| Man injured in Howell mobile home explosion - Livingston Daily Posted: 10 May 2020 08:16 PM PDT  A Howell man was transported to the hospital late Sunday afternoon after a portion of his mobile home exploded. Howell police responded to the explosion in the Howell Estates manufactured housing community around 4:45 p.m The man was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital with burns but is expected to make a full recovery, Howell Police Chief Scott Mannor said. Mannor said the cause of the explosion remains unknown. The Howell Area Fire Department and Livingston County EMS also responded to the incident. Check back for updates. At the age of 18, Rashford started a Europa League game at home to Midtjylland, coming into the starting XI as a late replacement for the injured Anthony Martial. Rashford scored twice in the second half, his first United goal a tidy finish after a cross was cleverly cut back by Juan Mata. "You know, every other goal after that, it's not quite the same as that first goal," Rashford told United's official website. "I just felt grateful, really, to have the opportunity to play for the club and to be able to score goals like the one on my debut." Rashford has since gone on to score 64 goals in 201 appearances for United, and 10 in 38 for England – with goals on his Premier League and international debuts as well. Now 22, he has won the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League during his time at Old Trafford. Asked to pick out his favourite memories of his career so far, he replied: "There's obviously a few moments. I'd say the FA Cup final, when we won it in 2016. That was one of the standout moments, because it was the first trophy. "I actually joined the campaign sort of midway through the FA Cup, so it was nice. I started the season in the Youth Cup and finished it by winning the FA Cup. So it was a nice feeling. "Would Everton [the 2016 FA Cup semi-final] be a special match? Yeah, I'd say so. | Superstar Rajinikanth warns ruling AIADMK against reopening liquor outlets - CNBCTV18 Posted: 10 May 2020 07:31 PM PDT  Superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday warned the ruling AIADMK against reopening state-run liquor outlets in Tamil Nadu, saying if it was done, it should not harbour "dreams" of coming to power again, apparently in next year's Assembly elections. In a tweet, he also asked the government to work out alternate modes of revenue generation. His remarks came a day after Tamil Nadu moved the Supreme Court, seeking a stay against a Madras High Court order directing closure of liquor shops in the state. The AIADMK cannot have "dreams of coming to power again if the government re-opens TASMAC shops at this juncture," the veteran said in the tweet. "Please #Look out for better ways of filling the coffers," he added. The Tamil Nadu government had on Saturday moved the apex court challenging the High Court order for closure of TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation) liquor outlets on grounds of violations of COVID-19 guidelines, arguing that it would lead to "grave losses" in revenue and a complete halt in commercial activities. The Madras High Court had on Friday ordered closure of liquor outlets in the state, noting there were huge crowds and no social distancing was being maintained by tipplers. It, however, allowed doorstep delivery of booze through online mode. The Tamil Nadu government, in its appeal on Saturday, termed the HC order a case of "judicial overreach" and said online sale and home delivery of alcohol were not possible in the entire state. | Wuhan Reports First Coronavirus Case in a Month - Newsweek Posted: 10 May 2020 07:01 PM PDT The Chinese city of Wuhan has seen its first new case of the novel coronavirus in more than a month as China has also reported a spate of new infections in the northeast, after moving to reopen from months of stringent lockdown. Meanwhile, Germany, which has also taken steps to ease lockdown restrictions, has seen its infection rate rise and South Korea has seen a flare up of new cases in Seoul, causing the mayor to shutter bars and nightclubs. As several countries around the world have begun taking steps to ease coronavirus lockdown restrictions after seeing a significant decline in new infections and deaths, states and municipalities across the U.S. have also begun to reopen slowly. But health experts continue to warn of the risk of new outbreaks and a possible second wave of infections that could potentially once again overwhelm hospitals and clinics. On Sunday, Chinese officials reported that the northeastern city of Shulan had 11 new confirmed cases of the novel virus after one woman in a family tested positive on May 7. The city has now implemented restrictive measures, including a ban on non-essential travel, closure of schools, and a lockdown of residential compounds. Additionally, the first new confirmed case of the virus has been reported in Wuhan, where COVID-19 was initially discovered last year. In total, China confirmed 14 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, after more than a week of new daily cases remaining in the single digits.  In Germany, new coronavirus infections have risen after the country eased some of its lockdown restrictions. