Actress Kathryn Newton to Be Ambassador for Polo Golf - WWD

Posted: 13 May 2020 12:34 AM PDT

Kathryn Newton has two passions: acting and golf. Now the actress is indulging both as the new female ambassador of the Polo Golf and RLX brands.

Newton, best known for her role as Abigail Carlson, Reese Witherspoon's daughter in "Big Little Lies," has been hitting golf balls since she could walk. "I grew up on a golf course," said the Coral Gables, Fla., native and lifelong Ralph Lauren fan.

There are even photos of her on the putting green wearing a Ralph Lauren polo when she was just a toddler. Since then, she's attended fashion shows and events for the company, wearing the latest looks from the women's collection.

"I am so excited to team up with Ralph Lauren," she said. "Since I was a little girl, I have been wearing Ralph Lauren on and off the golf course. I am truly honored and proud to represent the brand and look forward to being a part of the RL family."

Newton began playing in tournaments when she was eight — her dad was her caddy — and eventually attended Notre Dame High School in southern California where she was a key part of the school's championship golf team. Newton even had her eye on the 2012 U.S. Women's Open, but it was then that her life changed forever: she had to withdraw from the qualifiers when she landed the lead role in "Paranormal Activity 4."

"I had dreams of attending USC and playing golf there," she said. But the lure of acting was too tempting and she put those dreams on the back burner. Although she may have entertained thoughts of one day becoming a professional golfer, reaching that goal would have required a major commitment, she said, one that didn't mesh with her acting ambitions.

So acting won out.

Since making her choice, the 23-year-old has appeared in "All My Children," "Bad Teacher," "Supernatural," "Mad Men," "Gary Unmarried" and a slew of other films and television shows. So despite playing to a two handicap and being deemed "the best golfer in Hollywood" by Golf Digest, Newton appears to have made the right choice.

But while her career goals may have shifted, Newton has never lost her love of the game. In fact, she always carries her clubs on set and still plays on the weekends when she can. She also participates in charity tournaments around the country and will continue to do so in her role as a Ralph Lauren ambassador. "It helps keep me grounded," she said.

Starting later this month, Newton will be featured alongside Justin Thomas, the Ralph Lauren-sponsored PGA Tour golfer, in the brand's spring ad campaign. She'll also star in the fall campaign later this year.

"I am a huge fan of Justin's — he's so good," she said, joking that she did her best to "be really cool on set" during the shoot in Florida.

Although Newton is quarantined in her home in Los Angeles, she's eager to soon get out on the links again since most golf courses around the country have reopened. "It's an individual sport and there's no physical contact," she said, adding that it'll also give her the opportunity to "wear my cute new outfits" from the Polo Golf and RLX collections. "You always play better when you dress well," she said.

But until then, she's making the best of her stay-at-home time. "It's nice to be home," she said, "making cookies and playing with my poodles." Her three dogs — Jack King, Ladybird and Buddy — have all become Instagram stars so keeping their posts current is helping fill her time. "I got them red, white and blue Ralph Lauren sweaters for Christmas," she said.

Newton is also eager to get back to work on season two of "The Society," the Netflix series where she plays Allie Pressman, but when that'll happen is still unknown because of the pandemic. Newton admits that she didn't immediately realize how serious the health situation was because she had been "in a bubble" filming "The Map of Tiny Perfect Things," a drama also starring Josh Hamilton, that was just completed.

She's also starring in a yet-to-be-titled horror-comedy body-swapping thriller with Vince Vaughn where he plays a serial killer, and she recently completed production on "Pokemon Detective Pikachu."

Like everyone else, Newton is eager for the quarantine to end so she can get back to her work and the projects she's currently in the middle of filming.

"I'm so, so excited to be with my castmates again," she said, adding that they've become her "closest friends."

