Samsung Galaxy M31s India launch in July: Can it be as good as Galaxy M31? - The Indian Express Posted: 17 Jul 2020 11:08 PM PDT By: Tech Desk | New Delhi | Updated: July 18, 2020 11:21:36 am For the last few years, Samsung is going really big with its M series in India. In February this year, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer launched the Galaxy M31 and now as far as rumours are concerned the M31s is coming soon. Samsung, however, is yet to confirm the smartphone. Past reports suggested that the M31s will take some time to launch. According to a fresh report coming from IANS Samsung will launch the Galaxy M31s in July. The sale, however, is said to begin only next month, in August. The launch and the sale date are still a mystery. With the upcoming Galaxy M31s Samsung could take on the likes of phones like Poco M2 Pro, Redmi Note 9 Pro, Realme 6 Pro. Samsung Galaxy M31s could be similar to M31Ahead of the launch, the smartphone has been subjected to several leaks and rumours, providing us with details related to the device. The Galaxy M31s has been spotted on several certification websites such as Geekbench, TUV Rheinland, and Safety Korea with some of the key specifications. According to the listing on the certification sites the Samsung Galaxy M31s will come with a model number SM-M317F and run on octa-core Exynos 9611 SoC paired with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. Listings also suggest that the Galaxy M31s will come packed with a massive 6000mAh battery, an AMOLED screen, and a 64MP quad rear camera setup. Read our review of Samsung Galaxy M31s here The rumours specifications give us an idea that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy M31s will not be very different from the already available Galaxy M31, which according to our review was a 'paisa vasool' smartphone. The Galaxy M31 equips a 6.4-inch Infinity U FHD+ Super AMOLED display, Exynos 9611 processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB storage, 64MP quad rear cameras, 6000mAh battery, 15W fast charging support and Android 10, One UI 2.0. Expect a fresh designFor now, there's no clarity as to how the two phones — Samsung Galaxy M31 and Galaxy M31s — will differ. Considering the specifications of the M31 and rumours details of the M31s we could see very minimal changes. The Samsung Galaxy M31 comes with a rectangular camera module at the back which stands different from other phones at the price point but the same as previous Samsung phones. We expect Samsung to bring a fresh design for the M31s given the Galaxy M31 looked exactly like the M30s. So, with the upcoming M31s, a new design is what we are expecting. Galaxy M31s expected price in IndiaIn terms of pricing too the Samsung Galaxy M31s could be at par with the M31 that starts at a price of Rs 14,999. Samsung is yet to reveal the official pricing of the phone but it is tipped to be priced under Rs 20,000, of course. The M30s was also priced under Rs 20,000 and so will be the successor of it. The smartphone is said to go on sale next month, in August, on Amazon.in. The sale date is yet to be revealed. 📣 The Indian Express is now on Telegram. Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:08 PM PDT WASHINGTON – Rep. John R. Lewis, the civil rights icon whose fight for racial justice began in the Jim Crow south and ended in the halls of Congress, died Friday night. The Georgia lawmaker had been suffering from Stage IV pancreatic cancer since December. He was 80. The son of Alabama sharecroppers, Lewis served in Congress for more than three decades, pushing the causes he championed as an original Freedom Rider challenging segregation, discrimination and injustice in the Deep South – issues reverberating today in the Black Lives Matter movement. Along with Martin Luther King Jr., he was an organizer of the March on Washington in 1963, a seminal moment in the Civil Rights Movement that led to the passage of voting rights for Blacks two years later. He became a community activist and member of the Atlanta City Council before winning a seat in Congress in 1986. He would go on to become a best-selling author and in 2011 was awarded the nation's highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, by Barack Obama, the nation's first Black president. Lewis was elected to his 17th term in November 2018. "(A)ll these years later, he is known as the Conscience of the United States Congress, still speaking his mind on issues of justice and equality," Obama said in 2011, as he was bestowing the Medal of Freedom. "And generations from now, when parents teach their children what is meant by courage, the story of John Lewis will come to mind – an American who knew that change could not wait for some other person or some other time; whose life is a lesson in the fierce urgency of now." Fighting for civil rights in Nashville: Rep. John Lewis' example continues to inspire A national figure at an early ageApart from the Freedom Riders, a group of black and white civil rights activists who rode interstate buses to fight segregation across the South, Lewis was one of the founding members of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, which advocated for civil rights with demonstrations at lunch counters and voter-registration drives. After four African American college students sat down on Feb. 1, 1960, at a whites-only lunch counter at a Woolworth's in Greensboro, North Carolina, Lewis helped organize similar sit-ins around the South that drew national attention to the rampant racism that pervaded southern states. 