Stacked Sprint Car Entry List for the Great Lakes Shootout - Autoweek

deweweko.blogspot.com

One week after the World of Outlaws resumed its season with the Knoxville Invitational in Iowa, many of the same marquee names have traveled north to the Jackson County Fairgrounds for what has the makings of an even more prestigious event.

The Great Lakes Shootout at the Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota is not a World of Outlaws event, but registered drivers are allowed to participate in IRA sanctioned events.

As a result, the 75-driver entry list for Friday and Saturday includes reigning World of Outlaws champion Brad Sweet, 10-time champion Donny Schatz and weekly contenders Jason Sides, Daryn Pittman, Carson Macedo, Sheldon Haudenschild, Wayne Johnson and Mason Daniel.

The All-Star Circuit of Champions will be represented by Aaron Reutzel, Cory Eliason, Zeb Wise and Brock Zearfoss. IRA Outlaw Sprint Series contenders Bill Balog, Jeremy Schultz, Jake Blackhurst, Russel Borland, Joey Moughan have entered.

National stars Brian Brown, Kerry Madsen, Ian Madsen, Rico Abreu, Justin Henderson, Mark Dobmeier, Tim Kaeding, Brent Marks, Terry McCarl, Parker Price-Miller, Trey Starks, Dominic Scelzi and Giovanni Scelzi have all made the trip north after competing in the Knoxville Invitational.

Kyle Larson will make his sixth North American 410 Sprint Car start of the season on Friday and Saturday nights. Kasey Kahne has entered after also having participated in Knoxville.

The Friday night race pays $5,000 to win and the Saturday feature pays $7,000.

The races will take place without fans in attendance with teams having to adhere to similar physical distancing guidelines as enforced by the World of Outlaws last weekend at Knoxville. The races will air online via a Speed Shift TV pay-per-view.

The event format is as follows: Qualifying will be one lap per driver. The top 50 drivers in qualifying will be split into five, eight-lap heat races. The inversion is four with the top-four finishers locking into the A Main. Drivers who qualify 51st or worst will go to a non-qualifier race. The transferring drivers will move to the C Main and the non-transfers to the D Main.

The five heat race winners and the five fastest qualifying transfers make up two, five-car dashes that will determine the first five rows of the main event. A-Main starting positions 11 through 20 will be determined by heat race finish. The top-four finishers in the B Main will fill the A Main starting grid.