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), a German federal government agency and research institute, has said that the infection rate is now 1.1, which means each infected person now infects at least one other person. Essentially, if 10 people are infected with the novel coronavirus, the infection rate predicts they would infect an additional 11 people. Germany's infection rate had previously been hovering around 0.7 in mid-April. At that time, Chancellor Angela Merkel warned that an infection rate of 1.1 could overwhelm the country's health care system within months. But the chancellor announced last week that all shops in the country will be allowed to reopen and students will slowly begin returning to school. Football matches will also restart in the coming days. The European nation has also seen its number of new confirmed cases of the virus rise over the past three days. On Thursday, the number of new cases jumped from 947 on Wednesday to more than 1,200. New cases were above 1,200 on Friday and Saturday as well. In South Korea--which has been widely lauded for its quick and successful response to the coronavirus--moved to close bars and clubs in the capital of Seoul after a more than two dozen new cases were connected directly to a 29-year-old man who had visited five different bars and clubs. Health officials have estimated that about 7,200 people visited the nightlife spots, warning of an expected surge in new cases. "Carelessness can lead to an explosion in infections," Seoul mayor Park Won-soon said announcing the indefinite closure of the bars and night clubs. Park also urged those who'd visited the nightlife spots to come forward voluntarily. South Korea experienced its first confirmed case of the coronavirus at the same time as the U.S. at the end of January. But unlike the U.S., where the novel virus spread rapidly throughout the country, South Korea moved quickly to contain the spread through large-scale testing and contact tracing. As of Saturday, South Korea had just less than 11,000 confirmed cases of the novel virus and only 256 deaths. Comparatively, the U.S. has confirmed more than 1.35 million cases and nearly 80,000 deaths. The U.S. continues to average well over 2,000 new cases per day, with a recent high of 3,491 new cases reported last Thursday. While that's a decrease from a peak of more than 11,500 new cases in one day in mid-April, modeling suggests that the daily number could once again rise steadily as lockdown measures are eased throughout the country. President Donald Trump has pushed for the economy to begin reopening, even as health experts have raised concerns about the continued spread of the pandemic nationwide. While some hot spots like New York and California appear to have passed their peak of infections, other states and municipalities are just now seeing new outbreaks of the virus.  "We have to get our country open. We can't keep our country closed," the president said last week. Newsweek has reached out to the White House for additional comment. Meanwhile, health experts and officials have cautioned that parts of the U.S. may need to once again implement lockdown measures in the coming months. At the end of April, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a key member of Trump's coronavirus task force, warned that if lockdown measures were eased too quickly, that could "get us right back in the same boat that we were a few weeks ago." Polling has shown that the majority of Americans are concerned that officials will begin reopening the economy too soon, rather than too late. A poll conducted by the Pew Research Center from April 29 to May 5 showed that nearly 70 percent of Americans are concerned restrictions will be lifted too soon. | 'I'm learning a lot' - Arsenal full-back Tierney hails 'amazing' Arteta - Goal Posted: 10 May 2020 06:18 PM PDT Kieran Tierney has revealed that he has been "learning a lot" from Mikel Arteta while in self-isolation, highlighting the Arsenal manager's "amazing" attention to detail and knowledge of football. Arteta has had a positive impact on the Arsenal squad since succeeding Unai Emery in the Emirates Stadium hot seat back in December. The Gunners haven't suffered a single Premier League defeat in 2020 under the Spaniard, and seemed to be improving with each passing game before the season was called to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic. Unfortunately, Tierney dislocated his shoulder just before Arteta's arrival, and has yet to feature for the Gunners this year. The Scottish defender has struggled for fitness since completing a £25 million ($31m) move to Arsenal from Celtic last summer. He has only started four games for the club to date, but is currently in the process of building his strength back up so that he can make a telling contribution if the campaign resumes. Arteta has been holding regular meetings with his squad online, and Tierney has been encouraged by the Spanish tactician's thorough analysis and understanding of the game. The 22-year-old left-back told Sky Sports: "I've seen all his [Arteta's] video meetings, I've been in the meetings together as a team, before the games, after the games and just his analysis is amazing. "In Dubai, for the winter break I was doing some one-on-one work with him and that's when I realised, 'This is brilliant, I'm learning a lot in a rehab session.' "He knows what's going to happen in a game and how it's going to happen and what you should do, where you're going to get pressed from and where your options should be.