'John Lewis: Good Trouble': 5 lessons from the documentary that still apply today "Some people were heard to say by sitting down these young people are standing up for the very best in American tradition," Lewis told USA TODAY in 2013. "Martin Luther King Jr. was so pleased. He was gratified, He was deeply moved and touched to see this new militancy on the part of the students," the congressman continued. "He knew then that his message of non-violence and passive resistance would live, and it would be moving around the South, embedded in the very being of these young people." Arrested, jailed and beaten for challenging Jim Crow laws, Lewis would become a national figure by his early 20s. He later became the youngest of the Big Six civil rights leaders and, at 23, helped organize the March on Washington. There, he provided a keynote speech at the landmark event for civil rights. "As it stands now, the voting section of this bill will not help the thousands of black people who want to vote," Lewis said. "It will not help the citizens of Mississippi, of Alabama and Georgia who are qualified to vote but lack a sixth-grade education. One man, one vote is the African cry. It is ours, too. It must be ours." More: Black lives matter: We must live up to Declaration of Independence's promise Two years later, he helped organize the voting-rights march in Alabama that became known as "Bloody Sunday," when state troopers attacked demonstrators with tear gas and billie clubs, a nationally televised melee hastened passage of the Voting Rights Act. Lewis' skull was fractured in the demonstration Lewis remained the last surviving member of the Big Six, which included King, James Farmer, A. Phillip Randolph, Roy Wilkins, and Whitney Young. His death comes shortly after the release of a new documentary that's giving a new generation of civil rights activists a timely glimpse into his historic contributions. Director Dawn Porter's timely documentary, "John Lewis: Good Trouble," premiered in early July as worldwide protests against racism and police brutality sparked by the death of George Floyd have renewed global calls for social justice. "My greatest fear is that one day we may wake up and our democracy is gone," Lewis, 80, says in the film. A civil rights leader in CongressIn Congress, the soft-spoken Lewis was known for his work on voting rights. He long fought for more access to the polls, particularly for voters of color. In December, he banged the gavel in the House signaling passage of a voting rights bill he had championed. A close ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Lewis served in leadership posts. But the Georgia Democrat's real power came from his stature as a civil rights icon. Lewis was one of the first lawmakers new members wanted to meet and he remained a revered figure, both by Republicans and Democrats, until his death. "How fitting it is that even in the last weeks of his battle with cancer, John summoned the strength to visit the peaceful protests where the newest generation of Americans had poured into the streets to take up the unfinished work of racial justice," Pelosi said in a statement after Lewis' death. "In the Congress, John Lewis was revered and beloved on both sides of the aisle and both sides of the Capitol." Lewis often feuded with President Donald Trump, clashing over civil rights and voting rights. In September, Lewis urged his colleagues to begin impeachment proceedings against the president, telling them: "the future of our democracy is at stake." He boycotted Trump's inauguration after the president attacked him and his congressional district via Twitter. Lewis called Trump's presidency illegitimate because of the Russian government's clandestine campaign to sway the election in his favor. In 2017, the congressman boycotted the opening of a civil rights museum in Mississippi because Trump was invited. Lewis and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus attended a separate ceremony. Lewis called out Trump for his tweet last year telling four congresswomen of color to "go back" to their countries of origin. More: 'Man of character and dignity': Civil rights icon John Lewis endorses Joe Biden on Wisconsin primary day "I know racism when I see it,'' Lewis said in response. He embraced the Black Lives Movement, telling the Washington Post in an interview in June that he was "inspired" to see throngs of people marching in the United States and around the world. Last month, in one of his last public appearances Lewis joined Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser at Black Lives Matter Plaza. The two posed for pictures where the yellow letters of Black Lives Matter are painted on the street leading up to the White House. A best-selling author, he championed civil rights throughout his career. His graphic memoir, "MARCH," won the National Book Award for children's literature in 2016. He led an annual pilgrimage back to Selma, Alabama, where he and other members of Congress marched across the Edmund-Pettus bridge to commemorate the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery. This