Juventus in no rush to trigger €35m Morata purchase option - Goal Posted: 19 Nov 2020 10:42 PM PST The Bianconeri are willing to wait before bringing the Spaniard back onto their books from Atletico Madrid on a permanent basis Juventus are in no rush to trigger their €35 million (£31m/$41m) purchase option on Alvaro Morata, Goal can confirm. Morata, who took in a successful two-year spell at Juve between 2014 and 2016, returned to Turin on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid in September. The Bianconeri forked out an initial €10m (£9m/$11.9m) fee for the striker, and they have the option to extend his loan by an extra year at the end of the season for the same lump sum. Juve can also sign Morata outright for €45m (£40m/$53m) next summer if they wish, but Goal has learned that the Italian giants are planning to wait until the following year before making his move to the Allianz Stadium permanent, meaning they won't have to pay as much upfront. Goal 50 Revealed: The best 50 players in the world The reigning Serie A champions are more than happy with the Atletico loanee's contribution at the start of the 2020-21 season, but are reluctant to meet his asking price at the moment due to the financial uncertainty caused by the coronavirus crisis. Morata has hit six goals in his first eight appearances since making his way back to Juve, and has been able to carry his prolific form over to the international stage over the past week. The 28-year-old scored the opener in Spain's 6-0 Nations' League victory over Germany on Tuesday, which ensured that Luis Enrique's side made it through to next year's finals. Juve supporters will hope Morata's hot streak in the final third continues when Cagliari arrive at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday. Andrea Pirlo's men haven't kicked off their title defence in the most impressive fashion, with three wins and four draws recorded from their opening seven fixtures. However, the Old Lady will be expected to get back to winning ways against Cagliari after being held to a 1-1 draw by Lazio before the international break, with Morata likely to retain his place in the team up front alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Juve are currently sitting fifth in the Serie A standings, four points behind leaders Milan, who are due to take in a tough trip to Napoli on Sunday. After their latest domestic outing, the Bianconeri will turn their attention to a Champions League meeting with Ferencvaros on November 24, which they must win to stay within touch of Group G leaders Barcelona. Posted: 19 Nov 2020 10:13 PM PST The President's refusal to concede, as CNN has previously reported, stems in part from his perceived grievance that Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama undermined his own presidency by saying Russia interfered in the 2016 election and could have impacted the outcome, people around him have said. Trump continues to hold a grudge against those who he claims undercut his election by pointing to Russian interference efforts, and he has suggested it is fair game to not recognize Joe Biden as the President-elect, even though Clinton conceded on election night in 2016 and the Trump transition was able to begin immediately. Trump is also continuing to process the emotional scars of losing to a candidate he repeatedly said during the campaign was an unworthy opponent whose win would amount to humiliation. He again made no public appearances on Thursday, skipping the first coronavirus task force briefing at the White House in more than six months. He is planning to participate in a virtual Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation summit Friday, a senior administration official told CNN. Trump has heard from a multitude of friends and business associates who have been urging him to at least let the transition begin, even if he doesn't want to concede, another source who is also familiar with the President's thinking told CNN. His answer: No. You're wrong. "Absolutely wrong," according to one source. When Trump has been told to get Rudy Giuliani and other members of his legal team off the case, the President has disagreed. He wants to continue the fight, and people close to the President have even expressed concern that he is buying into Giuliani's false claims that his legal efforts can change the election's outcome. He has shown no signs of backing down, even as those around him continue indicating that the end is near. Those allies have expressed worry that a sizable faction of the country thinks the election was stolen from Trump and that Biden isn't receiving national security briefings. The friends and associates, this source said, have been imploring the President to think about the future. They have told him he is making it harder on himself, that he'll have a hard time getting people to stay at his hotels, or even borrowing money if he continues this behavior. He will hurt his brand, they have told him. The President thinks that's wrong. His response is that he had more than 70 million people voting for him, which he thinks conveys ultimate power and authority -- and should convey the White House as well. Biden leads by nearly 6 million votes, with 306 electoral votes to Trump's 232. "The most important thing we need to keep in mind is that Donald is in a unique position for him," said Mary Trump, the President's niece who wrote a damning account of his