Trump claims hydroxychloroquine has 'rave reviews,' slams Columbia University - New York Post Posted: 25 May 2020 11:08 PM PDT President Trump said the hydroxychloroquine he has been taking for several weeks has been getting "rave reviews" despite health experts claiming the anti-malarial drug can be dangerous or even fatal for people infected with coronavirus. "Hydroxy has had tremendous rave reviews," Trump told "Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson" during an interview that was scheduled to air Sunday on Sinclair Broadcasting. "I believe in it enough that I took a program because I had two people in the White House that tested positive." The president announced earlier this month that he began taking the drug after consulting with the White House physician. Katie Miller, the spokeswoman for Vice President Mike Pence, and the president's military valet tested positive for COVID-19. At a White House news conference May 18, Trump said he heard "good stories" about the drug, adding "if it is not good, I will tell you, right. I'm not going to get hurt by it. It has been around for 40 years for malaria, for lupus, for other things." A study in the medical journal Lancet published last week said a study of coronavirus patients found that those treated with hydroxychloroquine have a higher risk of developing an irregular heart beat. The Food and Drug Administration has also warned against using the drug outside of hospitals or clinical trials because of the heart problems. "Hydroxychloroquine [has] not been shown to be safe and effective for treating or preventing COVID-19," the FDA said last month. In the Sinclair interview Trump also ripped Columbia University after it published a study claiming that if the lockdown had been in effect two weeks earlier, as many as 54,000 lives would have been saved. "Columbia University is a liberal, disgraceful institution, to write that," he said. "I saw that report from Columbia University and it is a disgrace that they would play right to their little group of people to tell them what to do," he continued. The Trump administration and states began lockdown efforts on March 15. The US death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 92,000. Woman hailed as a 'hero' after giving Trump motorcade the middle finger - indy100 Posted: 25 May 2020 11:08 PM PDT As the United States nears 100,000 deaths, Donald Trump did what any president would do in this situation and played golf. Yes, despite large parts of the United States reopening to the public with an emphasis on social distancing and deaths nearing 100,000, Trump travelled down to his own golf course in Sterling, Virginia. Trump reportedly spent both Saturday and Sunday at the Trump National Golf Course in Sterling, with images appearing to show the president in a white polo t-shirt and baseball club on the private course which is said to be just 20 minutes south of Washington DC. Although it was only a stone's throw from the White House it's always pretty obvious when Trump is in town and despite the jarring sight of dozens of heavily guarded cars driving down a road. However, one local resident wasn't phased in the slightest and she let Trump know exactly what she thought of him and his entourage as they travelled past. It's arguable but this small gesture might be more powerful and meaningful than anything Trump has done since the pandemic began. Unsurprisingly, she is being hailed as a hero. This isn't an unfamiliar occurrence for Trump. Back in 2017 Juli Briskman, was was a former government contractor, was pictured cycling alongside the motorcade in Virginia and also flipping her middle finger at the president. Fast forward to November 2019 and Briskman won a local election to unseat an incumbent Republican. At this stage, we're not sure who the woman in the latest picture is but don't be surprised if she winds up in office in the near future. Samsung Elevates Data Protection for Mobile Devices with New Security Chip Solution - Business Wire Posted: 25 May 2020 10:44 PM PDT SEOUL, South Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today introduced a standalone turnkey security solution comprised of a Secure Element (SE) chip (S3FV9RR) and enhanced security software that offers protection for tasks such as booting, isolated storage, mobile payment and other applications. The latest security chip is Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+ certified, the highest level acquired by a mobile component. "In this era of mobility and contact-less interactions, we expect our connected devices, such as smart phones or tablets, to be highly secure so as to protect personal data and enable fintech activities such as mobile banking, stock trading and cryptocurrency transactions," said Dongho Shin, senior vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. "With the new standalone security element solution (S3FV9RR), Samsung is mounting