year's participants weren't sure Lewis would attend because of his health, yet he still showed up and told the crowd surrounding him: "We must vote like we've never voted before. That's a challenge for us still." "I think it's so fitting and so right that this group is able to go there and to go back to that site … where (King) said, 'I have seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you, but as a people we will get there,'" Lewis told USA TODAY. In 2016, Lewis led a sit-in of Democratic lawmakers on the House floor, halting legislative business as they demanded a vote on gun control legislation. "What is the tipping point? Are we blind? Can we see? How many more mothers, how many more fathers need to shed tears of grief before we do something?" he said then. Lewis was married 44 years to Lillian Lewis, who died in 2012 at age 73. Indonesia flash flooding death toll rises to more than 30 - Irvine Times Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:08 PM PDT The death toll from flash floods in Indonesia's South Sulawesi province rose to 32 on Thursday with 16 people still missing, officials said. National Search and Rescue Agency spokesman Yusuf Latif said rain continued to fall as hundreds of rescuers searched on Thursday for the missing villagers. The floods began on Saturday evening when heavy rains caused three rivers to overflow. The six sub-districts affected by the floods are far from the provincial capital, Makassar, and rescuers were hampered by thick mud covering the roads that made the areas difficult to reach. "It is difficult to pass through the areas," Mr Latid said. "We are also having communication difficulties," Latid said. Heavy rains cause frequent flash floods and landslides in Indonesia, where millions of people live in mountainous areas or near flood plains. Naya Rivera fans to hold vigil for the late actress - NME Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:48 PM PDT A vigil has been organised by fans of Naya Rivera to take place at Lake Piru, California, where the actress tragically died, aged 33. Rivera, an actress, model and singer, was best known for her breakout role as Santana Lopez in Glee. Rivera was reported missing on Wednesday July 8 after taking a boat trip at the popular waterway with her four-year-old son, Josey. The child was found asleep on the boat three hours after it had been rented. Rivera's body was found on July 13 after local officials commenced a recovery mission. Advertisement In a tweet posted by the fan page NayaRiveraArmy, an invitation was given to attend a vigil on Saturday August 1 to "celebrate her life and see the joy she brought to many of her fans". "It's a little far away mostly to give people that are travelling, time to take off work and be able to be a part of this," the account wrote. "Time is at 5 since it gets hot but doesn't mean you can't be there before. I hope many of you can make it! Share it to those you think might want to go!"
It's not known if any of Rivera's family will attend the vigil, however, several of the actress's Glee co-stars were seen visiting the sight the day her body was found. In a tragic coincidence, the day of Rivera's passing was also the anniversary of the death of Glee actor Cory Monteith, who died from a drug overdose in 2013. Transfer news and rumours LIVE: Manchester United close in on £100m Sancho - Goal.com Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:42 PM PDT Jose Mourinho believes Tottenham need to be realistic when it comes to what they can do in the transfer market in the close season. Spurs will miss out on Champions League qualification and, as it stands, need to finish sixth to be sure of Europa League qualification. Tottenham trail sixth-placed Wolves by a point with two games to go but are on a four-game unbeaten run, which includes a North London derby win over Arsenal, who could deny Spurs European football by winning the FA Cup. Indonesian policemen jailed for acid attack on graft investigator - WTVB News Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:08 PM PDT by By Agustinus Beo Da Costa JAKARTA (Reuters) - Two Indonesian policemen involved in a 2017 motorcycle acid attack on a senior graft investigator were jailed on Thursday for up to two years, longer terms than the prosecution had sought. The investigator, Novel Baswedan, who was left partially blind, has said he believes the attack, as he was walking home from the mosque, was connected to corruption cases he was handling at the time. Rahmat Kadir Mahulette was jailed for two years, while his colleague, Ronny Bugis, was jailed for one and a half years, the judge said in a streamed ruling. Mahulette threw the acid from the passenger seat while Bugis rode the motorcycle. "(They were) found guilty to have committed violence that leads to heavy injury," he said. Prosecutors had sought one year's jail for both men. In January last year, police formed a fact-finding team to investigate the attack, but came up empty-handed. President Joko Widodo ordered that a new police chief, appointed in November, solve the case by the end of the year. Baswedan had said in December that it would be easy to solve his case and that it was just a matter of will. He told Reuters on Thursday the trial was a "mere play" and that those who ordered the attack had never been found. "I'm worried that this trial is a clear reflection of how the state does not support anti-corruption efforts," he told Reuters. Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:08 PM PDT Donald Trump's hopes of being re-elected in November appear to have been dealt a major blow after his Democrat challenger Joe Biden opened up a 15% lead in a new national opinion poll. To make matters worse for the US president, the data suggests voters are losing faith in his handling of the economy, which Mr Trump has long seen as his key to winning a second term. More than half (52%) of the 1,273 voters surveyed by Quinnipiac University between 9 July and 13 July said they would support Mr Biden in the presidential election, with 37% saying they would back Mr Trump. The university's poll last month had the split at a slightly narrower 49% to 41% in Mr Biden's favour. On the day the president replaced his campaign manager, it emerged the US public seem to be questioning whether he is the best candidate to manage the economy. Again, more than half (53%) of those surveyed by Quinnipiac University said they disapproved of his performance on that front - compared to 44% who backed him. The month before, his efforts were supported by 52% against 45%. But there was better news for Mr Trump regarding his handling of the economy in another poll released on Thursday. An NBC/Wall Street Journal (WSJ) survey found that 54% of registered voters still approved of his work on the economy against 42% who disapprove. It was all grim reading for Mr Trump in the Quinnipiac poll, however, which also found 60% of voters are unhappy with the overall job the president is doing, against 35% who approve. :: Listen to Divided States on Apple podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Spreaker Participants in the Quinnipiac poll said Mr Biden would do a better job on handling the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, health care and racial inequality. The former vice president also leads his Republican opponent in voters' eyes on honesty, leadership skills and caring about average Americans. And in another bad sign for the president, the NBC/WSJ poll also found 57% of voters would rather vote for a candidate who is more focused on controlling the spread of COVID-19, while only 25% would back someone who will focus on reopening businesses. As his poll numbers have dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr Trump has been urging businesses to reopen to get the economy firing again before November's ballot. But many state governors have been more cautious and some states, having reopened, have locked down again after experiencing a surge in cases. More than 137,000 Americans have died after testing positive for COVID-19 and the US comfortably leads the world in confirmed cases with more than 3.5 million, according to figures being tracked by Johns Hopkins University. Jeyaraj and Benicks: Why was a viral video on custodial deaths taken down? - BBC News Posted: 17 Jul 2020 07:47 PM PDT An Instagram video about the custodial deaths of a father and son in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu was instrumental in getting the case national attention. But now Suchitra Ramadurai has taken down her video. She spoke to the BBC's Andrew Clarance about why. "Hi, I'm Suchitra, and I'm south Indian and I hate how every south Indian issue just remains a south Indian issue because we don't talk about it in English." This was the opening line of Ms Ramadurai's video, that went on to get millions of views in India and across the world. Armed with details from the case filed by the victims' family, and matching eyewitness reports, she then goes on to explain in graphic detail what happened to P Jeyaraj, 58, and his son Benicks, 38, who were arrested and held an entire night at the Sathankulam police station in Tuticorin town. They died within hours of each other two days later. Relatives of the two men say the men were subjected to brutal torture and even sexual abuse after they were picked up for allegedly keeping their stores open past permitted hours - Tamil Nadu is still observing a lockdown to curb the spread of Covid. Ms Ramadurai, a singer, and a radio jockey with a popular radio station in Chennai (formerly Madras) is a familiar name in Tamil Nadu's capital city. She ends the video saying, "Let's fight the system. Wherever you are in the world, share this video." What followed was extraordinary. Her video ended up getting more than 20 million views and set off a chain reaction across social media. Video posts detailing the case started popping up in regional languages, calling for justice for the two men. It then made it way on to national news with trends emerging on Twitter and Instagram as politicians, cricketers, business personalities, comedians and Bollywood actors tweeted about the case. With mounting national outrage over the incident, the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation - a federal investigation agency. Since then, five policemen have been arrested and charged with murder in relation to the custodial deaths. Days later, five more police personnel, including a sub-Inspector, were arrested. The officers who were accused in the deaths were initially transferred. But as demands for more severe action grew, they were suspended. It was at this point that