Unvaccinated and unrecovered citizens from Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, and Germany will be subject to testing requirements when planning to travel to the Czech Republic, as the latter’s government has placed these territories in the dark red category after confirming they recorded high rates of COVID-19 infection in the last two weeks.

The new changes introduced by Czechia’s Ministry of Health after taking into account the data provided by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) will become effective on Monday, January 17.

In addition, the same Ministry has confirmed that Romania will now be part of the red list, which consists of countries highly affected by the spread of the Coronavirus, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

The data provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that over 2,573,900 cases of COVID-19 infection have been registered in the Czech Republic since the start of the pandemic. In addition, more than 36,700 people have lost their lives due to the virus during the same period.

Such figures and the Omicron’s variant rapid spread led authorities in the Czech Republic to impose stricter entry rules for arrivals from other countries.

In addition, Czechia’s government continues to classify other territories into green, orange, red, and dark red groups, taking into account the epidemiological situation in them.

At present, the green list, which consists of countries that have low rates of COVID-19 infection, and are therefore considered safe, includes only the Vatican City State, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health.

As for non-EU countries, the following territories belong to Czechia’s safe list, meaning that arrivals from these countries are exempted from testing and quarantine requirements upon their entry:

Bahrain, Chile, Indonesia, Colombia, Korea, Qatar, Kuwait, Macao, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Peru, the United Arab Emirates, Rwanda, the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, and Taiwan.

The medium-risk list, which consists of territories that pose a medium risk in terms of the Coronavirus situation, is currently empty, as none of the countries fall into this group.

Poland and Romania belong to the red list, meaning that arrivals from these territories will be subject to a testing process upon entering Czechia.

Besides, the following countries are also part of the Czech Republic’s red list:

Andorra, Bulgaria, Belgium,  Denmark, France, Croatia, Germany, Finland, Hungary,  Malta, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Norway, Hungary, Germany,  Monaco, Ireland, Iceland,  Austria,  Estonia, Greece,  Lithuania, Portugal including Madeira and Azores, San Marino, Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden, Spain including Balearic and Canary Islands as well as Switzerland and other non-EU countries.

Authorities in the Czech Republic previously confirmed that arrivals from countries included in the red and dark red list are obliged to follow the same entry requirements. In addition, they are also required to fill in the arrival form before returning to this country.

Still, the Ministry of Health has stressed that all persons who have been vaccinated against the virus are not subject to the entry requirements.

“The conditions for testing when returning from abroad do not apply to Czech citizens and foreigners with a residence permit who have completed vaccinations or have contracted covid-19 in the last 180 days. All they have to do is fill in the arrival form. Regardless of the category of the country,” the statement confirms.

Earlier this month, Czechia’s Ministry of Health announced that stricter entry rules would be applied for arrivals from Latvia, Finland, and the Azores.
