Entry into Donald Trump’s re-election fundraising event at his Bedminster golf club Saturday evening carried a hefty price tag and a negative COVID-19 test.
The 15 guests who attended had to not only take a test for the virus on the day of the event but also were required to complete a wellness questionnaire, as well as pass a temperature screening, officials said.
The costs for the tests were covered by Trump Victory, a joint fundraising committee benefiting the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee and 22 state parties, though not New Jersey.
The site was professionally cleaned and sanitized prior to the event as well, authorities said.
The $250,000 per person event, which was held outdoors, netted over $3 million for Trump’s campaign.
The president held an event in Bedminster last July for the joint fundraising committee. According to the Republican National Committee, 300 people attended that fundraiser and raised $3 million.
Trump also dined with Gov. Phil Murphy at the golf club on Friday night, and delivered the commencement address at West Point on Saturday morning.
His presence at the golf club on Saturday was not welcome by all, however, as a few miles away around 100 people gathered to proclaim Black lives matter, and that the president was not welcome in the Garden State.
The president was supposed to spend last weekend in Bedminster but canceled his trip as protests continued in Washington following the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody.