And when she does get back to the set, she's going to do her best to draw them into her favorite hobby. "I'm trying to show my friends that golf is cool," she said.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, explained - Vox.com

Posted: 13 May 2020 12:31 AM PDT

Dr. Anthony Fauci has become one of the most recognizable faces of America's coronavirus response, as a member of the White House coronavirus task force and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. But it was an earlier crisis that shaped his career — and that's crucial to understanding his position today.

As the above video shows, Dr. Fauci's involvement in the AIDS crisis, from the virus's discovery to the present day, has affected the course of his career and the way the disease is treated around the world. That history, in turn, informs how we learn about and treat the coronavirus in the US today.

In addition to scientific progress, AIDS also necessitated bureaucratic changes in the government response to the disease. By negotiating these challenges, Dr. Fauci secured his place in the public health system and changed the way AIDS was treated.

Watch the above video to learn how.

You can find this video and all of Vox's videos on YouTube, including our coverage of the coronavirus. And if you're interested in supporting our video journalism, you can become a member of the Vox Video Lab on YouTube.

A topic as broad as the AIDS crisis, even narrowed to Dr. Fauci's involvement, could have an endless reading list, from primary sources like ACT UP's historical archive or one of Dr. Fauci's early lectures on AIDS.

However, these books provide particularly useful context on a complex story.

This book provides an exhaustive tour of the AIDS crisis from a drug research perspective, with extensive coverage of the NIH and FDA.

This book extends beyond the 1980s period covered in this video to explore the long search for an AIDS vaccine. It's highly useful as a history of pharmaceutical and government efforts.

This book, and the documentary of the same name, describe the activist history of the crisis with plenty of research into the government response.

Written by a former NIH history director and Dr. Fauci, this is something like an "official" history of the AIDs crisis, from the beginning to the book's 2012 publication date.

T-Mobile lays out $60B, five-year buildout plan for 5G - Light Reading

Posted: 13 May 2020 12:16 AM PDT

Now that T-Mobile has officially closed its merger with Sprint, company officials are beginning to offer details about exactly how the operator will construct "the world's best broad and deep nationwide 5G network."

T-Mobile executives explained that the operator began laying the groundwork for its buildout last year, before the company's merger with Sprint was completed, which is how it was able to turn on 5G in Sprint's 2.5GHz spectrum in Philadelphia and New York City just weeks after it closed its merger.

"I think we've all surprised ourselves at how quickly we've been able to get work done," said T-Mobile network chief Neville Ray during an appearance at an investor conference Tuesday.

Importantly, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ray said T-Mobile has been hanging 2.5GHz transmission radios on its existing cell towers at the rate of roughly 1,000 towers per month – a rate he said the operator expects to increase as it moves into the summer.

"So far so good," he said. "We are ramping up in this [pandemic] environment, not actually slowing down."

Prior to the close of T-Mobile's merger with Sprint, the operator counted a total of roughly 65,000 macro cell towers across the country, explained Ray. Now that its merger with Sprint is complete, he said the company's goal is to grow that number to a total of 85,000 macro cell sites by building 15,000 new cell towers and decommissioning an unspecified number of unnecessary, overlapping Sprint cell sites. Those figures roughly align with the plan the operator laid out in 2018 when it announced its merger with Sprint.

T-Mobile is hoping to install 2.5GHz radios on around 30,000 towers in major metropolitan areas quickly – though Ray did not specify a timeframe for that effort – and then later the company would work to construct the additional 15,000 new towers it will need.

T-Mobile is currently in discussions with tower companies to complete that work. "We're looking to drive some healthy competition between those folks," said Ray.

It often takes five to ten days for tower work crews to add the necessary equipment to a tower, but it frequently takes months to obtain the proper permits from local regulators, Ray explained.

The addition of Sprint's midband 2.5GHz spectrum to T-Mobile's lowband 600MHz 5G network is "really going to deliver an incredible 5G experience," Ray said, noting that the operator is already seeing speeds of 600-700Mbit/s on early operations.

T-Mobile's high-speed 5G coverage area will quickly dwarf those from its rivals, according to Ray. Interestingly, he said T-Mobile's 2.5GHz 5G network in Philadelphia, completed in a month, is roughly 2.5x larger than the 5G network running in millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum that Verizon has constructed in roughly 30 cities over the past 18 months.

