The World of Outlaws will resume its season on Friday night from the Sprint Car Capital of the World and has delivered an entry list that reflects it.
This is arguably the strongest single night field in the history of the sport with 48 of the most prominent names in the discipline set to compete behind closed doors at Iowa's Knoxville Raceway for a pay-per-View audience on Dirtvision.
Fans will receive a 20% discount on any new Fast Pass All-Access subscriptions or single-event pay-per-view purchased prior to 7:59 a.m. ET on Thursday, May 7, using the voucher: RETURNKNOXVILLE.
"We’re so excited to Return to Racing, and especially at a place as welcoming and comfortable as Knoxville, in such unusual times," said Carlton Reimers, World of Outlaws series director. "The goal has never been to be the 'first' back to racing, but to work to be the 'best.'
"We hold ourselves and our teams to high standards. Everyone at Knoxville Raceway, Marion County and even at Governor Reynolds' office, have been working so hard to make this event as safe as possible. With the best teams in the country loading up and the grader hitting the track, we can finally start to think about the racing."
The entry list is headlined by the championship battle from last summer in 10-time NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz and defending titlist Brad Sweet. They are joined by each of the returning and current full-time Outlaws in Sheldon Haudenschild, Logan Schuchart, Daryn Pittman, Kraig Kinser, Carson Macedo, Jason Sides, David Gravel and Jacob Allen.
Rookie of the Year contenders Mason Daniel and Wayne Johnson will also compete.
Challenging the Outlaw regulars for the $10,000 winner’s share of the $52,000 purse will be a handful of Knoxville Speedway regulars spearheaded by reigning track champion Brian Brown. He will be joined by Austin McCarl, Terry McCarl, Justin Henderson and Matt Juhl.
The Pennsylvania Posse will be represented by Danny Dietrich, Brent Marks, Brock Zearfoss, Lucas Wolfe and Robbie Kendall. California is represented by Rico Abreu, Gio Scelzi, Dominic Scelzi, Cory Eliason, and Shane Golobic.
Kasey Kahne and Kyle Larson will also make their returns to the World of Outlaws.
Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions champion Aaron Reutzel and IRA Outlaws Sprint Series champion Bill Balog also accepted invites to compete.
The race will count for 2020 World of Outlaws championship points and will be the fourth race of the season following the opening three events in February at Florida's Volusia Speedway Park.
"I never thought this would be how I’d be defending my 2019 World of Outlaws championship," Sweet said in a press release. "Of course, after winning the 2018 Knoxville Nationals, I’m pretty excited to be returning to Knoxville to jump-start the 2020 season."
One organization not on the entry list is Swindell SpeedLab, which was invited, but declined out of health concerns for team owner Kevin Swindell, who has spent a lot of time in the hospital over the past five years. It expects to return to the Outlaws in June if it appears safer to do so.
