 10's scientists issued a sobering warning to ministers that coronavirus cases could 'easily double' when lockdown is loosened for five days over Christmas.

In a report submitted to the Government on November 18, the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling (SPI-M) - which feeds into SAGE - said relaxing the rules 'will result in increased transmission and prevalence, potentially by a large amount'.

The group warned it might parallel what happened when universities and schools went back at the end of September, which has been blamed for causing the second wave of the epidemic.

In the official document, SPI-M added: 'Substantial mixing of people over a short period of time, especially those who do not make contact regularly during a month, represents a significant risk for wide-spread transmission.

'Other respiratory infections suggest that exposure of elder family members to respiratory disease is increased during a normal festive period. The prevalence could easily double during a few days of festive season, with further increases as new infections go back to their routine networks.'

It was announced this week that Britons from up to three different households will be allowed to mix indoors and stay overnight with each other between December 23 and 27.

The measures were given the go-ahead despite strong pushback from independent experts and scientists within the Government, who warn that January is already the toughest time of the year for the NHS.

Also in the document submitted by SPI-M, the group warned people vulnerable to coronavirus should not be left to do the Christmas clean-up. The scientists said elderly people and those with underlying health conditions should steer clear of doing house work over the festive period because cleaning surfaces, dishes and other people's clothes exposes them to a host of germs, and potentially Covid this year.

It comes as Briton recorded 16,022 new coronavirus cases today and 521 deaths, as infections continue to fall sharply and fatalities plateau. Today's infections mark a 20.9 per cent fall on the 20,252 last week and an 8.7 per cent drop from yesterday's 17,555.

The 521 deaths announced in the last 24 hours are 1.9 per cent higher than the 511 last Friday and 4.6 per cent above the 498 figure yesterday. Covid deaths lag two to three weeks behind the infections trend due to the time it takes for people to fall seriously ill with the disease. Experts anticipate deaths will finally start to tail off next month, after the country's second lockdown has ended.

A growing number of Tory MPs have been openly critical of the government's local lockdown tiers - although some have indicated they plan to abstain in a crunch vote next week rather than oppose the plan outright.

In other coronavirus news:

  • An official graph laying out coronavirus outbreaks across the country suggested there are parts of the North of England and Midlands that could be 'de-escalated' from Tier Two or Tier Three in January if they can continue to squash the disease;
  • Britain's R rate is now an estimated 0.9 to 1.0, which is the lowest estimate since the summer and means the country's coronavirus outbreak is likely shrinking;
  • SAGE has warned that a short break in social distancing rules over Christmas could lead to a doubling of Covid cases afterwards;
  • Pub rules will be so strict in Tier Two areas that customers - who will only be allowed in if they are buying a 'substantial meal' - must leave as soon as they have finished their food and they won't be permitted to keep drinking;
  • Chinese scientists are claiming the coronavirus originally came from India in summer 2019 and spread to humans because they drank from the same water as animals during a heatwave;
  • A top Government scientist said the MHRA has 'enough' data about how well Oxford's vaccine works in order to be able to approve it for public use;
  • Downing Street reportedly asked for AstraZeneca to package its coronavirus vaccine doses with the Union Jack printed on them, but the PM's office as since denied the claim;
  • All but three areas of England saw coronavirus infection rates decline in the week that ended November 22, Public Health England data show.

Just THREE local areas saw Covid rates rise last week

Only three local authorities in England saw their coronavirus  infection rates rise last week, official data showed- even though 99 per cent of the country will be plunged into Tier Two or Three lockdowns next week.

And more than half - 97 out of 149 - saw their numbers of Covid cases plummet by at least 25 per cent, according to Public Health England's weekly infection surveillance report.

Medway, East Sussex and Redbridge, in London, were the three authorities to see rises in Covid-19 infections, by 28.4 per cent, 5.2 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively, as lockdown restrictions entered their third week.

Department of Health officials claim the percentage change in Covid infection rates was used as a key criteria for determining the tiers, alongside pressure on the local NHS, total infection levels, cases in over 60s and proportion of tests that are positive for Covid-19.

But figures back up claims from furious MPs and some scientists that ministers - who have refused to reveal what the exact thresholds are for placing restrictions on certain areas - should have placed more local authorities into looser tiers because of rapidly tumbling infections.

