Giggs explains how Solskajer overhauled Man Utd's transfer policy - Goal Posted: 23 May 2020 12:42 AM PDT Ryan Giggs has expressed his admiration for Ole Gunnar Solskaer's transfer policy at Manchester United, saying the manager's focus on recruiting good characters is paying off. Solskaer has made a number of successful signings during his time at Old Trafford, as the likes of Harry Maguire, Daniel James and Bruno Fernandes have taken well to life with the Red Devils. Giggs has explained that his former team-mate has prioritised off-field character as much as on-field ability during his time in charge at Old Trafford. "Dan's not only a talented player," Giggs told MUTV Group Chat of James. "He's a really good character and a solid lad. He wants to improve and that's what I've seen over the last 18 months. "Every time I went to watch him at Swansea, he was getting better and better and he's had a great start to his United career. He's a United player as well and someone who United fans will enjoy watching. He'll beat men, he'll make things happen and, of course, he has that devastating speed. "But as I said, more than that for me, is he's a really good character. I think that's what Ole has tried to do over the last months, have some really good characters in the dressing room." Fernandes in particular has had a major impact in a short time at Old Trafford, tallying three goals and four assists in just nine matches after moving from Sporting CP in January. The Portugal international helped United to an 11-game unbeaten run that ran up until football was halted due to the pandemic. "It was a shame we had to pause the season because we were flying," Giggs added. "Ole started his management with United flying, then had a tough spell, and then we were on a good run. But, like I said earlier, the players he's got in have been really impressive. "They've improved the team and the dressing room and obviously, in Fernandes, we've seen over the years the effect one player can sometimes have. "You talk about the Eric Cantonas, the Robin van Persies… and I'm not comparing him yet to them but he's made other players play better and he's given everyone a lift. I still think we need four or five players but we're definitely going in the right direction." Posted: 23 May 2020 12:40 AM PDT Gossip mill: Zhou Xun and hubby American actor Archie Kao rumoured to have divorced - and other entertainment news this week - AsiaOne Zhou Xun and hubby American actor Archie Kao rumoured to have divorcedCelebrity couple Zhou Xun and Archie Kao have been dogged by divorce rumours since reports about their rocky marriage surfaced over the years. In 2018, they were reportedly finalising their divorce though Archie's manager rubbished the claims. However, the American actor was recently observed by netizens to have deleted all of his images with Zhou Xun from his Instagram account. His mysterious act once again fanned the flames and netizens are speculating that their relationship is over. While there hasn't been any comments from either party, the media reported that on May 20 (a romantic day in Chinese culture), Zhou Xun wrote to her fans: "We are now starting a beautiful life again, everyone is still here and we are still with each other. I hope you can be safe and healthy, and may life be full of sunshine." Cryptic. Tony Leung at risk of losing $1.2 million in forced property sale[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/B46ojr6pMg0/[/embed] He's one of the top celebrity investors and one of Asia's richest stars, but Tony Leung could stand to lose HK$6.61 million (S$1.2 million) should a forced auction for one of his properties go through. As developers snap up land for redevelopment, a consortium filed an application for compulsory auction through Hong Kong's Lands Tribunal. Tony's shop in To Kwa Wan was purchased in December 2013 at HK$15 million, but is now valued at only HK$8.39 million. Sure, some might argue a million dollars is a small sum to the semi-retired actor but that's still a hefty loss of nearly 50 per cent. Tony has yet to speak about the issue as he continues to prepare for his role as The Mandarin in the Marvel movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in Australia. Dee Hsu admits to 'fine-tuning' procedures for her faceCelebrities look great even when they age, and now, one has (finally) admitted the secret beauty regime is more than just fancy skincare products and "lots of water". After she was spotted at a medical clinic, Taiwanese host-actress Dee Hsu reportedly admitted that she went for 'fine-tuning' procedures to tighten the skin on her face. According to Chinese media, when she was spotted at the clinic and asked point-blank if she was getting work done, the 41-year-old quipped: "I'm not a car, I don't need