family life. "He's never in his life been in a situation that he can't get out of either through using somebody else's money, using connections, using power. And not only is he in a unique position, he's in a position of being a loser, which in my family, certainly, as far as my grandfather was concerned, was the worst possible thing you could be." Trump is listening to his friends, this source said, but hurriedly ends conversations because he disagrees. He doesn't want to hear what he doesn't believe. Inside the White House, it seems as if many people have decided to let this play out, either because they want to or because they have no choice. Son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner is playing it cool, this source said, while daughter Ivanka Trump has pretty much removed herself from this, as CNN reported last week. Ivanka is well aware she has a business she might want to return to, or even a future political life, the source said. The President, this source said, "doesn't see" how bad the aftermath of all of this could be for the country, and for democracy itself. As usual, he's focused on himself -- not Covid-19, nor the transition. Trump has even been told there is no need to concede and to just let the transition proceed. It doesn't register, at least not yet. In another week or 10 days, this source said, it could be a different story. But he's still not ready now, if ever, to concede. Posted: 19 Nov 2020 09:09 PM PST President-elect Joe Biden's campaign on Thursday belittled President Donald Trump's legal team for promoting "thoroughly discredited claims of voter fraud," allegations that have failed to convince judges, elections officials or much of the American public. Biden's campaign spokesman blasted the president's lawyer Rudy Giuliani for a bizarre press conference where he made far-fetched claims of a "communist" plot to rig voting machines, berated reporters and sweated so profusely that hair dye dripped down both his cheeks. "What I'm describing to you is a massive fraud," Giuliani said. "It isn't a little teeny one." The former New York City mayor, who long ago was a widely respected top federal prosecutor, also cited the Joe Pesci legal-comedy film "My Cousin Vinny" during a nearly hour-long stemwinder before anyone else on the self-described "elite strike force team" of Trump lawyers managed to get a word in edgewise. Biden spokesman Michael Gwin gave Giuliani's performance a solid thumbs down. "Yet another Rudy Giuliani spectacle exposes, as his appearances always do, the absurdity of Donald Trump's thoroughly discredited claims of voter fraud," said Gwin. "Numerous courts, election officials from both parties, and even officials within Trump's own administration, have all reaffirmed that claims of widespread voter fraud are categorically false," Gwin said. "In fact, lawyers for Trump have admitted that in papers filed in court and under direct questioning from judges," he said. "No matter how hard Trump and the flailing Giuliani try, they cannot overturn the will of the American people, who resoundingly picked Joe Biden to be the next President of the United States." Chris Krebs, whom Trump fired via Twitter on Tuesday as head of Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, in his own tweet Thursday said, "That press conference was the most dangerous 1hr 45 minutes of television in American history." "And possibly the craziest. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you're lucky," Krebs tweeted. Krebs on Election Day had said on Twitter from his government account that "allegations that election systems were manipulated ... have been unsubstantiated or are technically incoherent." Krebs' comments angered Trump, who claimed there had been "massive improprieties and fraud." Those claims that have not been substantiated. Hours before his press conference, the Trump campaign withdrew its federal lawsuit challenging ballots in Wayne County, Michigan. Earlier in the week, Trump allies in multiple battleground states, including Michigan, withdrew their own lawsuits that were geared toward reversing Biden's victories in those states. And despite the claims of widespread voter fraud by Giuliani, other lawyers for the president, and Trump himself, the U.S. Justice Department — the executive branch agency that would be empowered to prosecute any multi-state conspiracy to rig a federal election — has taken no action to suggest any of those claims are based in fact. That has left the Trump campaign relying on recounts and lawsuits in a handful of states for its effort to overturn Biden's victory. Legal analysts and political experts give Trump little chance of doing so. Biden, the former Democratic vice president, is projected to win 306 Electoral College votes when those votes are cast next month. That is 36 more electoral votes than a candidate needs to win the presidency. Since the national popular vote was called for Biden, Trump has, uncharacteristically for him, largely stayed out of the public eye as he refuses to concede the election. The presumptive lame duck also has been firing off broadsides in tweets on which Twitter routinely slaps warning labels saying: "This claim about election fraud is disputed." Three-Goal Second Period Lifts Wolverines to Road Win Over No. 14 Badgers - MGoBlue Posted: 19 Nov 2020 08:47 PM PST » Michael Pastujov paced the Wolverines with two goals. Site: Madison, Wis. (LaBahn