a powerful deadbolt on smart devices to safeguard private information." Samsung's new security solution is an enhanced turnkey that follows the first-generation solution (S3K250AF) announced in February. The new security solution is a state-of-the-art component that offers higher assurance levels than its predecessor's CC EAL 5+ with an industry-leading CC EAL 6+ certified-hardware secure element, S3FV9RR, and powerful security software. CC EAL 6+ is utilized in applications that demand the most stringent security requirements in the market such as flagship smartphones, e-passports and hardware wallets for cryptocurrency. With twice the secure storage capacity, the new security solution also supports hardware-based root of trust (RoT), secure boot and device authentication that brings mobile security to the next level. Especially for service providers, manufacturers and organizations, secure device authentication is enhanced with the RoT when running proprietary applications on a mobile device. As a bootloader initiates, a chain of trust is activated through which each and every firmware with approved keys is sequentially validated. This secure booting process is handled by the RoT, guarding the device against any possible malicious attacks or unauthorized software updates. As a standalone solution, the new security solution can work independently from the security performance of the device's main processor. This makes the solution extremely versatile, expanding the security capabilities of mobile devices, IoT applications, and other devices in all performance levels. In addition, manufacturers can be assured that devices produced at an off-site location are not tainted with non-authorized firmware. The solution also meets the hardware security module requirements for cryptographic operations outlined by an upcoming mobile operating system version. Samsung's new security solution, S3FV9RR, is expected to be available within the third quarter of this year. About Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Samsung inspires the world and shapes the future with transformative ideas and technologies. The company is redefining the worlds of TVs, smartphones, wearable devices, tablets, digital appliances, network systems, and memory, system LSI, foundry and LED solutions. Hong Kong demand for VPNs surges on heels of China's plan for national security laws - CNBC Posted: 25 May 2020 10:08 PM PDT People wearing face masks, amid concerns of the COVID-19 coronavirus, commute on a train in Hong Kong on April 4, 2020. Dale De La Rey | AFP | Getty Images Demand for virtual private networks in Hong Kong surged more than six-fold last Thursday as Beijing proposed tough new national security laws for the financial hub, reflecting concerns over internet privacy, according to a VPN provider. Atlas VPN said installations of the tool that helps people bypass web restrictions surged again on Friday, up more than three-fold from the previous day, while search interest in the keyword term "VPN" rocketed 1,680% on May 21 from a day earlier. Search interest in the word "VPN" hit a record high on Friday, it added, citing data from Google Trends. Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule in 1997 and is governed under a "one country, two systems" formula that guarantees it a high degree of autonomy not seen in mainland China, including freedom of expression. The former British colony also enjoys unrestricted internet access, unlike on the mainland where the likes of Google, Facebook and Twitter are blocked. Beijing's plans to directly enact national security legislation sent a chill through financial markets and drew a swift rebuke from foreign governments, international human rights and privacy groups, who fear it could lead to increased surveillance and censorship. Hong Kong police said they arrested more than 180 people on Sunday, when authorities fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse anti-government protests over the planned security legislation. "If Hong Kong falls under the same digital restrictions as Chinese citizens in the near future, then we can expect an even higher interest in VPN services," said aid Rachel Welsh, Chief Operating Officer of Atlas VPN. The security legislation aims to tackle secession, subversion and terrorist activities and could see Chinese intelligence agencies set up bases in Kong, one of the world's leading financial hubs. Hong Kong and mainland Chinese officials have sought to reassure investors their interests would not be harmed and said the laws would only target a minority of "troublemakers" who had posed "imminent danger" to China's national security. Posted: 25 May 2020 09:47 PM PDT A woman is facing backlash over a viral video that appears to show her calling the cops on a black man who asked her to leash her dog. She has since been placed on administrative leave by her employer. The woman was in an area in New