to be fixed! It's 'fine-tuning' to tighten my face because I lost a lot of weight recently." She explained she piled on the kilos while staying home during the Covid-19 pandemic, and her weight rose to 49kg. But she shed 3kg in one week (under the encouragement of her husband) by eating poached food, cutting out alcohol, and exercising relentlessly. bryanlim@asiaone.com rainercheung@asiaone.com 2020-05-23 01:35:48Z https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/CBMieWh0dHBzOi8vd3d3LmFzaWFvbmUuY29tL2VudGVydGFpbm1lbnQvZ29zc2lwLW1pbGwtemhvdS14dW4tYW5kLWh1YmJ5LWFtZXJpY2FuLWFjdG9yLWFyY2hpZS1rYW8tcnVtb3VyZWQtaGF2ZS1kaXZvcmNlZC1hbmTSAX1odHRwczovL3d3dy5hc2lhb25lLmNvbS9lbnRlcnRhaW5tZW50L2dvc3NpcC1taWxsLXpob3UteHVuLWFuZC1odWJieS1hbWVyaWNhbi1hY3Rvci1hcmNoaWUta2FvLXJ1bW91cmVkLWhhdmUtZGl2b3JjZWQtYW5kP2FtcA?oc=5 |

'Complete inaccuracies': Viral Facebook post about COVID-19 tests debunked - ABC News Posted: 22 May 2020 10:47 PM PDT CoronaCheck is RMIT ABC Fact Check's regular email newsletter dedicated to fighting the misinformation infodemic surrounding the coronavirus outbreak. You can read the latest edition below, and subscribe to have the next newsletter delivered straight to your inbox. CoronaCheck #19A couple of weeks ago we reported a story on Clive Palmer and his claim that the use of the drug hydroxychloroquine had been a major factor in the Australia's low number of COVID-19 deaths. He made that claim after announcing he'd bought 33 million doses of the drug to donate to Australia's medical stockpile. We've now fact checked that claim, and found it to be baseless. We've also looked at a claim made by Agriculture Minister David Littleproud that Australia has the "most secure food security in the world". We found that claim to be in the ballpark. Also investigated by us this week: a Facebook post attributed to the Department of Health claims common coronavirus tests can't distinguish COVID-19 from other illnesses. The Department told us that was incorrect. Facebook post about PCR tests contains 'complete inaccuracies'A post shared widely on Facebook and attributed to the Department of Health claims that tests for the novel coronavirus, known as SARS-COV-2, are not able to distinguish the virus from other illnesses. "It should be noted that PCR tests cannot distinguish between "live" virus and non-infective RNA," the post states. "This means the test cannot [distinguish] covid from a cold or measles or ebola." As Australian Medical Association ACT President Antonio Di Dio explained to the ABC in March, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests are the most widely used COVID-19 tests in Australia, and work by taking a "fingerprint" of RNA from a patient. "In the context of COVID-19, you get a piece of the RNA from a swab of the patient, you double it, then again and again," Dr Di Dio said. "Until you have millions of copies." Within a few hours, the sample would be large enough to see whether COVID-19 is present. A caption alongside the Facebook post claims the information has been taken "from [the Department of Health's] own website". In a statement, a department spokesman told RMIT ABC Fact Check the post contained "selectively chosen information taken out of context" from a factsheet for clinicians, along with "complete inaccuracies". "The factsheet is actually dealing with COVID-19 positive people continuing to test positive after the infectious period has passed," the spokesman said. "It is true that the PCR may still result in a positive test, because of remaining non-infectious viral load within the patient." He said the test would not detect any pathogen other than the SARS-COV-2 virus. Clive Palmer's baseless hydroxychloroquine claimTouted by some as a miracle cure for COVID-19, the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine was thrust into the spotlight again this week when US President Donald Trump revealed he was taking it to avoid contracting the illness. The drug recently made headlines in Australia when outspoken businessman Clive Palmer donated almost 33 million doses — reportedly more than the equivalent of entire US stocks — to Australia's national medical stockpile. In a series of newspaper ads and TV interviews, Mr Palmer claimed hydroxychloroquine was behind Australia's low mortality rate, which he said had fallen since the drug was made available to treat hospitalised coronavirus patients in early April. But can Australia's success be linked to the drug? Fact Check asked the experts and found Mr Palmer's claim to be baseless. In fact, the drug was already available to hospital patients, and experts said the death curve had flattened because just a few weeks earlier the case curve had done the same. The jury is still out on whether the drug works as a treatment for COVID-19. However, the