However, to be clear, a mmWave 5G network requires the installation of a much larger number of transmitters than a 2.5GHz network, because signals in 2.5GHz travel much further than signals in mmWave spectrum. The benefit of mmWave 5G is that it can support speeds well above 1Gbit/s.

In his comments, Ray didn't mention T-Mobile's small cell plans. The company today counts around 26,000 small cell/distributed antenna system sites, and T-Mobile in 2018 said it would increase that number to around 50,000 after the close of its Sprint merger.

Finally, T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert pointed out that the operator's 5G buildout won't rely exclusively on its lowband 600MHz and midband 2.5GHz spectrum licenses. Indeed, while it was working to close its Sprint merger, T-Mobile spent roughly $1.7 billion collecting mmWave spectrum licenses across the country during the FCC's three recent mmWave spectrum auctions.

"Our competitors obviously spent a lot of time trying to convince everybody that 5G was synonymous with mmWave," Sievert said. Verizon has made mmWave 5G the centerpiece of its marketing. "We've always been fans of mmWave, as an augment."

T-Mobile's end goal – one that Sievert said the operator would spend up to $60 billion over the next five years reaching – is to deploy a "layer cake" 5G network across the US. That layer cake will include lowband spectrum for coverage, midband spectrum for capacity inside cities, and highband, mmWave spectrum for extra-fast speeds in dense urban areas. T-Mobile has already deployed this kind of network in New York City.

Actress Emilia Clarke appears in International Nurses Day tribute video amid coronavirus crisis - The National

Posted: 12 May 2020 11:34 PM PDT

The actress Emilia Clarke has fronted a video showcasing the professionalism of nursing staff working during the coronavirus pandemic in a tribute to mark International Nurses Day.

In the video, Clarke recites a poem called "These are the Hands", written by the former Children's Laureate Michael Rosen in 2008 for the 60th anniversary of the National Health Service in the UK.

Its release by the Royal College of Nursing on May 12 also coincides with the bicentenary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

It was this 200th-birthday milestone that prompted the World Health Organisation to dedicate 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife to recognise the critical contribution both professions make to global health.

That decision made in May last year has taken on far greater significance than the WHO might have envisaged before Covid-19 swept around the globe, putting healthcare workers on the "frontline" of the fight against the devastating consequences of the pandemic. Nurses and other medical staff have been repeatedly hailed as heroes throughout the coronavirus crisis.

In the footage, the star who is best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, does a reading of the poem by Rosen that closes with the words: "And these are the hands/That stop the leaks/Empty the pan/Wipe the pipes/Carry the can/Clamp the veins/Make the cast/Log the dose/And touch us last."

When she signs off, Clarke simply says: "As a proud RCN ambassador, thank you to all nursing staff. Happy International Nurses Day."

She has previously vowed to be a champion for nursing staff, who she once described as "overlooked, under-appreciated and under-paid".

Her own experiences as a critically ill patient have perhaps given Clarke a greater awareness than most of their vital work. In 2011, she was struck down with the first of two life-threatening brain haemorrhages that forced her to undergo surgery during the first few seasons of Game of Thrones.

The nursing she received on the long road to recovery led her to found SameYou, a charity dedicated to helping people living with brain injuries access ongoing rehabilitative care in countries where it is limited or unavailable.

Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen.

The SameYou website features a banner that says: "Superheroes save the day. Supernurses save every day."

On Monday evening, Clarke, 33, posted another video in which she reveals her own supernurse, named only as "Tina", who works at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, in London. It was Tina who helped the actress through her first haemorrhage and the years that followed.

As Clarke goes on to explain, Tina dealt with her fears with the patience of a saint - everything from ''I've got a funny headache" and "I feel really sick" to "My hand is swollen because of where the drip was". The nurse, she said, knew that what might seem insignificant in other circumstances could take on scary proportions for those recovering from a brain injury.