| Pence will not self-quarantine and plans to be at the White House Monday - CNN Posted: 10 May 2020 06:01 PM PDT Pence spokesperson Devin O'Malley said the vice president "will continue to follow the advice of the White House Medical Unit and is not in quarantine." "Additionally, Vice President Pence has tested negative every single day and plans to be at the White House tomorrow," O'Malley said in the statement. The announcement comes as the White House continues to urge governors to begin reopening their states even as the virus has edged closer to the West Wing with news that top members of the coronavirus task force will self-quarantine, in some form, after coming in contact with an individual who tested positive for the virus. An official said there is extreme sensitivity inside the White House at the current state of affairs with officials recognizing the contradiction in telling states to reopen while the White House enhances protocols to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The official said Pence's schedule will probably be on the lighter side in the coming days, but that he's not doing a full self-quarantine. Those steps come after President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that Pence's press secretary, Katie Miller, tested positive for the virus. The President said that Miller has not come into contact with him but noted that she has been in contact with Pence. "She's a wonderful young woman, Katie, she tested very good for a long period of time and then all of a sudden today she tested positive," Trump said during a meeting with Republican members of Congress at the White House.  The news of Miller's positive test has left everyone in the West Wing of the White House genuinely nervous, one White House source previously told CNN. The source said Miller's nature is to communicate in person so she makes lots of in-person contacts during her day-to-day work. The source added that West Wing staffers are concerned because her husband, Trump's senior adviser Stephen Miller, also works in the building and has been inevitably exposed.  Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and US Surgeon General Jerome Adams, however, have both tested negative for the virus, according to government spokespeople. They are not planning to self-quarantine as of now. HHS spokesperson Caitlan Oakley said Azar "will follow the advice of his physicians at the White House Medical Unit." And, a spokesperson for the Surgeon General said, "Surgeon General Adams was last tested for COVID-19 on Friday, May 8, and the results were negative. He was not in contact with anyone who has tested positive and at this time, has had no known exposure to the virus. "Dr. Adams already participates in most meetings and events virtually, and will continue to do so. If the White House Medical Unit recommends any changes in Dr. Adams' practices, he will of course comply." Trump's moodIn conversations this weekend, Trump has expressed concern that aides contracting coronavirus would undercut his message that the outbreak is waning and states should begin reopening, according to a person who spoke to him. Trump voiced frustration that two White House staffers tested positive for coronavirus and has asked why his valets weren't ordered to wear masks before this week, according to the person.  Trump believes an economic rebound will only come when governors decide to lift restrictions and is concerned at any signs the virus is resurgent. At the same time, the President has told people he doesn't want to be near anyone who hasn't been tested and has bristled when coming into contact with some people at the White House, according to the person who spoke to him. | Covid-19: Millions find message of hope in Kiwi's viral poem - RNZ Posted: 10 May 2020 05:02 AM PDT Kiwi-born Welsh poet Tomos Roberts (aka Probably Tomfoolery) has captured the imagination of millions of people around the world with his video The Great Realisation. The fairytale-esque poem details the grim realities of pre-Covid life, such as pollution and over-consumption, before imagining a brighter future once the pandemic is over. Since being posted last week, the video has been viewed more than 30 million times across all platforms, and garnered attention from A-list celebrities including Jake Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore. Roberts told Jim Mora on Sunday Morning that he was currently staying off social media because the response had been so overwhelming. But he said he would check people's comments at some point when things have calmed down. "I feel so grateful to people for taking the time to send them, I feel like the least I can do is try and read them, as I say I'm trying to wait for the right moment." Roberts said before the lockdown he was working as a filmmaker, mainly filming and editing videos for corporate clients for advertisements. When the coronavirus hit that work dried up and Roberts said he began homeschooling his younger brother and sister as his parents and older sister were working in UK hospitals. He said that gave him more free time. "I would write these poems as reflections of how I was feeling in the moment, and then we would make little games of trying to find out which part of the house we could film them in." "What you cannot see just out of shot is a baking tray, which was my attempt at health and safety, with 12 candles inside, which had to be burning very close to my face in order to light my face, which made me incredibly hot - and I've got to say an onlooker would have called me incredibly foolish - but I ploughed on." Roberts said actor Jake Gyllenhaal has asked if he could turn the poem into a children's book, but nothing has been confirmed yet. He said the poem has already been translated into a number of languages such as Arabic and Japanese. "It's really quite mind-blowing to think that somebody else would take the time to do that which makes it accessible to whole other regions and whole other groups of people. "What it is I think is a lot of people subscribing to the same idea, which is one that an optimistic outlook could be a really useful strategy right now." It's very serious and coronavirus will effect a lot of people physically and doctors and scientists are working incredibly hard to try and combat that, Robertson said.