evidence isn't promising. Given the known risks of hydroxychloroquine, Australia's medicines regulatory body strongly advises against giving it to coronavirus patients in the absence of positive clinical trial results. David Littleproud is in the ballpark on food securityIt feels like ancient history, but for a time, just a few short weeks ago, supermarket shelves normally filled with toilet paper, pasta, flour and cleaning supplies were bare and the Prime Minister labelled the apparent cause, panic buying, "ridiculous" and "not sensible". Despite those scenes, federal Agriculture Minister David Littleproud recently declared that Australia had "the most secure food security in the world". "We're a nation of 25 million people," Mr Littleproud told ABC Radio National's Afternoon Briefing program on May 11. "We produce enough food for 75 million." In a fact check published earlier this week, we found that claim to be in the ballpark. Many studies and experts say Australia enjoys a very high level of food security, exports far more than it needs and has ample alternative sources of certain foods should they become scarce. In terms of Australia's international ranking, we're not quite the most food secure nation but one comparison places us 12th among 113 countries in terms of food security. Twitter 'super spreaders'NewsGuard, a self-described "internet trust tool", has published a list of Twitter "super spreaders" — accounts that "repeat, share and amplify" coronavirus misinformation and myths to large numbers of followers. The 10 accounts listed by NewsGuard reach a combined 3.3 million followers and have continued to publish misinformation despite Twitter announcing a crackdown on March 18 in a bid to address the so-called "infodemic". Included in the list are the accounts of former Nigerian politician Femi Fani-Kayode, conservative radio commentator Bill Mitchell and former British footballer David Icke. The accounts have propagated myths including that COVID-19 does not exist and that zinc or herbal remedies can prevent or cure the virus, and are spreading unproven claims about the effect of 5G technology on the virus. Even more misinformation about Bill GatesMisinformation about Bill Gates and his involvement in global public health seems to spread exponentially with each passing day, with the billionaire tech founder and philanthropist the alleged 'villain' in a number of convoluted coronavirus conspiracy theories. This week, fact checkers at India Today found that a photo of Mr Gates and top US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci apparently flaunting social distancing and face mask rules was taken in December 2018, long before the coronavirus outbreak. Another claim linking the men, which suggested that Dr Fauci served on Microsoft's board of directors, was found to be false by AP Fact Check. Though not related to the coronavirus, a rumour has also been spread online that Mr Gates visited disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein's private island multiple times. That claim, too, is false, according to Reuters. Meanwhile, Politifact found that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was not set to make a profit from the development of a coronavirus vaccine, while Reuters found that Mr Gates did not present to the Pentagon a plan to immunise religious fanatics. Speaking of religion, Reuters also found Mr Gates had not advocated for the permanent banning of religious gatherings. Melinda Gates has also been the victim of online rumours, including a claim, debunked by Snopes, that she wore a satanic symbol during a TV interview. From Washington, D.C.US President Donald Trump this week claimed that he had been taking hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 preventative, prompting scorn from political adversaries including House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat. "He's our president, and I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists, especially in his age group and, shall we say, his weight group, [which] is morbidly obese, they say," Ms Pelosi told CNN. While her comments were met with glee by some, others have accused her of "fat shaming". But was her comment accurate? Not quite, according to fact checkers at PolitiFact, who found that based on figures from Mr Trump's latest physical examination he would not be considered "morbidly obese" by medical standards. Weighing in at 243 pounds (110 kilograms) and measuring 6 feet 3 inches (191 centimetres), Mr Trump just falls into the obese category. And while some pundits have questioned the official height and weight figures provided by Mr Trump, PolitiFact found that he would need to be shorter than 5 feet 8 inches (173 centimetres) and weigh 260 pounds (118 kilograms) to be