Arena) MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team defeated the No. 14 Wisconsin, 5-2, on Thursday night (Nov. 19) at LaBahn Arena -- the first time the Wolverines have played in the facility. With the game being played on the 200-foot by 90-foot ice sheet of LaBahn, U-M (3-0-0, 1-0-0 Big Ten) and its talented freshman class had a bit of extra space to work with. The teams had a feeling-out period early in the game with each side putting up three shots in the opening minutes to test the opposing netminders. Despite the pressure, neither side broke through until there was 1:10 left in the opening period. UW defenseman Josh Ess attempted to throw the puck on net, but his shot deflected off of a U-M skater's boot while he was attempting to slide into the shooting lane. With the late change of trajectory, the puck skittered over the blocker of Strauss Mann to put the Badgers ahead, 1-0, as the Wolverines fell behind for the first time this season. After a full period of play, Michigan led in shots (10-5) but trailed the Badgers (2-1-0, 2-1-0 Big Ten) by one goal. After Michigan killed off an early hooking penalty, the next grade-A chance came with about 8:35 left in the second period when Cole Caufield was sprung for a Badgers breakaway. Caufield waited until he was just a few strides away from the blue paint to fire a wrist shot that Mann engulfed for safekeeping. At 14:38 of the second period, senior forward Michael Pastujov buried his second whack at a loose puck in the blue paint after Thomas Bordeleau set it on a platter from behind the net to knot the game at 1. Nick Granowicz also picked up an assist on Pastujov's first goal of the year. Less than four minutes later, mobile blueliner Cam York was quarterbacking the team's first power-play opportunity of the night, when he found Bordeleau open on his left wing. The freshman forward received the pass and collapsed towards the net to draw defenders his way before sending a laser of a pass through the middle of the ice to Brendan Brisson. In his traditional spot near the right dot, Brisson wasted no time before unleashing a patented one-timer that found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal and a 2-1 U-M lead. While it appeared the Wolverines were going to take a one-goal advantage into the locker room after 40 minutes of play, the high-powered Michigan offense had other plans. Forwards Eric Ciccolini, Matty Beniers and Kent Johnson put on a gorgeous display of cycling the puck below the goal line in the opposing end in the final minute of the frame. With time ticking down, Beniers displayed his excellent hockey sense by flipping the puck into the slot where Ciccolini was waiting to rip home the team's third goal of the game with just four seconds left in the second period for a 3-1 lead. A little over a minute into the third period, UW senior Linus Weissbach scored on a power play, when his shot went off Mann's shoulder and the post before entering the net. Caufield picked up an assist on the Wisconsin goal that cut the deficit to 3-2. On the power play searching for a response a few minutes later, U-M kept possession in the zone until Johnny Beecher sprung free in the slot and recorded his first goal of the season 3:58 into the third to give Michigan a 4-2 lead. Linemate Jimmy Lambert received the puck along the boards behind the net from Brisson before making a beautiful pass, with his back to the play, right onto Beecher's tape. As quickly as he got the puck, it was deposited into the back of the net. When the UW goaltender went to the bench with 1:40 remaining in regulation to gain an extra attacker, Michigan's hungry offensive attack stayed on-task. Shortly thereafter, Pastujov intercepted a pass in the neutral zone, walked in on the empty net and buried the puck with one minute showing on the clock to push the Wolverine lead to 5-2. Nolan Moyle added an assist on the closeout goal, which secured Pastujov's first multi-goal game since Feb. 8, 2019, when he accomplished the feat in a 5-3 victory over Michigan State. U-M has now won six straight games dating back to last season as well as four straight over the Badgers. Mann stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced to pick up his third win of the season, while Brisson earned two assists on the night. The Wolverines and Badgers will finish off their early-season twin bill on Friday night (Nov. 20) at LaBahm Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST, and the game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Detroit and Big Ten Network Plus. Georgia confirms Biden victory and finds no widespread fraud after statewide audit - CNN Posted: 19 Nov 2020 06:08 PM PST Biden beat Trump by 12,284 votes, according to the final results from the audit. This is a slight drop for Biden compared to the pre-audit results. Officials have said repeatedly that the audit confirmed there was no widespread fraud or irregularities in the election. Georgia is required under state law to certify its election results by Friday. "Georgia's historic first statewide audit reaffirmed that the state's new secure paper ballot voting system accurately counted and reported results," Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, said in a statement. "This is a credit to the hard work of our county and local elections officials who moved quickly to undertake and complete such a momentous task in a short period of time." There is