York City's Central Park known as the Ramble that requires dogs to be leashed. The sister of the man who filmed the confrontation, Melody Cooper, explained that he had asked the woman to put her dog on its leash. As the exchange escalated, the woman threatened to call the police on the man and claim that he was threatening her and her dog. The woman appears to call 911 and demand they "send the cops immediately." She can be seen pulling on the dog's collar rather than leashing the animal throughout the apparent call. The woman was quickly identified on social media, prompting the company where she works to issue a statement. CBS News has reached out to Franklin Templeton to confirm the tweet is about the viral video. In addition to being placed on leave, the woman also "voluntarily surrendered" her dog to the rescue she adopted it from. In a Facebook post, Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Inc. wrote that "the owner has voluntarily surrendered the dog in question to our rescue while this matter is being addressed." A spokesperson for the animal rescue confirmed the dog that was surrendered was the same one in the viral video. As for the man who filmed the woman, his sister said in a follow-up tweet that he is safe. "I wanted folks to know what happened to make sure it never happens again from her. All she had to do was put her poor dog on the leash," Cooper said. Posted: 25 May 2020 09:42 PM PDT Erling Haaland cannot yet be compared to Robert Lewandowski, according to Hansi Flick, though Bayern Munich's coach firmly believes Borussia Dortmund have a star in their ranks. Haaland has hit the ground running since his move to Dortmund in January, continuing the stellar form he showed in the first half of the season for Salzburg. The 19-year-old has scored 10 goals in 10 Bundesliga appearances, propelling Dortmund on in the title race. Lucien Favre's side sit four points behind leaders Bayern heading into Tuesday's behind-closed-doors Klassiker at Signal Iduna Park. Haaland's form has been touted as a potential match for former Dortmund striker Lewandowski, who netted his 41st goal of the season in all competitions in Bayern's 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, yet Flick believes it is too early for such comparisons to be made. "It is [Haaland's] first season, so comparing him now is too early," Flick told reporters. "Robert has always been at a world-class level in recent years. But Haaland is a huge talent. "He is a young player, but he has a huge pull towards the goal. He just wants to finish. "He has a brilliant dynamic. He is greedy, is an enormous size but is still agile. But we don't just have to watch out for him [on Tuesday]." Flick, who is anticipating a resilient Dortmund performance, also acknowledged the peculiarity of playing such a pivotal match in front of no supporters, due to the coronavirus crisis. "It is a very special game," Flick said as he was asked if playing behind closed doors could present an advantage to Bayern. "The atmosphere can inspire any team. It is about how you can cope with it. You have to accept the current situation. You can't look for an excuse. We have to implement the match plan." Thomas Muller has been in scintillating form since Flick took charge of Bayern, and was at his best once more against Frankfurt, providing his 17th league assist of the season before helping himself to a seventh goal of the campaign. "Thomas is a player who can lead a team very well and gives commands over and over again," Flick added. "He played very well against Frankfurt and was always available – he brought dynamism into play. Thomas has enormous experience but wants to win every game. "He embodies 'Mia san Mia' perfectly and knows that he has to go to the limit again and again to win games." US Muslims try to balance Eid rituals with virus concerns - Bellefontaine Examiner Posted: 25 May 2020 09:08 PM PDT WINTER PARK, Fla. (AP) — With no congregational prayers or family gatherings, Salsabiel Mujovic has been worried that this year's Eid al-Fitr celebration will pale. Still, she's determined to bring home holiday cheer amid the coronavirus gloom. Her family can't go to the mosque, but the 29-year-old New Jersey resident bought new outfits for herself and her daughters. They are praying at home and having a family photo session. The kids are decorating cookies in a virtual gathering, and popping balloons with money or candy inside — a twist on a tradition of giving children cash gifts for the occasion. "We're used to, just like, easily going and seeing family, but now it's just like there's so much fear and anxiety," she said. "Growing up, I always loved Eid. … It's like a Christmas for a Muslim." Like Mujovic, many Muslims in America are navigating balancing religious and social rituals with concerns over the virus as they look for ways to capture the Eid spirit this weekend. Eid al-Fitr — the feast of breaking