classified "morbidly obese". Posted: 22 May 2020 10:08 PM PDT Issued on: Modified: A Pakistan International Airlines Airbus jet with 99 people aboard crashed into the city of Karachi on Friday while approaching the airport. Advertising At least 56 people were confirmed to have died, hospital officials told Reuters, though other officials gave different figures and authorities did not release an estimate of casualties on the ground. Two passengers survived, including Zafar Masood, president of the Bank of Punjab, a Sindh provincial government spokesman said. The bank said he had suffered fractures but was "conscious and responding well". The other survivor, engineer Muhammad Zubair, told Geo News the pilot came down for one landing, briefly touched down, then took off again. After around 10 more minutes of flying, the pilot announced to passengers he was going to go around for a second go, then crashed as he approached the runway, Zubair said from his bed in Civil Hospital Karachi. "All I could see around was smoke and fire," he added. "I could hear screams from all directions. Kids and adults. All I could see was fire. I couldn't see any people – just hear their screams. "I opened my seat belt and saw some light – I went towards the light. I had to jump down about 10 feet to get to safety."
'We have lost engines' Smoke billowed from the scene where flight PK 8303 came down at about 2:45 p.m. (0945 GMT). Twisted fuselage lay in the rubble of multi-storey buildings as ambulances rushed through chaotic crowds. The crash happened on the eve of the Muslim festival of Eid, when Pakistanis travel to visit relatives. "The aeroplane first hit a mobile tower and crashed over houses," witness Shakeel Ahmed said near the site, a few kilometres short of the airport. The Airbus A320 was flying from the eastern city of Lahore to Karachi in the south with 91 passengers and eight crew, civil aviation authorities said, just as Pakistan was resuming domestic flights in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. A total of 56 bodies were brought to JPMC hospital and the Civil Hospital Karachi, officials from both institutions said. The airline's chief executive, Arshad Malik, told reporters he knew of 41 confirmed deaths. Seconds before the crash, the pilot told air traffic controllers he had lost power from both engines, according to a recording posted on liveatc.net, a widely respected aviation monitoring website. "We are returning back, sir, we have lost engines," a man was heard saying in a recording released by the website. The controller freed up both the airport's runways but moments later the man called "Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!". 'Immediate inquiry' There was no further communication from the plane, according to the tape, which could not immediately be authenticated. "The last we heard from the pilot was that he has some technical problem ... It is a very tragic incident," said the state carrier's spokesman, Abdullah H. Khan. Another senior civil aviation official told Reuters it appeared the plane had been unable to lower its undercarriage for the first approach due to a technical fault, but it was too early to determine the cause. Aviation safety experts say air crashes typically have multiple causes, and that it is too early to understand them within the first hours or days. Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted: "Shocked & saddened by the PIA crash ... Immediate inquiry will be instituted. Prayers & condolences go to families of the deceased." Airbus said the jet first flew in 2004 and was fitted with engines built by CFM International, co-owned by General Electric and France's Safran. Indonesians Prepare For Eid Holiday Amid Concerns Over Spread Of COVID-19 - KPBS Posted: 22 May 2020 09:08 PM PDT In Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim country, this weekend's Eid al-Fitr holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan will involve mass travel, raising concerns about the effect it may have on the country's COVID-19 infection rates. President Joko Widodo has said he will not yet ease large-scale social restrictions, insisting his government aims to keep citizens safe. But his administration has loosened some constraints by allowing public transportation to resume, including airlines, at 50% of capacity. Images have circulated on social media showing Jakarta's main airport packed with passengers ignoring physical-distancing rules. In the midst of a coronavirus pandemic that saw nearly 1,000 new cases in a single day this week, the human "hurricane" this year will carry an estimated 20 million people, says Aaron Connelly, a research fellow with the Singapore-based International Institute for Strategic Studies. Eid is to Indonesia what Christmas is the U.S., says