The Spanish authorities have announced that all European Union and Schengen Area countries, except for Switzerland, will continue to be part of its COVID-19 risk list for another week.
According to the latest update made by the Ministry of Health of Spain, the updated risk list will enter into force tomorrow, January 17, and will remain valid until January 23, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
This means that all travellers who reach Spain from EU/Schengen Area countries that are currently considered as a risk area will be required to meet certain rules in order to be permitted entry to the country.
Spain’s risk list, which will enter into force tomorrow, will include Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, and Romania.
In the previous update, only some regions of Romania were listed as risk areas. However, since the country has identified increased COVID-19 infection rates over the last couple of weeks, now the whole territory of Romania will be part of the risk list.
In line with the current rules that Spain has, all persons who have been recovered or fully vaccinated against the virus can enter the country without having to follow any additional rules, even if their country of origin is part of the risk list.
“All those passengers from a country that has a SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus risk must present, a certificate or document certifying vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative certificate of a Diagnostic Test of Active Infection or a certificate of Recovery,” the Ministry noted.
Nonetheless, everyone is still required to fill out a Health Control Form. It has been emphasised that each form is personal, non-transferable, and associated with a single trip.
Travellers who haven’t been vaccinated or recovered from the virus are also permitted to enter Spain. However, they must present a PCR test taken within 72 hours before arrival or a rapid antigen test taken within 48 before arrival.
It has been explained that children under 12 are not required to present any of the certificates or a negative test. The only document they must present is the entry form.
Regarding the third countries, they are all now placed on Spain’s high-risk list. Nonetheless, certain exemptions apply.
Third countries that are currently exempt from the high-risk list are as follows:
- Saudi Arabia
- Bahrein
- Chile
- China; including administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao
- Colombia
- South Korea
- United Arab Emirates
- Indonesia
- Kuwait
- New Zealand
- Peru
- Qatar
- Rwanda
- Uruguay
- Taiwan