the fast — marks the end of Ramadan, when Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset. Just like they did during Ramadan, many are resorting to at-home worship and relying on technology for online gatherings, sermons and, now, Eid entertainment. This year, some Muslim-majority countries have tightened restrictions for the holiday which traditionally means family visits, group outings and worshippers flooding mosques or filling public spaces. The Eid prayer normally attracts particularly large crowds. The Fiqh Council of North America, a body of Islamic scholars, encouraged Muslims to perform the Eid prayer at home. "We don't want to have gatherings and congregations," Sheikh Yasir Qadhi, who prepared the council's fatwa, or religious edict, said in an interview. "We should try to keep the spirit of Eid alive, even if it's just in our houses, even if we just decorate our houses and wear our finest for each other." While some are eager for mosques to re-open, Qadhi said, "We don't want to be a conduit for the situation exacerbating. We need to think rationally and not emotionally." The North Texas Imams Council, of which he is a member, has recommended mosques remain closed. He said he expected the majority of mosques to stay closed to the public, though he worries about smaller mosques re-opening. On Sunday, Qadhi, resident scholar at East Plano Islamic Center in Texas, and just a few others chanted "Allahu Akbar" from a mosque that he said remained closed to worshippers. Normally, it would have been packed with thousands of believers. "Today we are celebrating Eid like we have never celebrated before," Qadhi said in a sermon streamed online. "It's an atypical celebration but it is a celebration nonetheless." He reflected on lessons such as appreciating blessings once taken for granted. "It's gonna be an Eid for the books" but "we have to make the best of this Eid," he said after the sermon. Outside, cars—some with giggling kids looking out of windows—snaked around the mosque for a drive-through celebration to pick up goody bags. In Florida, the Islamic Center of Osceola County, Masjid Taqwa held the Eid prayer outdoors in the parking lot after announcing social distancing rules. Guidelines posted online included worshippers bringing their own prayer rugs, wearing mandatory masks and praying next to their cars while staying at least six feet apart. Participants were told not to hug or shake hands. "Eid is important but more important is the health of the people," said Maulana Abdulrahman Patel, the imam. "We've been taking a lot of precautions," and not acting on "sentiments or emotional feelings," he said before the holiday, adding they have been consulting with health and other officials. Major Jacob Ruiz, the major of administration at Osceola County Sheriff's Office, said he and the sheriff had met with Patel before Eid. "Everybody was in agreement that it's going to be something that's gonna be successful for them," he added before the start of the holiday. The Muslim community in the county "has been very receptive and proactive in ensuring that they keep safety guidelines," he said. The Masjid Taqwa prayer was open for men only, the mosque said, citing "constraints." Plans for men-only prayers announced by at least one other mosque have prompted objections by some about excluding women. For Masjid Taqwa, the decision to include just men was taken because having families together would make crowd control more difficult, Patel said. Also Sunday, the Islamic Community Center of Phoenix held four Eid prayers, said its president, Usama Shami. "It went better than we expected," he said. Precautions included taping over spots where people may set their prayer rugs to keep a safe distance and offering masks to those who want them, he said. Additional guidelines the center posted online included sterilizing hands before entering the mosque and not congregating inside after the prayer. A video of worshippers showed some in masks and some not. The center started re-opening for some prayers during Ramadan, Shami said, adding that at the time this sparked "a couple of negative" online comments from the Muslim community. In Michigan, the Michigan Muslim Community Council is organizing a televised Eid ceremony. It includes the Eid sermon, greetings from local elected officials and members of Muslim communities, said council chairman Mahmoud Al-Hadidi. "It's just to keep people connected," he said. Normally, Eid is an all-day celebration with large gatherings over meals and a carnival for kids, he added. "Eid is a huge thing here." Back in New Jersey on the holiday's eve, Mujovic and two of her daughters joined friends and others online to decorate cookies. Squeezing icing out and spreading it on cookies shaped like Ramadan lanterns or spelling out the word "EID," the girls stopped to lick their fingers or munch on the treats. As children waved, squealed and showed off their creations, it started to feel like Eid for Mujovic. "It was nice seeing happy faces," she said. ___ Associated Press photographer Matthew Otero and journalist Noreen Nasir contributed. ___ Associated Press religion coverage receives support from the Lilly Endowment through the Religion News Foundation. HCQ now a part of state govt’s treatment protocol - Mumbai Mirror Posted: 25 May 2020 09:08 PM PDT |