Experts said they felt ministers had been 'cautious' in applying tiers because of an expected spike over Christmas but that, once the festive period was past, it was likely many areas would be moved to Tier Two.

It comes after the Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick suggested this morning that local authorities could be shifted down to Tier Two before Christmas, providing their case rates fell to low levels. And Boris Johnson today admitted the brutal new Tiers are 'frustrating' for low-infection areas - but refused to change course insisting the rules must be kept 'simple'.

And showing the second coronavirus wave has already peaked, the Cambridge University academics behind the gloomy 4,000 deaths-a-day estimate that spooked ministers into imposing a second national lockdown in the first place have revised their model to say that cases across England started declining last month.

The Prime Minister said he shared the frustrations of those in the highest tiers

The notes on the Christmas relaxation in measures were published today by the Department of Health, but are dated November 18.

The Government is considering imposing a 25-day lockdown after Christmas, giving five days of restrictions for every one day of relaxation to head off any further rise.

A senior Government source said this was 'not an exact figure' and that the five-day restrictions would only be needed if the Reproduction Rate or R - the number of people an infected person passes the virus to - rises to two.

'If R rose to 1.5 it would be about two to three days of restrictive measures to reverse,' they said.

'For comparison, R is believed to be one nationally. Christmas will be a spreading event.'

In the SPI-M document, the scientists also advised against leaving vulnerable people to do the housework over Christmas.

They said: 'Action to keep prevalence low before Christmas will reduce transmission during arelaxation period.'

In its set of recommendations, the SPI-M-O said the 'environment' families gather in will be crucial.

'With so many people in the home, it is important 'more vulnerable people [are] not left with a house to clean'.

Meanwhile, Public Health England revealed today a graph suggesting how tiers were allocated for different local authorities in England.

It shows that although most of the North of England and the Midlands are in Tier Three - with restaurants forced to go takeaway only - many areas are well on their way to loosening restrictions and entering the coveted Tier One.

Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire are already close to dropping into Tier Two thanks to falling infection rates.

And there were also rapid declines in South Yorkshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire which could stand them in good stead for the coming weeks.

The report reads: 'This chart shows some decreases in weekly case rates in the North of England, and other areas where case rates are high but declining.

'Continued improvement over the coming period may make these areas candidates for de-escalation in the New Year.'

SAGE today revealed the R rate has dropped for the third week in a row, and is now thought to be below one for the whole of the UK for the first time in three months.

A row broke out last night over the Government's tiering decision as MPs and members of the public in Tier Three areas were left in outrage.

They included the entirety of Kent, which has shifted from Tier One before the lockdown to Tier Three in response to surging local infections.

Damian Green, MP for Ashford in the county, warned he was 'highly concerned' about the dramatic downgrade yesterday and said ministers should publish detailed analysis on how their decision was made.

But Boris Johnson today refused to bow to pressure from 70 of his own MPs to change course, despite admitting they were 'frustrating' for people in areas with low transmission rates.

Speaking at the Porton Down laboratory site, the Prime Minister held out the prospect that some areas could see their status downgraded within weeks.

Mr Johnson said: 'I know it is frustrating for people when they are in a high tier area when there is very little incidence in their village or their area. I totally understand why people feel frustrated.'

He added: 'There really is the prospect of areas being able... to move down the tiering scale.'

Professor Paul Hunter, an infectious diseases expert at the University of East Anglia, told MailOnline today he felt the Government had been 'cautious' in applying the tiers due to an expected pre-Christmas surge in infections.

But he said that after the festive period many areas may be moved down the tiers.

The Department of Health today announced the new lockdown tiers that England will be divided into when the national lockdown ends on December 2

WHAT THE SAGE PAPERS ALSO SHOWED

Only HALF of infected people would be identified if the UK enforced a nationwide mass testing programme

One SAGE paper, created by a sub-group called SPI-M-O, looked at the impact of mass testing on squashing the coronavirus pandemic.

The goal of widespread testing of an entire population is not to reduce the R rate but to bring down the overall prevalence.

However, the theory of spotting every single infected person by testing everyone does not translate into the real world.

For example, the tests are not 100 per cent accurate, not everyone will willingly be tested and of those who are found to be positive, not all will self-isolate to snap the chain of transmission.