Ms Ramadurai says she was asked to delete the video by the Tamil Nadu police. The police say that she has "falsely exaggerated and sensationalized the chain of events," and is not backed by proof." In a statement released on Twitter, the police said that Ms Ramadurai video was promoting hatred against the police. Ms Ramadurai said that an officer of the state's criminal investigation department asked her to delete the video as the details in the video were in direct contrast to what was mentioned in the post-mortem report of the two men. "I asked her for a copy of the post-mortem report but she said no" Ms Ramadurai told the BBC, adding that the officer told her that it was a sealed document sent directly to the judge in the case. "I'm surprised then how she got to see it and point out inaccuracies in my video, if it is a sealed document." But Ms Ramadurai said she then took down the video on the advice of her lawyer. Police brutality is a serious problem in India. A report by a consortium of NGOs against custodial torture have released a report in which they say 1,731 people died in custody in India during 2019. This works out to around five custodial deaths a day. Speaking to the BBC, a former Inspector-general of Police in the southern state of Karnataka, Gopal Hosur, said it was important for policemen to go by the rule book. "When a person is in your custody, he is helpless, there is no question using these methods. You can gather evidence by means other than using force," he said. And Ms Ramadurai remains defiant. Even though she deleted the video, she feels that its job has been done and people can't be fooled by statements. "This video spread mainly because of 90s kids and millennials. Larkspur mobile home owner postpones rent hike for tenants - Marin Independent Journal Posted: 17 Jul 2020 07:44 PM PDT The owners of Larkspur's Marin Park have pushed off a rent hike for mobile home tenants, but many say a long-term agreement may be out of reach. A June 1 rent increase of about $75 was planned, but was deferred until August, said Gabe Paulson, a Larkspur councilman who sits on an ad hoc city committee studying the issue. A second extension until October 1 was granted last week. Marin Park manager Kristine Guerra said the economic climate created by the pandemic made the move a challenge. "It's difficult to defer a rent increase when we are already losing money," said. "But on the other side of things it was the best thing to do for our tenants." The City Council at its meeting Wednesday directed the committee to continue working to find a long-term agreement that benefits the park and its tenants. Paulson said long-term rent discussions have been on hold awaiting the outcome of Senate Bill 999 and Assembly Bill 2895 in the Legislature. SB 999 would close a loophole that does not allow for rent-control agreements with mobile-home leases that exceed 12 months, while AB 2895 would impose a statewide rent-control cap on mobile homes. "Both pieces of legislation have passed their respective houses and would currently be debated right now in the California Assembly and Senate," he said, adding that the deliberation was delayed due to the pandemic. He said action on the bills must be taken by Aug. 31. Meanwhile, the city's ad hoc committee has been working to broker an agreement over rent control. The committee was established in December after tenants expressed concern about continued rent hikes that could price people out of their homes. "We sort of bifurcated the current situation into short-term and long-term relief," Paulson said. "And I think we've achieved short-term relief with the two-month extensions, twice. I don't think long-term relief has been really meaningfully put on the table yet." Bridget Gleason, a Marin Park resident, said, "We are committed to working together with the owners and with the ad hoc committee, but we don't have a lot of optimism around the ability of a long-term agreement to be successful, nor have other mobile home parks throughout the state had very much success with that." She added that tenants are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the proposed legislation to protect mobile-home renters. "We are hopeful, obviously, about the state legislation, which may obviate the need to even continue anything other than working together on other things which we have started doing," Gleason said. Paulson said he and Vice Mayor Kevin Haroff, also a member of the ad hoc committee, sit on the Chamber of Commerce's small-business fund group. He said there is an increasing awareness of the impact of the pandemic on small businesses like Marin Park. Guerra said the park has not received any financial assistance from the chamber. She added that the restrictions on short-term rentals due to the pandemic has cut revenue considerably, and many tenants have left the mobile park after losing their jobs. "Our main issue is being shut down for short-term rentals," she said. "Our RV park in summer is usually sold out. We were shut down for months until we were allowed to open June 29, but now we are only allowed to open every other space, which significantly hinders our business." The county expressed interest in purchasing Marin Park last year to preserve affordable housing for workers, said Marin County Supervisor Dennis Rodoni. "The Marin Park