Posted: 25 May 2020 09:08 PM PDT The World Health Organization announced Monday a "temporary pause" on the inclusion of an anti-malarial drug, which President Donald Trump said he used to help stave off coronavirus, in a global study on potential treatments for the disease. WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a news conference that the executive group overseeing the organization's "Solidarity" trial of experimental treatments decided Saturday to suspend the use hydroxychloroquine in light a study published in The Lancet that found a lower survival rate among hospitalized COVID-19 patients using the drug. The trial's steering committee will use the pause to allow the Data Safety Monitoring Board to conduct a review and appraisal of "all evidence available globally" to "adequately evaluate the potential benefits and harms from this drug," Tedros said. Hydroxychloroquine was one of four drugs and drug combinations included in the Solidarity trial, which has enrolled more than 3,500 patients in 17 countries, according to Tedros. Other potential treatments, including the experimental drug remdesivir and an HIV combination therapy, are still being tested. "We want to use hydroxychloroquine if it is safe and efficacious, if it reduces mortality, reduces the length of hospitalization, without increasing the adverse events," said Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, WHO's chief scientist. Swaminathan said she expected the Solidarity trial's steering committee to review the Data Safety Monitoring Board's findings within the next two weeks. Can hydroxychloroquine prevent COVID-19?: President Donald Trump thinks maybe. There's no data to support that. Dr. Michael Ryan, WHO's emergencies chief, said the pause was "standard practice" and that if the review does not find any problems, the use of the drug in the solidarity trial would resume. "This has purely been done as a precaution in order to be able to have that data reviewed and have the proper process," Ryan said. Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are approved for treating lupus and rheumatoid arthritis and for preventing and treating malaria, but no large rigorous tests have found them safe or effective for preventing or treating COVID-19. 'This will kill you': People are warning others following Trump's apparent use of hydroxychloroquine 'I think she's a waste of time': Trump dismisses Nancy Pelosi calling him 'morbidly obese,' hydroxychloroquine concern The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cautioned in April that the drug has "not been shown to be safe and effective for treating or preventing COVID-19" and that it should not be used "outside of the hospital setting or a clinical trial due to risk of heart rhythm problems." Despite the lack of evidence that it worked and the FDA's warning, Trump has repeatedly endorsed the use of the drug, saying he had a "feeling" it was effective and telling Americans, "What do you have to lose? Take it." The president told reporters on May 18 that he had been taking the drug as a prophylactic to prevent infection. In an interview that aired Sunday, he said he "just finished" his hydroxychloroquine regimen. "And by the way, I'm still here. To the best of my knowledge, here I am," Trump said on Sinclair Broadcast's program "Full Measure With Sharyl Attkisson." Trump has fiercely criticized the WHO's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, accusing of acting too slowly and too willing to accept China's initial denial that there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission. He has temporarily frozen U.S. funding of the organization and threatened to make it permanent by pulling out of the United Health agency entirely. WHO has disputed Trump's allegation that it should have sounded the alarm on the outbreak sooner. Tedros has vowed to have an independent review of the organization's response "at the earliest appropriate moment." This hack increases your chances of achieving a goal by 42% - Yahoo Finance Australia Posted: 25 May 2020 08:42 PM PDT Yahoo Finance Breakfast Club: Women's Money Movement is a two-part series. Watch episode one here and join the Women's Money Movement LinkedIn group here. Shivani Gopal remembers the moment she realised how important financial independence was, and how so many women haven't achieved it. Stuck in an unhappy marriage, the founder of The Remarkable Woman was sitting on the bus with a friend, crying uncontrollably about her situation. It was