"She was remarkable in that sense," Clarke said. "I would call her, quite a lot if I'm really honest, with all of my worries and all of my fears, and Tina was there for years afterwards… which is why she is my supernurse.

"Now the problem is that we don't have enough Tinas," she added. "Tina has a huge number of patients that she's looking out for, a remarkable amount of people that she is making sure knows and feels that they are her only patient, which is how she made me feel. So my shout out, my supernurse, is Tina.

"I just want to say thank you to Tina, and thank you to all nurses for the incredible job that you do, especially on May 12 when we get to celebrate you guys."

Clarke ended the video message with an appeal for people to make contact to tell her about their own supernurses so that they could all be given the love that they deserve.

Messi or Ronaldo? Klopp picks Barcelona star ahead of 'perfect' rival - Goal

Posted: 12 May 2020 10:48 PM PDT

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp prefers Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo, even though he said the Juventus star was close to a "perfect player".

Barcelona great Messi and Ronaldo are widely considered two of the greatest players of all-time, although just who is better continues to be debated .

While Klopp prefers Messi, the German paid tribute to both for their era of dominance, which has seen them win 11 of the past 12 Ballons d'Or.

Klopp lauded Ronaldo's physical build, but said Messi was able to produce his magic while making it look so easy.

"For me Messi, but I couldn't admire Ronaldo more than I do already," Klopp told YouTube channel freekickerz.

"The explanation is the following. We've played against both already and both are almost impossible to defend.

"But Messi has much lower physical requirements from birth on. If you could paint yourself a perfect player, it would have Ronaldo's height, he could jump and run as high or quick as Ronaldo can do. And what is then even added to that is his total attitude, it is absolutely perfect and professional, it couldn't be any better.

"And on the other side there is the small Messi who makes everything look so simple. And therefore I like him maybe a little bit more as a player on the pitch. But Cristiano is also an absolutely incredible player.

"It's really difficult therefore, but what both have in common is that both have left their footprints for such a long time.

"There are also some younger players who have a similar potential, but to do that over this time period is even more incredible."

In an earlier interview, Klopp was asked which former Liverpool player he would sign if he bring a legend back to the club in their peak.

The 52-year-old revealed that he would choose Steven Gerrard - but he jested the former skipper wouldn't be an automatic selection.

Article continues below

"Stevie, that's easy! But he'd have to fight for his place," Klopp told BT Sport .

"The funny thing is we have lived for four-and-a-half years in the same town and I've never seen him before.

"Since the lockdown, I've seen him six or seven times. I go for a dog walk or a run or whatever, and he has a walk with the family, so we've seen each other more often than all the time together before!"

AARP warns of increased fraud risk on mobile payment apps during pandemic - Oil City News

Posted: 12 May 2020 07:16 PM PDT

(Shutterstock)

CASPER, Wyo — The AARP wants consumers using increasingly-popular peer-to-peer (P2P) payment apps on mobile devices to be conscious of possible security risks and the difficulty of recovering money sent in error.

With current stay-at-home orders and social distancing mandates during the coronavirus pandemic, more people are turning to online payments for delivery of groceries, meals, and other necessities, according to release from the AARP.

71% of U.S. adults report using P2P payment platforms like PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, Square, Google Pay and Apple Pay. Among those, users say they sometimes (24%), frequently (35%) or rarely (41%) use the platforms.

Article continues below...

The study, conducted by the University of Chicago on behalf of the AARP, surveyed 2,842 adults age 18 or older in all 50 states and was designed to be representative of the U.S. household population. Though people primarily used the apps to send money to friends and family, half reported sending money to people they had never previously done business with.

"We know scammers are already capitalizing on anxieties and fears around coronavirus. With so many people at home, consumers should be alert for possible scams on peer-to-peer payment platforms," said Kathy Stokes, AARP Director of Fraud Prevention Programs. "It is crucial for people to know how these platforms work and sending money to someone you don't know presents significant risk."

