Genespage.com has learned that rising sophomore defensive back Jarrian Jones has entered the NCAA transfer portal and is looking to move on from the Bulldog football program. Jones played in 11 games last season earning one start as the Bulldogs posted a 6-7 mark on the campaign. Jones was credited with 12 tackles, two pass break-ups and a fumble recovery for the 2019 season.

Jones was a highly recruited prospect out of Northwest Rankin High School (MS) back in the class of 2019. Due to needs at the cornerback position, Jones played extensively in the early going and was forced into near full time service once senior starter Maurice Smitherman was lost of the season due to an ACL injury. A neck injury to Cameron Dantzler limited his ability much of the season, which gave Jones and fellow freshmen Martin Emerson plenty of freshman work.

Jones' decision to leave the program is a real disappointment to Bulldog supporters. As a verbal commitment to the program, Jones was instrumental in getting several other in state prospects to follow him to Starkville. He was a real leader in the class and a true asset to Coach Joe Moorhead and his staff as they put the 2019 class together.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic brought a pause to all college athletic activities, Mississippi State has seen four players enter the NCAA transfer portal. Defensive tackle Fabien Lovett was the first to take the plunge. Lovett originally shared that he planed to make the move to Florida State, but recent information suggests that the former Olive Branch High School star will look to enroll at Ole Miss in the coming weeks. Offensive lineman Brevyn Jones, a Birmingham, Alabama native, recently announced that he would be spending the 2020 college football season on the roster at Illinois. Offensive lineman Stewart Reese took advantage of the NCAA's graduate transfer policy and is now headed to the University of Florida.

Coach Mike Leach and his staff are working through the quarantine and looking to build new relationships with their new players. With no in-person meetings or practice sessions permitted, the process has been arrested. Zoom calls and virtual meetings have been helpful, but nothing can or will replace in person instruction and practice sessions.

SEC presidents are expected to vote on a potential return date for players on Friday. Dates of June 1st and 15th are rumored to be a part of the discussions. Getting the players back to campus and getting them back into the normal routine would certainly benefit the Bulldogs who continue to work through some roster attrition.
