Members of the Lebanon Area Fair are calling for youth to enter in the 2020 Lebanon Area Fair (LAF) before the quickly approaching July 10 deadline.

This announcement comes soon after the fair board’s announcement that the 2020 LAF will have youth shows and exhibits, along with drive-through barbecue and fair food pick-up.

These youth shows will be similar to those from previous years with a few modifications to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The biggest changes are that they will run on a modified schedule and will not be open to the general public.

Everyone age 19 and younger is eligible to enter exhibits in the youth category, even if they are not in 4-H or FFA. Open exhibits, however, will not be running this year.

There are many different categories of exhibits to enter in, covering a wide variety of hobbies and interests. In addition to animal entries, the most popular of these categories include home-grown fruits and vegetables, sewing, food and baked goods, arts and crafts, and photography.

“We know there have been kids who have been creating things and honing new skills in the last couple of months,” said Indoor Exhibits Chair Rachel Siegel in a press release. “Our hope is the children and their parents will see entering the Fair as a goal or outlet for that energy, and maybe earn some ribbons, prize money and bragging rights in the process.”

Before entering, exhibitors are encouraged to visit the LAF Youth Exhibit Page to read both the general rules and rules specific to each category. Once they have done so, they can enter by going to laf.fairmanager.com and filling out information regarding their entries.

This year, all entry fees have been waived, so it is free for exhibitors to participate. Prize money will still be paid to winners despite the lack of entry fees.

Youth exhibitors must take their entries to the fairgrounds on either Friday, July 24 between 3 and 9 p.m. or Saturday, July 25 between 7 and 9 p.m. for them to be judged. Their entries will be judged on a modified schedule over the course of fair week. The fair board hopes to have the results posted before exhibitors pick up their entries on Saturday, August 1.

Exhibits will only be accepted if Lebanon County remains in the green phase, so the fair board encourages exhibitors to keep up with the latest guidelines and check the LAF website for any changes.