According to a Consumer Reports study, top mobile payment apps use encryption features that make them "generally safe." But there are caveats.

Peer-to-peer apps aren't covered by chargeback legislation that allows credit card customers to reverse charges due to fraud or disputes over services rendered.

According to Consumer Reports, app users "may not know they can't necessarily reverse such payments. Nor do they know that in most cases, providers won't help if the recipient refuses to return the misdirected funds."

In addition, the study found many mobile payment apps "require no password, PIN, or fingerprint for repeat access to the app or to initiate a transaction when their default security settings are in place. Only one provider, Apple, requires users to confirm a payment before it is sent."

Using two-factor authentication settings on phones can limit risk. Without such features, a consumer who loses a mobile phone may as well be losing their credit card.

Furthermore, consumers should not add account information to their phones while on shared mobile networks.

Lastly, consumers should double- and triple-check recipient information before hitting the "Send payment" button.

Fauci tells Congress: 'There's no guarantee that the vaccine is actually going to be effective' - CNBC

Posted: 12 May 2020 07:01 PM PDT

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, addresses the coronavirus task force daily briefing at the White House in Washington, U.S., March 24, 2020.

Jonathan Ernst | Reuters

As drugmakers across the world race to develop a coronavirus vaccine, White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said, "There's no guarantee that the vaccine is actually going to be effective."

Fauci delivered the somber warning Tuesday to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions during a hearing about the road to reopening businesses across the nation. U.S. officials have pointed to the development of a vaccine as a key turning point in the Covid-19 pandemic, even though it will take at least 12 to 18 months.

As experimental vaccines are created, they will also need to be mass produced to be administered to the more than 7.6 billion people around the world. In the meantime, there are no proven treatments for the virus.

Fauci's comments highlight another complexity in the path to a vaccine.

"You can have everything you think that's in place and you don't induce the kind of immune response that turns out to be protective and durably protective," Fauci said of a vaccine. "So one of the big unknowns is, will it be effective? Given the way the body responds to viruses of this type, I'm cautiously optimistic that we will with one of the candidates get an efficacy signal."

The National Institutes of Health, an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, has been fast-tracking work with biotech company Moderna to develop a potential vaccine. More than 100 vaccines are in development globally as of April 30, according to the World Health Organization, with at least eight vaccine candidates already in human trials.

Moderna is completing its phase one trial. The company's potential vaccine contains genetic material called messenger RNA, or mRNA, that was produced in a lab. Last week, Moderna said it would soon begin phase two trials with 600 participants and was finalizing plans for a late-stage trial as early as this summer.

Until a vaccine is ready, Fauci said, the country needs to continue trying to mitigate and contain outbreaks.

Another worry among epidemiologists, Fauci said, is that the vaccine backfires and strengthens the virus.

There have been at least two vaccines in the past that have produced a "suboptimal response," he said. "And when the person gets exposed, they actually have an enhanced pathogenesis of the disease, which is always worrisome. So we want to make sure that that doesn't happen. Those are the two major unknowns."

Still, Fauci said he's "cautiously optimistic that we will have a candidate that will have some degree of efficacy, hopefully a percentage enough that will induce the kind of herd immunity that would give protection to the population at home."

'These are the hands': Actress Emilia Clarke recites poem in touching tribute for International Nurses Day - FOX 29 News Philadelphia

Posted: 12 May 2020 06:34 PM PDT

Actress Emilia Clarke thanked nurses around the world in a video marking International Nurses Day, an annual date that takes on a new significance amid the fight against COVID-19.

Celebrated on May 12, the day honors contributions that nurses make to society. It's held on the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale — a trailblazing figure in modern nursing who was born exactly 200 years ago.

To mark the occasion, the Royal College of Nursing in the U.K. shared a video of actress Emilia Clarke reciting a poem called "These are the Hands," written by Michael Rosen in 2008 for the 60th anniversary of the National Health Service.