no state where the sting of Trump's loss has been more acutely felt than in the red state of Georgia. The suburban revolt against Trump in the suburbs surrounding Atlanta, paired with huge turnout among Black voters, powered Biden's gains in the state, building on years of intensive Democratic organizing to register voters. The Biden campaign's communications director for Georgia, Jaclyn Rothenberg, said in a statement Thursday evening that the recount outcome, "simply reaffirmed what we already knew: Georgia voters selected Joe Biden to be their next president." "We are grateful to the election officials, volunteers and workers for working overtime and under unprecedented circumstances to complete this recount, as the utmost form of public service," she said. The state is now the center of the political universe, because the two US Senate runoff elections will determine which political party controls the Senate. The President has continued to tweet debunked disinformation about voting software used in the state and objected to the recount as "fake" by tweeting false claims about the state's signature-matching process. Gabriel Sterling, Georgia's voting system implementation manager, explained to CNN's Anderson Cooper on "AC360" Thursday that "one of the main things that you're looking for when you do this hand audit is to make sure that the items you see on the paper, on the ballot" match what the computer says. "Human beings are looking because, as you know, one of the big complaints is these machines somehow flipped votes or changed votes or did stuff. They didn't, at least not in Georgia," Sterling said. "We proved it." During the weeklong recount, officials in four counties found new batches of votes that weren't counted on Election Day or weren't properly transmitted to the Secretary of State for tallying. In all, more than 5,800 uncounted votes were uncovered, netting nearly 1,400 new votes for Trump, who falsely said the discoveries were proof of wrongdoing. State officials stressed that these were accidents caused by human error and not indicative of fraud or vote-rigging. Raffensperger's office called the difference between the audit results and the original machine-counted results "well within the expected margin of human error that occurs when hand-counting ballots." Ben Adida -- the executive director of the election security nonprofit VotingWorks, which assisted Georgia with the audit -- said in a statement, "Georgia's first statewide audit successfully confirmed the winner of the chosen contest and should give voters increased confidence in the results." Raffensperger has come under fire from both Trump and the state's sitting GOP senators, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who called on him to resign after falsely accusing him of failing to "deliver honest and transparent elections." Raffensperger told CNN's Jake Tapper on Wednesday that the state has "not seen widespread voter fraud." When asked about the attacks from Trump and members of his own party, he defended his credentials as a "lifelong Republican" and "conservative Christian Republican." "I'm going to make sure we count every legal, lawful vote and we're not going to count any illegal votes," Raffensperger said. "My record will stand on itself. We have done a great job." This story and its headline have been updated with the results of Georgia's recount. Klopp believes eight clubs currently in Premier League title race - Goal.com Posted: 19 Nov 2020 05:42 PM PST The English champions will return to action against table-toppers Leicester City on Sunday as they look to mount a continued defence of their title Jurgen Klopp believes eight clubs are currently in the race for the Premier League title and admitted that the Reds retaining the crown would arguably top their achievement last season. The English champions will return to action against current table-toppers Leicester City on Sunday as they look to mount a continued defence of their first top-flight triumph in three decades, even as the queue for the Anfield medical room continues to mount. Despite having not taken to the field for the best part of a fortnight, the November international break has proven expensive for Klopp, with Joe Gomez the latest defender to join a lengthy injury list headed up by Virgil van Dijk, while Mohamed Salah is returning to the UK after testing positive for Covid-19 on duty with Egypt. Coupled with a frequently off-the-wall start to a new campaign that has thrown up some madcap results - including a 7-2 drubbing by Aston Villa - the Reds find themselves in a much more competitive fight to finish first than initially expected. Goal 50 Revealed: The best 50 players in the world Speaking with former Merseyside favourite Jamie Redknapp, Klopp has acknowledged that the opening months have suggested a wider race than ever before to be crowned champions of England, with the former Borussia Dortmund boss foreseeing over half-a-dozen contenders in the mix. "[I think there could be up to] eight", the German responded in the Mail when asked on how many clubs he saw jostling for the title. "An open race? I have no problem with that. That's absolute fine." Klopp admitted that he was finding himself hard-pressed to care about matching the achievements of last season amid the Reds' run of bad injury luck, adding that he felt a triple-digit points haul is likely well beyond any side in the competition