A fistfight between Black Lives Matter Houston founder Ashton Woods and another man was caught on video at the Black Lives Matter rally protesting George Floyd’s death.
Police asked Woods to calm the crowd after a group of people chased a man carrying a rifle around City Hall away from the main demonstration.
As Woods was speaking to the crowd, a man confronted Woods. Woods later alleged that the other man called him a homophobic slur. The men exchanged punches, and a fight ensued that was quickly broken up by protesters and police.
Protesters then walked down Allen Parkway to Interstate 45, blocking an entrance ramp. Later they walked onto U.S. 59 near Elgin.
Floyd, 46, a Third Ward native and Yates High School graduate, died in Minneapolis police custody Monday night after video showed an officer kneeling on his neck, pinning him to the ground while he pleaded for help.