"These are the hands that touch us first, feel your head, find the pulse and make your bed," the "Game of Thrones" star says over a video montage showing nurses helping to care for patients during the coronavirus pandemic.

Clarke, an ambassador of the Royal College of Nursing, thanks all nursing staff at the end of the video and wishes them a happy International Nurses Day.

In the U.S., many nurses and other health care workers on the front lines of the pandemic were among the earliest Americans to test positive for the novel coronavirus. They continue to be infected in large numbers, according to the Associated Press.

Emmy Predictions 2020: Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie - IndieWire

Posted: 12 May 2020 06:34 PM PDT

Throughout Emmy season, IndieWire will evaluate the top contenders for TV's most prestigious prize, and it all starts here. At the bottom of this page are IndieWire TV Critic Ben Travers' predictions for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie. This article will be updated throughout the coming months, along with all our predictions, to reflect an up-to-the-minute state of the race. Make sure to keep checking IndieWire for the latest coverage on the 2020 Emmys, including breaking news, analysis, interviews, podcasts, FYC event coverage, reviews of all the awards contenders, and more. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be given out Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13. The 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will take place at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, September 20. (See our awards calendar for a more detailed breakdown of important dates.) ABC is broadcasting the ceremony.

Last Year's Winner: Patricia Arquette, "The Act"
Still Eligible: No.
Hot Streak: The typical one-and-done nature of the Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie category makes repeat wins a bit of a rarity, but five performers have pulled it off to date: Regina King in "American Crime" is the most recent (2015, 2016) — and the only actress to win in consecutive years — while Jane Alexander ("Playing for Time" in 1981 and "Warm Springs" in 2005), Judy Davis ("Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story" in 1995 and "The Starter Wife" in 2007), Colleen Dewhurst ("Between Two Women" in 1986 and "Those She Left Behind" in 1989), and Mare Winningham ("Amber Waves" in 1980 and "George Wallace" in 1988) round out the elite group.
Fun Fact: Four of the eligible "Mrs. America" supporting actresses — Rose Byrne, Margo Martindale, Sarah Paulson, and Uzo Aduba — have 17 Emmy nominations and six wins between them. But even these beloved Emmy favorites can't match up their landmark co-star Tracey Ullman, who has 26 Emmy nominations and seven wins all to herself.
Notable Ineligible Series: "Fargo" (Season 4 did not finish shooting before production was suspended.); "The Undoing" (HBO has pushed the release date to Fall 2020); "American Crime Story" ("Impeachment" has not premiered), "True Detective" (Season 4 has not premiered), "The Alienist" (Season 2 has not premiered), "The Good Lord Bird" (delayed), "Big Little Lies" (Season 2 is eligible as a drama series), "Genius: Aretha" (delayed)

The State of the Race

Like "When They See Us" last year and many Ryan Murphy series before that, the acting nominations for Limited Series' categories can often be dominated by a single ensemble-driven program. This year appears to be no different, even if which limited series will garner the TV Academy's favor is still up in the air — kind of.

FX on Hulu's "Mrs. America" has made a big impact on critics and seems to be connecting with audiences as well — throw in the cast's above-mentioned history at the Emmys and these supporting stars are early frontrunners. Episodes have given gleaming spotlights to stars like Uzo Aduba, Margo Martindale, Sarah Paulson, and Tracey Ullman, while Dahvi Waller's limited series has given Rose Byrne her best chance at an Emmy since "Damages."

Reviews have not been as kind to Ryan Murphy's latest — and his first Netflix original series under the groundbreaking producer's overall deal — but "Hollywood" has been holding well in Netflix's Top 10 viewership rankings and sports its own well-liked cast of supporting players. First and foremost is Holland Taylor, a seven-time nominee and former winner, but don't count out Patti LuPone; she hasn't been nominated at the Emmys since 1998, but her role is a bit more prominent than Taylor's, as well as their other, less experienced "Hollywood" co-star, Laura Harrier.