Elina Ciptadi, a co-founder of Kawal COVID-19, which is monitoring the pandemic's effects in Indonesia. "Large family gatherings," she says. "Religious gatherings. Open houses. People share meals." And now, she worries, "People go back to their hometowns, bringing the previously 'big cities' disease into small towns and villages across Indonesia." Indonesia, with a population of 260 million, has confirmed more than 20,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 1,320 deaths, but many suspect the numbers are not a true reflection of the disease's reach. Some gravediggers have reported working 15 hours a day, seven days a week, to dispose of bodies. "The ambulances never stop bringing us bodies," one digger told Agence France-Presse. The heavy workload of gravediggers in Jakarta is highlighting a significant undercounting of deaths related to COVID-19, Connelly tells NPR. He says in March, "There were a lot more burials going on in Jakarta than there had been in any month in 2018 and 2019." Reuters reported that the March burial figure for Jakarta was the highest since such data began being collected a decade ago, nearly one-third higher than any month in that period. "I'm struggling to find another reason than unreported COVID-19 deaths," City Governor Anies Baswedan told Reuters. Death statistics from the provinces include the number of "patients under surveillance" or those with COVID-19 symptoms who have not been confirmed as being infected. Connelly says the central government has not included these patients in its tally and counts only deaths where COVID-19 has been confirmed through testing, which is in short supply. Connelly says the number of deaths related to COVID-19 nationally appears to be over 5,000. On top of the official figure, "As of a week ago, there were at least an additional 3,833 who had died," he says, based on the provinces' statistics. When asked why suspected COVID-19 cases were not included in the national death total, the Health Ministry's disease control and prevention director general, Achmad Yurianto, told the Jakarta Post, "We have the data, but we are not going to announce it to the public willy-nilly. Regional task forces also have the data. If you want complete data, ask the regions." Widodo has acknowledged that his administration has not disclosed some data out of concern that it would "cause panic." Connelly says the generals on the president's COVID-19 task force have repeatedly advised him to withhold information because it might hurt the economy. Widodo "is extraordinarily sensitive to the prospect of any economic damage," Connelly says, and fears that "an economic collapse might lead to the collapse of his presidency." But Ciptadi argues that the availability of reliable data on suspected deaths is critical "for Indonesians to understand the severity of the outbreak. That this isn't just flu." Copyright 2020 NPR. Margot Robbie: 8 Fascinating Facts About The Harley Quinn Actress - CinemaBlend Posted: 22 May 2020 06:48 PM PDT Margot Robbie Needed Some Liquid Courage Before The Wolf Of Wall Street's Intimate ScenesThe raunchiness of The Wolf of Wall Street is not to be understated, given how Margot Robbie, who played corrupt stock broker Jordan Belfort's desirable wife Naomi Lapaglia in the biopic, has been vocal about how awkward it was to film certain scenes. In fact, on the day of the 2013 Martin Scorsese picture's UK premiere, she revealed to Celebuzz that it took a triple-shot of tequila, a known favorite beverage of hers, to calm her nerves down before performing intimacy with her leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio. CDC and 11 states acknowledge mixing results of viral and antibody tests - CNN Posted: 22 May 2020 06:47 PM PDT Eleven states also confirmed mixing viral and antibody test results. The CDC says it's planning to separate those numbers in the coming weeks, but experts say the current method is unhelpful and potentially misleading. That's because antibody tests aren't used to diagnose current infections or determine whether someone is potentially contagious. Instead, they indicate whether someone has been exposed to the virus in the past. Combining numbers from antibody and viral tests pushes up the total number of tests conducted in the US. But antibody tests are often intended for the general public -- not just people with suspected infections -- so they can skew a key indicator of how the pandemic is progressing: the percentage of tests that come back positive. The CDC's method makes it appear that the US has greater capacity to test than it really does, at least when it comes to identifying current infections. "It's not useful information, unless you have a political agenda that you're trying to back up. That's really the only reason to do