The Pennsylvania coronavirus reopening continued Friday as the Lehigh Valley, Scranton and Philadelphia entered the yellow phase, among the last of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties to do so.
Friday afternoon, Gov. Tom Wolf announced the next 12 counties, including Carbon, that will enter the green phase in one week.

“While we’ve reopened Pennsylvania ... we still have continued to see a decline in new infections. This is really great progress,” Wolf said.
Still, Pennsylvania coronavirus cases topped 74,000 on Friday with 5,886 deaths from COVID-19.

Next phases of reopening Pa.
As of 12:01 a.m. Friday, the last 10 counties still under a stay-at-home order entered the yellow phase. They are: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton and Philadelphia.
The densely populated region also has the highest density of total cases per 100,000 residents.
Under the yellow phase, more retailers can reopen and restaurants can resume outdoor seating. Gyms, spas, salons and entertainment venues are still closed, and crowds of more than 25 people are prohibited.
Gov. Wolf also announced 12 more counties that will enter the green phase on June 12. They are: Adams, Beaver, Carbon, Columbia, Cumberland, Juniata, Mifflin, Northumberland, Union, Wayne, Wyoming and York.
To enter the green phase, yellow-phase counties have to stabilize or decrease their case counts over two weeks, have a test-positivity rate of under 10% over that time, and have contact-tracing in place to monitor people who may have been exposed to infected patients.
In the green phase, all businesses are reopened with restrictions on capacity. Crowds are allowed up to 250 people, which means professional sports events, like NASCAR at Pocono Raceway, will be without spectators.
Under all phases, residents are instructed to continue wearing masks, be diligent about personal hygiene and respect social distancing. That is likely to continue even after green-phase restrictions are eventually lifted – Wolf and Health Secretary Rachel Levine said those plans are under development with the assumption a coronavirus vaccine will not be ready by fall.
Meanwhile, health officials continue to monitor for rises in cases as restrictions ease. Wolf said Erie County specifically is seeing an “alarming” increase. Six contact tracers are being dispatched to the county, Wolf said.

The health department reports an estimated 70% of Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 patients have recovered, and that 424,201 tests have come back negative to date.
Of Pennsylvania’s 74,000 coronavirus cases, 5,659 – or about 7.5% -- have been health care workers.
Residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities account for 15,929 cases – about 21% of Pennsylvania’s total case count – and 4,077 deaths, or 69% of the state’s COVID-19 death toll.

Coronavirus in the Lehigh Valley
Lehigh Valley coronavirus cases now total 6,965. The region is creeping toward 7,000 cases with 24 in the last day, 12 each in Lehigh and Northampton counties, according to the state’s report.
However, like Pennsylvania as a whole, the Lehigh Valley’s rate of new cases has been slowing.

The health department also reports seven more deaths in the two counties, bringing the Lehigh Valley’s official COVID-19 death toll to 474 people. That is about what the counties themselves have so far reported.