mobile homes are a valued community asset," Rodoni said. "I appreciate the owner postponing rent increases during these difficult times." Posted: 17 Jul 2020 07:42 PM PDT Christian Pulisic has acknowledged that Premier League defenders are starting to become more physical with him as the Chelsea winger joked that he is adjusted to rough treatment from his time playing in CONCACAF matches with the U.S. men's national team. Pulisic has been in incredible form since the Premier League's restart, having provided three goals and an assist in seven matches for Chelsea. After overcoming an initial adjustment period as well as a mid-season injury, Pulisic has become a vital part of the Chelsea team, drawing comparisons to former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard shied away from those comparisons, but was full of praise for the American's ability to score and create goals in recent weeks. However, as Pulisic has found success, he has also found a response, with the 21-year-old the recipient of a number of fouls. Over the last five games, Pulisic has been fouled 11 times and, when asked about the rough treatment on SiriusXM Radio, the American defender said that it's nothing new. Pulisic is routinely a target of foul play in CONCACAF, a region notorious for opposition's harsh treatment of stars, and those experiences have helped prepare him for life in the Premier League. "When players start to get to know you more, watch films, see how you play, then it is normal," Pulisic said of the physicality. "With how I play it is normal, they do anything they can to take you off your game. "It is a physical league, I have been kicked a few times in CONCACAF a few times well so I am used to it. I will be alright!" Chelsea are at a vital point in their season, with the Blues pursuing a top-four place and the Champions League berth that comes with it. Like all teams, Pulisic and Chelsea have faced a condensed schedule since the Premier League's restart, with the Blues also still competing in the FA Cup and Champions League. As a result, their schedule won't let up in the coming weeks and, although he admits this period has been gruelling, Pulisic says the potential rewards will all be worth it. "It is tough right now, honestly, I am not used to this many games," he said. "The schedule has been pretty crazy since we have been back. It is good, there's not a lot of time to dwell after each game, it is just regeneration and we go for the next one so I have just been enjoying it. He added: "I just try to take it game by game. You can't think three games left and grind it out. You have to push for the next one, be ready for the next game, be ready and make sure my body is right. We have a big game coming up, multiple competitions and we want as many games as possible. "Beat Man United and get to a final, get a top four spot. Bayern is not going to be easy by any means, but we are never going to give up and we want to go on in that competition as well." Posted: 17 Jul 2020 07:42 PM PDT Pep Guardiola has "no doubts" that Thiago Alcantara can play in the Premier League, with the Liverpool target considered to be an "exceptional player". Thiago has spent the last seven years of his career on the books of Bayern Munich, where he has picked up 14 major trophies, including seven Bundesliga titles. The Spain international has scored 31 goals in 231 appearances for the German champions in total, while also laying on 37 assists, and he has continued to enjoy a prominent role in their starting XI throughout the 2019-20 season. However, Thiago has reportedly turned down the chance to extend his stay at Allianz Arena beyond 2021, with Bayern now expected to cash in on an influential figure when the transfer window reopens. Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed as much during an interview with Bild earlier this month, stating: "We had serious negotiations with him and fulfilled all of his wishes. "But it looks like he might want to do something new again at the end of his career." Anfield has been mooted as the midfielder's most likely next destination, with Jurgen Klopp thought to be keen on a player who began his professional career at Barcelona. Guardiola was the man who gave Thiago his first taste of senior football at Camp Nou, and he also worked with a fellow Spaniard for three seasons at Bayern between 2013 and 2016. Having witnessed the ex-Barca star's talents up close, the current Manchester City boss is confident he has all the necessary attributes to succeed in the English top-flight, but has stopped short of predicting where he will end up plying his trade next season. When asked to comment on Thiago's links to Liverpool at a press conference on Friday, Guardiola responded: "No doubt about it. A player who plays for Barcelona and Bayern Munich can play in the Premier League. "Of course he can play. He's an exceptional player, but I don't know what he's going to do." Thiago and Bayern wrapped up their domestic campaign by securing the double with a 4-2 DFB Cup final victory against Bayer Leverkusen on July 4, but they could yet complete a treble when the Champions League gets back underway in August. Hansi Flick's side have one foot in the quarter-finals already, after beating Chelsea 3-0 in the first leg of their last-16 tie at Stamford Bridge back in February.
