The Bayonne Police Department and International Matex Tank Terminals- Bayonne (IMTT) have entered into a “mutually beneficial” public-private partnership.

IMTT handles and stores bulk liquid products. The company owns and operates terminals in Bayonne and eighteen other locations in the United States and Canada.

Supporting police and fire

As a result of a donation made by IMTT-Bayonne, the Bayonne Police Department was able to expand its ability to use the latest technology to keep the community safe.

In 2020, the city accepted a $73,718.78 donation from IMTT-Bayonne to purchase License Plate Recognition software at its July city council meeting.

The donation offset the cost of a Fixed Automated Plate Reader initiative. In October, the city authorized a warrant for thee system for the $73,718.78 donation and another $8,500 for the maintenance and support for the system by SHI of Somerset.

The initiative involving IMTT-Bayonne and the city aims to help improve the overall quality of life of the community. And IMTT-Bayonne has a history of supporting not only the local police, but fire department in the city too.

In 2018, IMTT-Bayonne donated $14,000 worth of 15 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottles to the Bayonne Fire Department. The bottles are used in the SCBA, which is a type of respiratory protection equipment that contains breathable compressed air typically used by firefighters and rescue workers.

In 2017, IMTT-Bayonne donated 11 sets of firefighter turnout gear valued at $9,662,60 to the fire department.

Officials applaud

City officials involved in the partnership applauded the initiative.

“I would like to commend IMTT for its support of public safety programs in Bayonne,” Mayor James Davis said. “The company has had a long tradition of civic involvement in our community. On behalf of the City of Bayonne, I would like to thank IMTT for its partnership with the Bayonne Police Department.”

“I would like to thank everyone at IMTT-Bayonne, especially Sunny Risler, Rich Ambrosio and Eric Deitrich for their continued support of the men and women of the Bayonne Police Department,” Police Chief Robert Geisler said. “Entering into public-private partnerships, as we have with IMTT-Bayonne, benefits both the private and public sectors. I am proud of the relationships that we, at the police department, have formed with everyone at IMTT-Bayonne and I look forward to growing our relationship with them in the future.”