bleak, and Gopal was miserable. But there was one huge thing going for her: Gopal was financially independent. Extricating herself from the marriage would be difficult culturally and emotionally. But financially? Not a problem. Today, Gopal says her financial independence is a byproduct of her upbringing and a laser focus on her financial goals. Her first money goal was to buy a barbecue for her family, then it was to buy a property, and she's always been vocal about her goals. "If you don't have clarity of purpose, frankly you have no idea where you're going," Gopal told Yahoo Finance editor-in-chief Sarah O'Carroll during the Women's Money Movement webinar on Tuesday. "You're just walking around aimlessly, and I'm not saying that to sound harsh - I'm saying that we need accountability for where it is that we want to go in life and part of that is to think about it constructively." How do I set financial goals and hit them? There are a number of steps, but the first one is to be clear about what you want and write it down. "Research shows that you're 42 per cent more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down on a regular basis," the co-founder of the Ladies Finance Club Molly Benjamin also told the webinar. Then, split the goals into short-term, medium-term and long-term goals. "We call short-term goals anything which is one-to-three years, and a medium-goal is four-to-six years and a long-term goal is seven years plus," Benjamin continued. For example, a goal to live overseas for six months over the next few years is a short term goal, buying a house might be a medium-term goal and saving for a comfortable retirement is a long-term goal. But it's important that your goals are realistic. Benjamin's co-founder and finance industry veteran Betsy Westcott said it's a good idea to hold your goals up against the SMART framework: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time Bound. "I'm a huge fan of ASIC's MoneySmart website," Westcott said. "They've got this great little calculator called the Money Goals calculator, and it does all the math for you." All you need to do is plug in the amount you want to save, the time frame for hitting that goal and the rate of return on your investments or interest. "That will tell you how much you need to be putting away. [For example], every week I need to be putting away $250." The next question is: can you afford that? If not, there are a few levers you can pull: change the time frame, find a way to earn more money or put more money in, or change the goal entirely. How do I invest to achieve my goals?Benjamin has a rule of thumb: if your goal is a short-term goal, so achievable within three years, you hit that goal by saving in cash. If it's going to take longer, that's when you look at investing. Investing for a short-term goal can be risky, as investment strategies that offer high returns also come with a high level of risk. But if you're investing for a longer-term goal, you have the ability to ride out any stock market bumps. However, you still need to decide how much risk you're comfortable with. "Basically, the higher the risk, the longer your investment time-line needs to be," Benjamin said. Westcott said first-time investors should consider investing through exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and broader index funds, rather than buying individual shares directly. "A lot of people think, 'I'm just going to dive straight in, I'm just going to buy direct shares," but that can be a little bit challenging sometimes because you're just investing your eggs in one basket and that in itself creates a bit of a risk," Westcott said. Instead, ETFs, which offer exposure to a particular sector or index, or funds which track indexes offer a more diversified entry to investing and lesser risk. And, it doesn't hurt to get advice. This could be from an adviser or even an online platform. "Today there are robo-advisers which are platforms or applications which use an algorithm to help understand you and your goals and make the recommendation about how you should invest your money in order for you to achieve those goals." This advice will help you decide if you want to invest more in shares, bonds, property or cash based on your time-line and risk tolerance. To Benjamin, a key thing is to avoid becoming overwhelmed. "We set our goals but then we're like, 'Oh, but I can't do the practical aspects of actually buying the ETF, or buying the shares'," Benjamin said. Female investors are more likely to make fewer trades but are better investors, as they tend to carry out more research than their male counterparts, she added. "Ladies, if you can online shop, you can buy shares." The finishing touchesWhile it can be tempting to check your investment portfolio everyday, Westcott warned against it. "If it's a stock market investment, you'll drive yourself crazy." Instead, set aside a date every month to review