Trump's niece insists she has heard him being antisemitic and using the n-word - indy100 Posted: 17 Jul 2020 07:08 PM PDT Donald Trump's niece Mary Trump, who has written a shocking tell-all book about her uncle, has confirmed that she has heard the president use racist and antisemitic slurs. During an eye-opening interview on MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show, Mary Trump revealed numerous unsavoury allegations about the current commander in chief. In an unsurprising or perhaps shocking revelation, depending on your perception of the president, Mary claimed that she had heard Trump use numerous derogatory slurs after being pressed on the issue by Maddow. The reporter said:
Trump replied:
Maddow momentarily paused before adding:
Trump simply replied "yeah" to which Maddow said:
Once again the answer from Trump was "yes." The 55-year-old had previously said that this type of language was commonplace in her family but that she didn't share these views or ideologies despite how frequent racism was expressed within her family.
You can watch the full interview in the video below. Earlier this week, Mary Trump had given another interview, this time to The Washington Post where she had also said that this type of language was very common amongst the Trump family when she was growing up.
Mary Trump's book which is called Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man has already become a best-seller after revealing several damaging claims about the president such as him paying someone to sit exams for him, his families poor treatment of his troubled brother Fred Jr and him compliment Mary on her breasts. The president unsuccessfully tried to have the book blocked from being published and denies much of its content. Posted: 17 Jul 2020 06:44 PM PDT You might not have what it takes to throw a pitch for the Seattle Mariners, but you can at least stand around on the mound and watch. Virtually at least. T-Mobile and the Mariners are teaming for another unique experience tied to the return of Major League Baseball, as they continue to look for ways to engage fans who can't be at T-Mobile Park because of the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, a 360-degree high definition livestream — riding on T-Mobile's wireless network — will stream on the Mariners' YouTube channel at 1:30 p.m. PT. Shot during batting practice, the livestream is intended to put fans in the middle of the action and will allow them to feel like they're standing on the field. As T-Mobile puts it, it provides "a glimpse of how wireless networks will transform sporting events in the future through new and immersive experiences." Because of the unique nature of the health crisis and the fact that teams will have to play with no one in the stands, the Mariners are trying to bring more fans in online. The team is streaming daily practice sessions on YouTube as part of their Summer Camp at T-Mobile Park. And they're running a promotion encouraging fans to "virtually cheer" by recording themselves and sending that content for use by the team during games. Starr Co. acquires mobile morgue as virus continues to overwhelm hospital - Monitor Posted: 17 Jul 2020 05:44 PM PDT Last weekend, Starr County Memorial Hospital received a refrigerated truck that will serve as a mobile morgue if the number of COVID-19 deaths there become overwhelming. Dr. Jose Vazquez, the county's health authority, said the hospital has, fortunately, not needed to use the mobile morgue yet but Starr County Judge Eloy Vera requested the truck from the state. "Basically the situation is we don't have a morgue in our hospital, we don't have a refrigerated room for bodies and the funeral homes are running at capacity too," Vazquez said. "They are finding it difficult to meet the demand." Without one, the county could have faced a significant sanitary problem, Vazquez said. Before acquiring the truck, Vazquez said they found themselves in a situation of not knowing where to dispose of a patient's remains. The patient was an unidentified, an undocumented woman in her 20s. "We didn't have a way to dispose of her remains and in the end it ended in one of those mobile units, but in (Doctors Hospital at Renaissance)," he said. "In lieu of that, we kind of took the suggestion from the state to get one of those units here so the judge requested." The unit has the capacity for 50 bodies and, if the hospitals have to use it, the remains will be stored there until funeral homes have the time and availability to handle them. "Just on the presumption and in an abundance of caution, we chose to have it here in case that the situation was to arrive," Vazquez said. "So we have, at least, a sanitary way to dispose of those remains without causing a further problem in the health of the county." As to the general situation at the hospital, Vazquez said the volume of COVID-19 hospitalizations keep rising. The hospital is now at full capacity, with all of its 29 COVID-19 beds occupied. There are two regular, non-coronavirus beds available that might have to be used for virus patients, if they run out of other options. "Other than that, basically start keeping patients in the emergency room until the emergency room is full and at that point, it's going to be a tough situation," Vazquez said. The hospital also has six intubated patients that need to be transferred because Starr County Memorial Hospital does not have intensive care unit services.