already. "[I'm] sorry to say this but I couldn't care less in this moment," the 53-year-old acknowledged on the likelihood of an impressive final total for the winning club. "It doesn't look like somebody will get 100 or whatever. In this season? Four weeks shorter? Same amount of games? I don't think it's possible. Even 87 looks far away." Klopp did however speculate on the potential for another triumph, adding: "[But] if we were to win it this year it would be a big achievement to be honest. Maybe a bigger one [than last season]. That's what I love about the Premier League: there are so many contenders. "Our start was not so bad. Yes, we had a special game against Aston Villa [in defeat]. Maybe we needed that. We've used it. WINNIPEG, MB, Nov. 19, 2020 /CNW/ - Artis Real Estate Investment Trust ("Artis" or the "REIT") (TSX: AX.UN) today announced that, in accordance with the REIT's previously announced asset disposition program, it has completed the sale of Concorde Corporate Centre and Delta Shoppers Mall for an aggregate sale price of $148.3 million, exceeding the International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS") fair values for the properties by $2.1 million. These sales generated cash that will be used to fulfil the REIT's commitment to strengthen its balance sheet and return capital to unitholders through unit buybacks. Artis also provided an update on the REIT's active Normal Course Issuer Bid ("NCIB") program. Property Dispositions On November 16, 2020, Artis sold Concorde Corporate Centre, a 565,190 square foot office complex located in Toronto, Ontario. The sale price of $114.0 million represents a capitalization rate of 5.0% and exceeds the REIT's IFRS fair value of $112.1 million by $1.9 million. On November 18, 2020, Artis sold Delta Shoppers Mall, a 74,669 square foot retail property located in Delta, British Columbia. The property was sold for $34.3 million, which represents a capitalization rate of 5.2% and exceeds the REIT's IFRS fair value of $34.1 million by $0.2 million. "These properties were sold as part of our plan to sell $550 million of properties over the next 12 months," said Armin Martens, President and CEO of Artis. "These sales continue to demonstrate our ability to unlock value in our portfolio and to sell assets at valuations that correspond to our IFRS net asset value. The proceeds from these dispositions will be used to follow through on our commitment to unitholders - to improve our balance sheet and liquidity and to support our unit buyback program." In addition to the above noted asset sales, the REIT sold a parcel of development land in the Twin Cities Area, Minnesota, for US$5.5 million. The sale closed on November 9, 2020. In November 2018, in conjunction with a number of other strategic initiatives aimed at improving Artis' growth profile and strengthening its balance sheet, the REIT announced its intention to embark on a disposition program with a target of $800 million to $1 billion of non-core assets sales over a three-year time frame. In September 2020, Artis had achieved this target with approximately $800 million of dispositions completed ahead of schedule and committed to sell an additional $550 million. Since November 2018, Artis has successfully completed approximately $950 million of asset sales at an aggregate sale price in excess of the IFRS fair value of such assets. Active NCIB Program Since Artis announced its Q3-20 results, the REIT has repurchased 447,669 common units under its NCIB at a weighted-average price of $10.17, representing a significant discount to both the consensus net asset value and to the REIT's IFRS net asset value. Artis is targeting a buyback of 2% of units outstanding annually. Artis is a diversified Canadian real estate investment trust investing primarily in industrial and office properties in select markets in Canada and the United States. Since 2004, Artis has executed an aggressive but disciplined growth strategy, building a portfolio of commercial properties which, as of September 30, 2020, comprised approximately 23.8 million square feet of leasable area. Artis is focused on growing its industrial portfolio through strategic development projects in its target markets. The Toronto Stock Exchange has not reviewed and does not accept responsibility for the adequacy or accuracy of this press release. Judges toss Republican lawsuits in Arizona, Pennsylvania and Georgia - CNN Posted: 19 Nov 2020 05:08 PM PST The hat trick of losses were the latest round of defeats for the Trump campaign in its long-shot and increasingly far-fetched bid to block President-elect Joe Biden's win before the Electoral College certifies him as the next president. One of the judges, a Trump appointee in Georgia, called the attempt by Republican-allied lawyers to block election results "quite striking," refusing their attempt to stop Biden's win there. In Arizona, a state judge declined to audit votes in the state and delay the finalization of results, saying the lawsuit couldn't be retooled and brought again. And in Pennsylvania, a state judge ordered the counting of more than absentee 2,000 ballots the Trump campaign wanted to exclude. The rulings came with only a few hours between them on Thursday. Losses for the Trump campaign have piled up on other recent days, including when nine cases from the Trump campaign or his allies were either denied or pulled last Friday, and when Trump-supporting