SAGE experts write: 'If the entire population were offered a single test with 70 per cent sensitivity, 80 per cent of infected people took up the offer and 90 per cent of people who tested positive completely isolated, around 50 per cent of infected people would not be isolated.'

The experts say that a slightly more focused approach to mass testing would be more effective.

They say more frequent testing of people who are at higher risk of being infected (such as key workers, health and people in high prevalence areas) is likely to have a bigger impact than infrequent testing of everyone.

Young people should wait until AFTER Christmas to socialise

SAGE academics warn it is crucial adherence to coronavirus restrictions are followed when restrictions are eased on December 23.

Household bubbles, as permitted over the festive season by Boris Johnson, are better at limiting the spread of disease than the 'rule of six', they say.

'People from two households are likely to facilitate fewer connections than 6 people from 6 different households,' the experts write in their paper.

And they warn people who do insist on socialising outside of their bubbles should do so after they have seen elderly relatives, not before.

The timing of events is critical in protecting vulnerable people, they say.

Young people who intend to visit older family members over the festive period should also restrict their social contact in the weeks preceding christmas in early December.

The researchers say that if young people go out mingling before Christmas Day, opposed to at New Year, it will lead to a short-term spike in mortality.

Lifting restrictions for Christmas could lead to people flouting them for birthdays and anniversaries

The coronavirus restriction amnesty over Christmas risks undermining the tier system when they return on December 27, SAGE warns.

Government advisors write in their paper that by showing the restrictions can be lifted, members of the public may believe they can flout them for their own celebrations, such as birthdays and anniversaries.

Experts are concerned people will believe that celebrating a birthday is just as important, to them, as Christmas and if the restrictions were lifted for the entire nation for five days then it will be fine to ignore them for their own celebrations.

Bruno Fernandes has missed just TWO Man United games since joining but is in danger of burnout - Daily Mail

Posted: 27 Nov 2020 06:08 PM PST

Bruno Fernandes has missed just TWO Manchester United games since joining in January and has scored almost HALF of their Premier League goals this season... but with nine games in four weeks over the festive period he is in danger of burnout

  • Bruno Fernandes has missed just two matches for Man United since joining
  • Fernandes missed wins against LASK and Brighton in August and September
  • But he has played the second most minutes of any United player since February
  • Now with a hectic Christmas schedule fast approaching United will be worried

Manchester United's delight with Bruno Fernandes' recent brilliance on the field may well be tempered by a packed Christmas schedule on the horizon, provoking increasing fears of fatigue for the club's star man.

The 26-year-old has missed just two games for his club since his £68million move from Sporting Lisbon in January, namely the wins against LASK in the Europa League in August and the League Cup defeat of Brighton in September.

The 3-0 win at the Amex in the Carabao Cup is also the only occasion on which he has not been named in the Old Trafford side's squad for a competitive fixture.

It is a testament to the consistency he has brought and stability he has added in abundance to the midfield with his 35 appearances to date, which have included 21 goals - the most recent of which came in a double against Istanbul Basaksehir - as well as 13 assists.

It was fellow midfielder Paul Pogba's £89m arrival at the club in 2016 that many viewed as the signing who would help run the midfield given his outstanding performances for Juventus.

But it is new boy Fernandes who has usurped the France World Cup winner as the general in the middle of the park and remained the lynchpin around whom boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to be build his side.

Former United winger Nani is certainly of that view, stating earlier this week: 'A big part of this team is Bruno Fernandes. Bruno now is a much better player than when we were playing together [at Sporting].

United's win at Brighton (above) was the only time Fernandes has been left out of the squad

'I saw so much potential in Bruno and I told him to go to England if he decided to move to another league. I said to him: "Your game will fit there and the fans will go crazy for you!"

'The style of his football is something fans appreciate. He is a player who likes to take risks in the game, who wants to take the responsibility of the game on his back and make difficult passes, dribbles and shots.

'He doesn't care about mistakes; he only thinks about success and making the team have success. He knows what that takes. That's Man United, isn't it?

'Bruno has done so well until now, scoring goals and setting up a lot of goals, but he will keep improving and making the team even better.'

His goals have been crucial, netting more than half of the club's top-flights strikes this season

But boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not been keen to rest his star man during his United career

As Nani mentioned, his shooting ability has become of critical importance, with the former Sporting midfielder netting nine of United's 13 Premier League goals so far in 2020-21, with Edinson Cavani, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford grabbing one each.

