Alabama redshirt sophomore safety Eddie Smith has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal. As of Wednesday afternoon, Smith's name has not officially appeared in the portal.
"I want to thank the University of Alabama and coach Saban for believing in me," Smith tweeted. "I also want to thank my brothers for lifelong memories made. Although this was a tough decision, after much thought and prayer I have decided to enter the transfer portal."
Smith played in 10 games during his three-year career in Tuscaloosa, Ala. His most extensive playing time came in 2018 as a freshman when he carved out a role on special teams.
A former 4-star recruit from Slidell, La., Smith was the No. 11-ranked player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 27-rated cornerback in the 2018 cycle, according to 247Sports.
Established in October of 2018, the NCAA’s transfer portal now allows collegiate student-athletes to merely enter their name into an online database and wait for collegiate teams to contact them. It is also worth noting that players can withdraw their name from the portal, too.

Two Alabama players entered the transfer portal this season in defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher and linebacker Kevin Harris. Sopsher transferred to USC, and Harris to Georgia Tech.