voters dropped four lawsuits pushing fraud claims earlier this week. Despite pledges by Trump campaign attorneys -- including Rudy Giuliani -- to continue the fight, nearly no viable post-election cases remain for the Trump campaign that could deprive Biden of the electoral votes to become president. Legal analysts have widely said Trump's bids in court to change the election results will all fail. One federal lawsuit now spearheaded by Giuliani lingers in Pennsylvania, but the judge who is considering it expressed skepticism on Tuesday that the commonwealth's presidential vote should be discarded. An Arizona state judge threw out the Arizona Republican Party's lawsuit seeking a broader audit of votes cast on Election Day that county lawyers warned could have delayed the state's certification of ballots. In a brief order, Judge John Hannah dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice and denied the party's request for an injunction to block Maricopa County, home of Phoenix and the most populous county in the state, from certifying its election results. CNN projects that President-elect Joe Biden will win Arizona, leading by more than 10,000 votes with an estimated 99% of precincts reporting as of Thursday night and marking the second time a Democrat will carry Arizona in a presidential election in more than seven decades. The Arizona GOP alleged that the Secretary of State's manual violated state law because its hand count of a random sampling of ballots was conducted based on polling places, not precincts. The order marks yet another lawsuit to be thrown out by the courts as Republicans look to challenge the election's results in battleground based on unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud and election malfeasance. Last week, lawyers for the Trump campaign dropped a lawsuit seeking a review of all ballots cast on Election Day after finding that the margin of victory for the presidential contest in Arizona could not be overcome. More than half of all counties in Arizona have conducted post-election audits and found either no discrepancies or microscopic issues that don't affect the outcome, according to reports filed with the secretary of state's office. Audits in Arizona's four largest counties, which comprised 86% of all votes for president in the state, turned up no evidence of the systematic voter fraud that President Donald Trump has complained about. There were no irregularities found in Maricopa County. Officials in Pima County, home to Tucson, audited a random sample of 4,239 votes in the presidential race and only found a two-vote discrepancy. Geoff Burgan, the Biden campaign's Arizona communications director, called the lawsuit "frivolous and rightfully dismissed." "Arizona's election was well-run and transparent, and far-right fringes of the Arizona Republican Party should stop trying to undermine Arizonans' faith in free and fair elections," Burgan added. Arizona Republican Party Chairwoman Kelli Ward slammed the order on Thursday and renewed her call for an audit. "I stand by my call for a full hand-count audit of our state's election results," Ward said in a statement, though she did not explicitly confirm that the party would appeal. An attorney for the county, Joseph LaRue, said in court that county's deadline for certifying ballots is Monday and a delay, could impact the state's ability to meet the Electoral College deadline. The state certification deadline is November 30. The Electoral College votes on December 14. Hannah also said Arizona's Secretary of State could seek the reimbursement of legal fees. PennsylvaniaA state judge in Pennsylvania rejected an attempt by the Trump campaign to throw out more than 2,000 absentee ballots for technical reasons. The Trump campaign has made several attempts to throw out absentee ballots in Pennsylvania courts, and Judge Robert Baldi of the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas on Thursday ruled that throwing out the absentee ballots would disenfranchise voters. The case was not among those where the Trump campaign has alleged fraud. Instead, the campaign had argued the state should enforce rules about when absentee ballots should or should not be counted, taking issue with 2,177 ballots in Bucks County that were in an unsealed privacy envelope or lacked handwritten dates, names or addresses on their outer envelopes. Those ballots will be counted, Baldi ordered. The Trump campaign has lost several similar bids attacking small numbers of absentee ballots in two other counties. Baldi, in his opinion on Thursday, made clear fraud was not an issue. "It must be noted that the parties specifically stipulated in their comprehensive stipulation of facts that there exists no evidence of any fraud, misconduct, or any impropriety with respect to the challenged ballots. There is nothing in the record and nothing alleged that would lead to the conclusion that any of the challenged ballots were submitted by someone not qualified or entitled to vote in this election," he wrote. "At no time did Petitioners present evidence or argument to the contrary." A federal judge in Georgia rejected an election lawsuit brought by a Republican elector, Lin Wood, who had alleged in court constitutional violations, perceived fraud in the presidential election and sought to block the certification of election results. "There's no doubt an individual's right to vote is sacrosanct," Judge