your finances and your investment strategy and see how you're tracking. But there's one other thing you should be monitoring closely, and that's your spending, Benjamin said. It's hard to invest when you don't have a solid cashflow, so it's important to see where your money is going. Benjamin said things like pausing 24 hours before making an impulse purchase, and even having a piece of paper with your goals written on it sitting in your wallet by your credit card can make a big difference. N.J. actress Brittany Murphy’s sudden death subject of TV special - NJ.com Posted: 25 May 2020 06:48 PM PDT Brittany Murphy's legacy is filled with memorable performances in "Clueless," "8 Mile," "Girl, Interrupted" and "King of the Hill." The actress is also remembered for her sudden death. Murphy, who grew up in Edison, was 32 when she died at her Los Angeles home in 2009. After suffering from flu-like symptoms, Murphy passed out in her bathroom in the arms of her mother, Sharon, who lived with her at the time. The cause of her death has been the subject of much speculation in the decade-plus since. A new TV special from Investigation Discovery, "Brittany Murphy: An ID Mystery," will revisit the circumstances of her death. Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack, died at their home in 2010 just five months after her death. The special, the network says, "casts doubt on the conclusion that she died of natural causes and reveals bizarre allegations against other family members." Murphy's official cause of death was determined to be pneumonia, anemia from severe iron deficiency and multiple drug intoxication from over-the-counter and prescription drugs. Monjack's cause of death was similar: pneumonia and anemia. The ID special, airing 9 p.m. ET Tuesday, May 26, will feature an interview with Angelo Bertolotti, Murphy's father, who died in 2019. In the wake of Murphy and Monjack's deaths, there was speculation that possible mold in their home could have played a role, though an inspection of the house before their death reportedly did not find mold. "It is unusual to have two people die of similar circumstances with pneumonia," Ed Winter, Los Angeles County assistant chief coroner, told ABC News in 2010. "We've been looking at it and saying, 'Something isn't right.' I'm not saying you can't get pneumonia from mold, but we did all the tests on it — mold did not come up in the toxicology reports." A trailer for the TV special focuses on Monjack's decision to let cameras into the home he shared with Murphy after her death. Thank you for relying on us to provide the journalism you can trust. Posted: 25 May 2020 06:47 PM PDT A pair of men are in custody and Chicago police are answering questions after a now-viral video showed a gathering being broken up in the city's Englewood neighborhood on Sunday night. The video shows police moving through a large crowd of individuals, and ultimately ended in the arrest of two people on weapons charges. At approximately 9:45 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a call that a gathering was blocking the street near 70th Street and South Lowe. A scuffle then ensued, as officers darted through the crowd and noticed a man with a gun. That man, identified by police as Jaquan Hayden of Homewood, was chased by police and eventually placed into custody. Authorities say Hayden was arrested for felony unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a weapon without a FOID card, resisting arrest, and obstruction. Another man, Sedrick Monroe of Chicago, was also arrested after he allegedly dropped a loaded, unlicensed gun in front of a vehicle and tried to run from the scene. Police say shots were fired, but no one was hit. After the incident, the video of police making the arrests and ordering the dispersals went viral, and musician Chance the Rapper retweeted the video from his account: "I've seen hundreds of people at Millennium Park and pictures of even more at the parks on the North Side," he said. "No masks, no social distancing, and enjoying themselves. Please stop sending large groups of militarized police into our neighborhoods exclusively." Chicago police released a statement about the incident, saying that they will enforce the state's ongoing "stay-at-home" order in whatever neighborhoods are seeing large gatherings: "The Chicago Police Department strives to ensure any enforcement of the statewide stay-at-home order is universal regardless of neighborhood, community or district," the department said in a statement. Two officers were injured during the incident, but both are in good condition on Monday night, according to officials. Chicago police are continuing to investigate the incident. 2020-05-25 23:40:00Z https://news.google.com/__i/rss/rd/articles/CBMiMmh0dHBzOi8vbmV3cy5saXZlZG9vci5jb20vYXJ0aWNsZS9kZXRhaWwvMTgzMTYxMTcv0gE7aHR0cHM6Ly9uZXdzLmxpdmVkb29yLmNvbS9saXRlL2FydGljbGVfZGV0YWlsX2FtcC8xODMxNjExNy8?oc=5 |