Netflix will also be pushing "Unbelievable," which debuted last fall but performed well with critics and at the winter awards shows, including Toni Collette, who already earned Golden Globe and SAG nominations for her work; Amandla Stenberg's excellent turn in the May limited series, "The Eddy," and Jane Krakowski in the "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" interactive special, "Kimmy vs. The Reverend."

HBO's "Watchmen," meanwhile, offers both Jean Smart and Hong Chau in the category, as Smart goes for her ninth nominations while Chau could land her first. Allison Janney is up for HBO's "Bad Education," and despite her 14 nominations and seven wins, she's yet to snag recognition in the Limited Series/TV Movie categories. Rounding out the top contenders from the Emmys' top network are Kathryn Hahn ("I Know This Much Is True"), Winona Ryder ("The Plot Against America"), and Emma Thompson ("Years and Years").

Even when one show could take up the entire category, there are still more dark horses voters should keep in mind. Eve Lindley is far and away the best element of AMC's "Dispatches From Elsewhere"; Cherry Jones manages to rise above the rampant melodrama in the Apple TV+ series "Defending Jacob" — as does Tiffany Boone, who finds a way to bottle up Kerry Washington's over-the-top intensity and channel it into a captivating performance all her own, playing the younger version of their character, Mia Warren.

Predicted Nominees:

1. Jean Smart, "Watchmen"
2. Toni Collette, "Unbelievable"
3. Rose Byrne, "Mrs. America"
4. Uzo Aduba, "Mrs. America"
5. Allison Janney, "Bad Education"
6. Sarah Paulson, "Mrs. America"

Spoilers: Margo Martindale, "Mrs. America"; Tracey Ullman, "Mrs. America"; Melissa Leo, "I Know This Much Is True"; Patti Lupone, "Hollywood"; Holland Taylor, "Hollywood"; Emma Thompson, "Years and Years"; Winona Ryder, "The Plot Against America"; Naomi Watts, "The Loudest Voice"; Cherry Jones, "Defending Jacob"

In a Perfect World: Amandla Stenberg, "The Eddy"; Eve Lindley, "Dispatches From Elsewhere"; Tiffany Boone, "Little Fires Everywhere"; Hong Chau, "Watchmen"; Kathryn Hahn, "I Know This Much Is True"

‘De Jong has done well, look at De Ligt at Juventus’ – Barcelona midfielder the heir to Busquets, says De Boer - Goal

Posted: 12 May 2020 05:18 PM PDT

Frenkie de Jong has achieved "something exceptional" in his debut campaign at Barcelona, says Ronald de Boer, with Matthijs de Ligt's struggles at Juventus held up in comparison.

The highly-rated Netherlands international headed for the exits at Ajax during the summer of 2019, with the Liga giants spending big to acquire his potential.

In the same window, a team-mate for club and country was also lured away from Amsterdam and onto the books of a European superpower.

De Jong has not been spectacular at Barca, but he has been steady and settled quickly in new surroundings while offering plenty of promise when it comes to finding his best role at Camp Nou.

De Ligt, meanwhile, has failed to make the expected impact at Juventus, with the 20-year-old dropping to the bench at times in what remains a steep learning curve for him.

Former Ajax and Barcelona star De Boer told BarcaBlog when offering his assessment of two highly-rated countrymen: "I think De Jong has adapted well to Barca, look De Ligt at Juventus…

"Playing so much for a young player in his first year is something exceptional.

"People say that he has not reached the level he reached at Ajax and the Netherlands, but there are not many who can play in a team as strong as Barcelona and I think he has worked well."

De Boer added on a 23-year-old midfielder that he sees filling the boots of a World Cup-winning Barcelona icon: "I hope he returns to his usual position because he is a distributor of the game.

"He is in charge of passing the ball, you cannot ask him to score 20 goals. He is a player like Sergio Busquets and when the time comes he will be a great substitute for him."

Matthijs de Ligt Juventus 2019-20

While De Jong has maintained his development, De Ligt is considered to have stumbled somewhat.

De Boer admits as much, with the Bianconeri defender still searching for a spark in Serie A.