Steven Grimberg in the Northern District of Georgia said Thursday evening. But, that "does not mean individual voters have the right to dictate" how votes are cast or decided to be counted. "It's not for the courts to meddle with" processes set by the states, he added. Wood's attorney indicated earlier on Thursday that he may want to try for a second round before the judge, representing the Trump campaign as it seeks to block a Biden win. But Grimberg's ruling on Thursday, spoken from the bench, shuts down new rounds of lawsuits in multiple ways. Grimberg decided that the elector in Georgia didn't have the ability to show he could bring a case, didn't have an avenue in court under the law and had sued far too late to affect the election. "I didn't hear any justification for why the plaintiff delayed bringing this claim until two weeks after this election and on the cusp of these election results being certified," Grimberg, a Trump appointee, said. Absentee ballot counting in Georgia, which Republicans were challenging in the lawsuit, started months ago, he noted. Viral TikTok Shows Woman Laughing At 2020 Goal List - BuzzFeed News Posted: 19 Nov 2020 04:42 PM PST Robyn Schall is a New York City–based comedian who has performed in clubs around the world and at special shows for the military overseas. Well, at least, she used to. The coronavirus pandemic has pretty much shuttered comedy clubs around the country, and there's not much work going around. Quarantined for most of the pandemic in her tiny studio apartment, Schall and others like her in the arts industry have had to grapple with a difficult year they never could have imagined. On the evening of Nov. 12, Schall was enjoying a glass of wine and going through some old comedy notebooks when she came across an entry she wrote way back in December 2019. It was an optimistic list of goals she had for herself — all of which, of course, went into the toilet of the year that is 2020. "When I came across it, I just started laughing because it was such a different person," she told BuzzFeed News in a phone interview on Thursday. "Everything on the list is just so funny because it's everything taken away from us," she said. So she pulled out her phone and started recording a TikTok. "Excuse my looks," she began, pouring herself a big glass of wine. "I'm just, you know, in the middle of hitting rock bottom." "But I found my goal list that I made in December. My goals for 2020," she said, chuckling. "Okay, tell me if this is not hilarious." "Alright. Goal one: Make more money," she said. "I, you know, have been unemployed since March." "Travel more. Lose weight. Be more social," she continued, barely holding it together. "I wrote 'cry less'! I've cried every single day of this whole pandemic!" Then came the darkest moment of black humor. "It's not funny," she said through tears of laughter, "but I wrote, 'Spend more time with my grandma,' and she died." Schall told BuzzFeed News she could barely keep it together while filming the clip as everything was a hilariously dark reminder of just how awful this year has been. It felt like all she could do was laugh. "The universe was like, No, we're not gonna give you travel or success. Oh, you want some time with your grandma? We're gonna knock out all old people!" she said. Schall's maternal grandmother, whom she called Grandma Sue, died of heart failure in May at age 94. Her other grandmother also died around the same time from cancer and COVID-19. "It was stinky that we couldn't be there with them for the last few months of their lives," she said. But as she recorded her TikTok about the year from hell, she couldn't but feel as if it was all just "comically heartbreaking." "My grandma died — but everyone on the entire planet, whether they're dead or alive, has been taken away from you!" she said. Within a few days, her TikTok started going viral. It's now been viewed more than 3.5 million times and reposted across a bunch of other social platforms by celebrities and other people who think she's captured the mood perfectly. "2020 in a nutshell. Thank you, @robynschallcomic," wrote actor Jennifer Garner on Instagram. "I'm sorry about your Grandma ♥️." "If my grandma knew that Jennifer Garner gave her condolences!" Schall said. "What!" The ladies of The View also could barely keep it together as they discussed the clip. As did a ton of other celebs, whose reactions Schall talked about in new TikTok videos. She said she's glad her little video is bringing so much joy to people. "The outpouring of people, just regular people who are just in my DMs and the comments opening up and feeling so much better and laughing. Everyone missed laughing. I'm so happy," she said. "That's the best part — that millions of people are just laughing a bit more." One other good bit of news? One of her goals was to hit 10,000 followers on social media, and her viral video helped her achieve that. The irony for Schall, of course, is that a video of her reflecting on the worst year of her life has brought her fame and might salvage 2020 for her, after all. "I've been in this business a long time. I never imagined this. Every celebrity I could ever think of has reached out. All the different talk shows," she said. "It's not even real." Still, 2020 isn't done yet being 2020. "It's so 2020 that celebrities want to get a drink with me and we can't go out," she said. "I get my big break and I can't do anything!"