And with the club facing no fewer than five games between December 20 and January 2 this season and nine games overall during a brutal festive period, United will be keen to keep their star man fresh as they look to push for a Champions League place and some silverware for the first time since 2017.

But if his nine-month career at Old Trafford so far is anything to by, Solskjaer appears to be reluctant to allow him any substantial period of rest, such is his prominence among the players.

Of all of the members of the Norwegian's squad, only captain Maguire has played more minutes across all competitions since February 1 than Fernandes, who made his debut that day in the 0-0 draw with Wolves at Old Trafford.

MOST MINUTES PLAYED FOR MANCHESTER UNITED SINCE FEBRUARY 1

All competitions

Harry Maguire - 3,120 minutes

Bruno Fernandes - 2,762 minutes

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 2,593 minutes

Premier League

Harry Maguire - 1,980 minutes

David De Gea - 1,980 minutes

Bruno Fernandes -  1,852 minutes

FA Cup

Bruno Fernandes  - 277 minutes

Eric Bailly - 231 minutes

Odion Ighalo - 221 minutes

The £80m England defender has played more than 3,000 minutes, while Fernandes has spent a total 2,762 minutes on the pitch since his United bow.

Only Maguire and No 1 goalkeeper David De Gea have featured in the Premier League more frequently, both amassing 1,980 minutes since February, while the midfield star is next on the list recording 1,852 top-flight minutes.

That sees him rank 37th in the category of most Premier League minutes featuring all players from all the other sides to have competed in the top-flight since February, and 25th excluding goalkeepers.

The Portugal international however does top the the FA Cup category, with no United having played more than the 277 minutes he spent on the field last season as the club reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by Chelsea at Wembley.

The sample size for the FA Cup is relatively small, given that Fernandes has only played in three matches in the competition, which included the full 120 minutes in the win at Norwich, but Eric Bailly is the next closest on the list with 231 minutes played.

Fernandes does not appear at the top of the United players to have completed the most minutes in Europe or the League Cup, with Anthony Martial having seen a high of 350 minutes of Champions League action and Maguire 570 minutes in last season's Europa League campaign.

By comparison, Fernandes's 259 minutes see him appear seventh on the list in the Champions League, his 362 minutes sixth in the Europa League and 18th in the League Cup having played just 12 minutes in that competition.

Yet to relegate his United career to pure statistics of how long he has spent on the pitch across all competitions since his arrival is unbecoming of a player whose leadership qualities and creativity have already made him a fans' favourite.

The club will require every single sinew of quality he can provide both in the dressing room and on the pitch over the festive period, with a tough Christmas period set to hit United.

Difficult fixtures away at Paris-Saint Germain and West Ham kick off December, before the Manchester derby takes centre stage during the middle of the month.

Solskjaer's men then face a less daunting task at Sheffield United before beginning the festive period in earnest with the visit of Marcelo Bielsa's fearless and progressive Leeds side.

They then take on Carlo Ancelotti's impressive Everton in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup three days later, before travelling to the King Power Stadium on Boxing Day to take on a Leicester side who will be out for revenge after their defeat by the Red Devils on the final day of last season robbed them of a Champions League spot.

The club finish off the festive period with two home games against Wolves and high-flying Aston Villa, both of whom earned a point at Old Trafford last season.

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have been the principal critics in the league of the scheduling and the alarming bi-product of an alarming increase of injuries that it is consequently creating.

Solskjaer himself is currently without up to six players for this weekend's encounter with high-flying Southampton, including Pogba and Wan-Bissaka and longer-term absentees Luke Shaw and Bailly.

The Norwegian also hit out before the last international break about the tight turnaround his side faced between competing against Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey on a Wednesday and their Saturday 12:30pm trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton.

'12.30pm on a Saturday doesn't help us but that's what the Champions League gives to you,' Solskjaer said.

'It gives you a challenge because you want to be in this competition playing in midweek and we've just got to take it as it comes.

'We asked for a Sunday game but there was absolutely no help to get that.'

But should top-flight fatigue rob him of star man Fernandes - who Solskjaer has been keen to deploy at any given opportunity - due to injury over the Christmas period, those complaints may yet turn into vehemently launching a further impassioned outburst.

