Ministry spells out exceptions to re-entry ban - NHK WORLD

deweweko.blogspot.com

Japan's Justice Ministry has decided to ease the ban on re-entry by foreign nationals in situations requiring humanitarian consideration.

Japan currently bans the entry of people from 111 countries and territories to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Some foreign residents of Japan hesitate to leave the country, even to attend a relative's funeral, because they fear they could be denied re-entry.

Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu announced last month that the government will consider easing the entry ban in some cases for humanitarian reasons.

The Justice Ministry posted the exceptions on its website on Wednesday.

Immigration Services Agency officials say foreign residents whose overseas relatives have died or are in critical condition, or who require follow-up exams after surgery abroad, will be allowed to re-enter Japan.