that," said CNN medical analyst Dr. Celine Gounder, a professor of medicine and infectious diseases at the New York University School of Medicine. "This is just one more example of why we're very concerned that science is being suppressed at the CDC and is taking a back seat to political priorities in this administration," she said. Whether the combined numbers are coming from states and being republished by CDC -- or whether the CDC is misconstruing the numbers itself -- Gounder said the data are concerning. The numbers can make it seem like states have enough testing capacity and are ready to lift restrictions, when that might not be the case. "This is pretty basic molecular biology 101 that any college student who has studied this stuff would have some basic understanding of," she said. "So CDC epidemiologists know this." News of the agency combining viral and antibody tests was first reported by Miami-based public radio station WLRN and in the Atlantic magazine. CDC spokeswoman Kristen Nordlund described the agency's practice to CNN on Thursday and confirmed it the next day. "Initially, when CDC launched its website and its laboratory test reporting, viral testing (tests for current infection) were far more commonly used nationwide than serology testing (tests for past infection)," she said in an email. "Now that serology testing is more widely available, CDC is working to differentiate those tests from the viral tests and will report this information, differentiated by test type, publicly on our COVID Data Tracker website in the coming weeks." Two very different types of coronavirus testsViral tests, or diagnostic tests, are able to identify current infections. Often called PCR or antigen tests, they look for signs of active infection. A positive test result means someone is potentially contagious -- although some tests have accuracy problems. Antibody tests, in contrast, identify whether someone has been infected by the virus in the past, not whether they're currently infected. As the CDC states on its website: "Antibody tests should not be used to diagnose someone as being currently sick with COVID-19." Currently, the CDC says that about 12.9 million tests have been reported in the US, although it cautions that not all tests are reported to the agency. Still, data from independent labs suggests that a substantial number of tests conducted in the US are antibody tests. Quest Diagnostics said on Monday that it had performed about 1 million antibody tests. LabCorp, another clinical laboratory, said it has performed more than 700,000 as of Friday. Both companies say they have far greater capacity to perform antibody tests than viral tests. Quest said it can run 70,000 viral tests per day, compared to 200,000 antibody tests. LabCorp says it can run more than 75,000 viral tests a day, compared to more than 200,000 antibody tests. The difference between the tests matters, because the percent of tests that come back positive -- the so-called positivity rate -- is a critical indicator for whether states are ready to reopen. It's a sign of the progress that the country is, or isn't, making on the virus -- and antibody tests can complicate the picture. Bending the curveThe White House's own reopening guidelines, for example, call for a "[downward] trajectory of positive tests as a percent of total tests within a 14-day period (flat or increasing volume of tests)." While antibody tests are useful for understanding how prevalent the virus has been -- and whether people might have some sort of immunity in the future -- they don't reflect the current state of the pandemic. "Many states are using numbers of diagnostic tests per capita and the proportion of positive test results as key metrics for reopening decisions, so adding a whole bunch of other tests that do not measure the present state of the pandemic to the mix is unhelpful and creates confusion," Bill Hanage, an epidemiology professor at Harvard University's School of Public Health, told CNN. "Fortunately, most, though not all, states are reporting these results separately, which is the data that should be used when making decisions about reopening," he said. Some states acknowledge mixing together the numbersContacted by CNN, public health officials in most states said they haven't combined numbers from antibody and diagnostic tests. But 11 states reported mixing the numbers together at some point. Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont and Virginia have all done so, but some states have stopped the practice. Officials in Virginia and Vermont said they've fixed the issue. New Hampshire said it only reported the combined numbers for a day, and Colorado said it did so for about a week. Maine now separates out its numbers as well. Texas said it will be separating the numbers this week, and Georgia says it's working to provide greater transparency. Of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, CNN has not yet received responses from Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Iowa, and Kentucky. Expert reacts to viral Facebook post claiming sanitizer left in hot car exploded - WNDU-TV Posted: 22 May 2020 06:47 PM PDT SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Tonight, we're digging deeper after a Facebook post from a fire department in Wisconsin went viral, claiming hand sanitizer left in a hot car exploded. We're speaking to a local expert to find out if this can happen and what you should do to stay safe. The photo sparking controversy was posted by the 'Western Lakes Fire District' in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Thursday morning and quickly racked up thousands of shares. Dozens of Facebook users pointed out Spanish written in the background, leading many to question the authenticity of the post. After some digging, it looks like the origin of the post was in Brazil. The fire department eventually took down the post, writing, "While we never made the claim that the photo utilized was from our district or from an exploding container of hand sanitizer, it has become clear that that inference and speculation made is seem as though it was." They went on to say "Our message was intended to center on preventing fire or injury from the use of hand sanitizer." 16 News Now's Lindsay Stone spoke with Clay Fire Marshall Dave Cherrone about the dangers of leaving hand sanitizer in a hot car. "The one thing when we're talking about leaving in your car, like medication, the heat degrades the medication," Cherrone said. Cherrone says it's highly unlikely this could happen. One thing you need to worry about is the alcohol may evaporate. Cherrone recommends you keep hand sanitizer with you, like in a purse or clipped to your water bottle. "When you're dealing with anything alcohol based, the last thing you want is to have something happen that could have been avoided," Cherrone said. A good tip is to allow hand sanitizer to dry for about a minute before touching something else. 15 Ways To Convey Intent To Employees And Ensure Alignment With Goals - Forbes Posted: 22 May 2020 05:42 PM PDT Goal alignment is the key to business success. Unfortunately, proper alignment of individuals' goals with those of the company requires skillful communication. When a business is ready to move forward in achieving its goals, some employees might be reluctant to be progressive. Humans tend to enjoy routine, and a shakeup such as the intent of a corporate purpose is a massive shift in perspective. How does a communications department align the company's goals in the context of the employee's ambitions? Fifteen experts from Forbes Communications Council examine how to make a connection with employees to ensure that their personal goals align with the company's by imparting the business's intent. 1. Communicate Often And Be Transparent In order to motivate employees to meet their goals, it's important to track and socialize them frequently. This ensures that employees are accountable, getting help removing any blockers and celebrating the wins along the way. - April Mullen, SparkPost 2. Develop A Strategic Roadmap And Use It Build out a strategic roadmap, aligning your company's mission, vision and purpose statements up to key goals and initiatives. Then, don't let it sit in a file to collect dust. Bring it up at your global meetings, and continue to discuss and refine collectively so everyone has skin in the game. - Eileen Canady, BST Global 3. Let Team Members Set Their Own Goals You shouldn't let your staff or team members be restricted to your own internal goals. Often, team members feel unmotivated to accomplish goals imposed on them. Instead, have them set their own goals that are consistent with your company's. This way, they can track their own success according to metrics that motivate them while also contributing to your company's growth. - Amine Rahal, Regal Assets 4. Provide Purpose Via Big-Picture Connection It's critical for employees to understand how their tasks align to overall organizational goals. Leaders must continually make that link so that employees feel motivated by purpose and see their connection to the organization's success. This can be accomplished in team meetings, by having board members and leaders speak to staff, and in annual work plans, always aligning the work to big goals. - Amanda Ponzar, Community Health Charities 5. Start With The 'Why' One of the most effective way for leaders to get their employees behind the company goals is to start with the context behind the goals (the "why"). Once employees connect with the "why," the "what" and "how" become much easier. This needs to be accompanied by helping employees connect the dots between company goals and the part each function/employee plays. - Jyoti Khan, Tata Communications 6. Create A SMART Goal Select one extremely important SMART goal (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely) that will create a strategic tipping point for the organization. Be clear on the desired outcome, and how and when it will be measured, as this will become the focal point for the organization, and where the necessary resources will be allocated and prioritized. - Duane Sprague, Trust Brands 7. Invite Teams To Be Part Of The Process In my experience, it is good to invite teams to be a part of the goal-setting, planning process and solutions. This helps unify cross-functional teams not only on what needs to be achieved but also the "why" and "how." Track the progress toward those goals regularly and frequently as a common language to measure company, team and individual performance. - Tesa Aragones, vsco.co 8. Ask The Team For Feedback Communicating intent to employees can be achieved through various platforms, including video, social media, team meetings and newsletters. However, keeping a team aligned can be challenging. Asking employees what they perceive the blockers or challenges will be in achieving the goals can help the team align. Some issues may be easily addressed or handled and provide energy to move forward. - Levitica "Lee" Watts, Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP 9. Lead By Example In a crisis, employees are looking for leaders who instill confidence and provide clarity of expectations while also showing empathy and care for their people. Establishing (daily) check-ins is also a great way to ensure everyone stays engaged and aligned to the company goals. - Rafael Schwarz, TERRITORY Influence (a Bertelsmann group company) 10. Communicate To The Heart And Head Beyond the "why" and "how" table stakes, it is important to understand what motivates employees and deliver information accordingly. Companies that take inventory of this early and often are far more prepared and successful in effecting change. Most employees are motivated by their heart or their head. Those who are motivated by the head need data, while the heart employees need an emotional rationale. - Teri Daley, Huawei 11. Be Clear About What People Should Focus On Be very clear about what people should focus on. It's easy for people to get lost in the weeds without clear direction. Have a team meeting to effectively communicate a plan for how the company can achieve its goals and then help each employee understand how their individual work activities will help achieve those goals. Then, get buy-in from each employee on their contribution to the goals. - Alexi Lambert Leimbach, Xcellimark 12. Incentivize Your Employees Properly Leaders talk a lot about purpose and camaraderie, and, in truth, these are important. The problem with these ideas is that they delude employers into thinking that is the employees' motivation. Provide the right type of incentives that align with the overall goal -- when you demonstrate you care about each employee's motivation with proper incentives, you solidify their ability to achieve your goal. - Patrick Ward, Rootstrap 13. Know The Rules, Know The Score Goals without guidelines are like games without rules. Once you set your company goals, outline the responsibilities each team member should fulfill to achieve these goals. Next, establish a way to track the progress of goals and make sure all team members understand where they stand on this scoreboard at all times. When you know the score, you know how close you are to winning the game. - Melissa Kandel, little word studio 14. Draw A Picture, Literally Humans are visual. We get it faster and remember it longer when we visualize. The destination, square one, the paths and the roadblocks -- what cannot you draw into one slide? Try using visuals, as it has helped me a ton to communicate better. - Tiffany Xingyu Wang, Spectrum Labs 15. Measure And Celebrate Progress Achieving company goals starts with tying initiatives back to the brand's purpose and mission. Then, it's important for leaders to set objections and key results to measure progress. This can be accomplished at a company and department level to set milestones for achievement. When each of these milestones is hit, take the time to celebrate and reinforce the broader purpose. - Vincent Phamvan, Vyten Career Coaching "Goal" - Google News May 22, 2020 at 10:17AM https://ift.tt/3cWuPQu 15 Ways To Convey Intent To Employees And Ensure Alignment With Goals - Forbes "Goal" - Google News https://ift.tt/35TEe8t Shoes Man Tutorial Pos News Update Meme Update Korean Entertainment News Japan News Update |