But should fatigue get the better of him Solskjaer may yet have more frustration to vent

'Genshin Impact' Is Free-To-Play Fun — If You Can Resist Opening Your Wallet - KSUT Public Radio

Posted: 27 Nov 2020 05:08 PM PST

I didn't have an interest in playing Genshin Impact at first. I kept hearing it described as a clone of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and I didn't really feel like playing a crummier version of a game I've already played.

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play open-world adventure RPG made by miHoYo. It's available on mobile, PC, the PS4, and has cross-play compatibility between systems. So because it's free (until you really want a rare character and feel compelled to spend big money on loot crates without a guarantee of getting anything good) and everybody is playing it — I gave it a shot, and found out it's actually more fun than BOTW in a lot of ways.

I was shocked at how huge the game was. Like BOTW, Genshin Impact has a beautiful, big open world you can glide, climb, and fight through, and it's only going to keep getting bigger with future updates. (Right now, only two regions are unlocked out of the seven that will eventually be available.)

There is already a crazy amount of content for a free game: A long main story, and lots of quests, puzzles, challenges, and bosses — with a ton added already with their first update, and more to come with future updates.

That said, I didn't play Genshin Impact for the story, I played it for the fighting and the exploring. It's better than I thought it would be for a free game, but the storytelling is still less than memorable. The dialogue was cringe-inducingly emotionless when I listened to it in English, but more tolerable and human-sounding when I switched the language setting to Japanese.

The fights ... are much more fun in 'Genshin Impact' than they are in 'Breath of the Wild,' and that's the biggest difference between the two games. -

The fights, however, are much more fun in Genshin Impact than they are in BOTW, and that's the biggest difference between the two games.

You fight in teams of four with characters you unlock through the story — and through a system known as gacha, which is common in free-to-play games. You spend points (earned in the game, but often bought with real money) to roll for a random chance at getting characters and items. These are characters you meet throughout the story, and they all fight with different elements and skills, a lot like Pokemon

In BOTW, the only playable character is Link, but Genshin Impact gives you more opportunities to mix up your fighting style. Weapons that break quickly is one part of BOTW that has remained unenjoyable and tedious for me. In Genshin Impact, your weapons don't break and you can fight without constant interruptions, so you can spend less time searching for weapons and more time doing what you want.

During fights, you constantly cycle between members of your team and stack their abilities to customize attacks against monsters, and as your characters level up, you can level the world up too — getting tougher monsters and better rewards once you defeat them.

Your team also gives you perks during normal gameplay. For example, Venti has wind powers which are great in battle — but he can also create gusts that propel you into the air, making it easier to climb mountains. Unfortunately for me, he's one of the rare characters you have to roll for. I spent tons of points trying to get him — with no luck — and now Venti is far less likely to appear from a gacha drop.

And that's important: Genshin Impact — like all gacha games — makes you really want to get those rare characters. It's beyond tempting to spend real-life money, just to have a chance at unlocking rare, high-powered characters who can make your life much easier. I spent $40 of my money trying to unlock Venti or maybe Diluc (who deals fire damage), and didn't get either of them. And I went in thinking I wouldn't spend any money!

You're never guaranteed anything good in 'Genshin Impact' ... so building a good team can go pretty slow if you don't crack and spend money. -

You're never guaranteed anything good in Genshin Impact -- until the game starts to pity you after an absurd number of rolls, so building a good team can go pretty slow if you don't crack and spend money. And when certain characters seem almost impossible to get, it's even harder to resist opening your wallet.

When you get to Adventure Rank 16, you can play with your friends on Co-Op Mode. It's a lot of fun to fight bosses and explore the world with other people. But unfortunately, there's a timer called Resin that replenishes every 16 hours, limiting the awards you get throughout the day from things like boss battles, which makes playing pointless after you run out of Resin.

MiHoYo has improved the Resin system in the latest update: They increased the timer's capacity so you can fight more bosses and collect more rewards per day. You can also save some unused Resin for later. So while before the update you could only fight three or four bosses a day before running out of Resing — not much time to play with others — now, you can do way more with friends.

It's worth playing Genshin Impact, but you need to know right off the bat it's difficult to resist spending real money, and the Resin timer is frustrating, particularly later in the game or when you want to fight bosses. But there's still a ridiculous amount of content for a free game, and that makes it worth it — if you can make it through without spending any money.
